Arkansas fired John Pelphrey as its basketball coach Sunday, a source told CBSSports.com.

An official announcement is expected soon.

The decision comes three days after CBSSports.com published a picture of Pelphrey posing with two high school juniors in violation of NCAA bylaws. In response to the report, an Arkansas spokesperson said the school would "review" the situation. Athletic director Jeff Long acknowledged he believed the story proved a violation had occurred, but he declined further comment.

Pelphrey just completed his fourth season at Arkansas.

He had a losing SEC record each of the past three seasons.

Missouri's Mike Anderson is expected to be Arkansas' primary target.

He was a 17-year assistant at Arkansas under legendary coach Nolan Richardson.

Like I said this is not the SWC, it is the SEC.
You are right, Arkansas is in the SEC. Probably the worst basketball conference of the major conferences. Why do you think they would have a hard time winning in the SEC if they could do it in the SWC?

Some person said it right, Arkansas is an afterthought in that conference and in basketball.
That is why the change was made. Arkansas hasn't always been an after thought in basketball. In fact in the SEC, only Kentucky has more basketball history than Arkansas.

I pull for Alabama, because they do the right things.  They are physical, play defense, something Petrino knows anything about, and they just play the game the right way.  Alabama has more history in their pinky finger than Arkansas has in their whole body and Arkansas fans get fired up when they are not part of the conversation.
What does football success have to do with firing Pelphrey? Alabama has more FOOTBALL success than Arkansas, but Arkansas is ahead in just about every other sport, basketball included.

Quit crying about it and earn your way to that elite status.
I haven't seen any Razorback fans crying about  this story. Some thought he deserved another year, some thought it was time for him to go. Either way, he is gone and Arkansas can hopefully get back to National prominence in Basketball (or earning elite status as you put it).

Then he goes, they won the Sugar Bowl this year but that was only Arkansas they were playing.  Perfect stating of where Arkansas ranks.  An afterthought.
That's pretty funny, I remember when he made a similar comment about Alabama when they were beaten by Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

I don't get the people that are trying to insult Arkansas fans in this.  Firing a coach that has a losing record in SEC play and a terrible road record after 4 years has nothing to do with 1994 or unrealistic expectations.  He wasn't doing a good enough job and got fired.  The program can get back to prominence if they hire a great coach.  They have missed on their last 2.  Maybe the third time is the charm, maybe it will be another miss.  I appreciate that the AD is proactive (though I think the move should have been made last year if one was going to be made).  Keep trying until you get it right.  What is wrong with that?  If nothing else, the job is much more desirable now than it was following Heath's dismissal.  It is a little easier to compete in the SEC (especially the SEC West) and expectations have been lowered a little.  If the next coach is any good and can keep the recruiting class in tact, he should be able to compete for an NCAA spot and maybe even the SEC as soon as next year.

1994 equals 17 years ago, thats almost two decades.  What have you done lately?  All Arkansas fans live in the past like 1994 in basketball or 1969 in football.  No one cares.

CBSSports is taking an awful lot of credit here: "the decision comes three days after CBSSports.com..."  What a joke.  Pelphrey was on his way out...I guarantee that the very minor, secondary violation of NCAA bylaws didn't have anything to do with his firing.  He was fired because the rich Arkansas alums are the most impatient people in the world.

As for comments like, "this isn't the SWC, it's the SEC"...we won a national title in 1994, AFTER we joined the SEC.

Anderson wont come cheap. Sentiment aside he's doing too well at Mizzou to leave without $$$ incentive.

All I am saying is that Hog fans believe they can snap their fingers and it will go back to the Nolan Richardson days.  Like I said this is not the SWC, it is the SEC.  Some person said it right, Arkansas is an afterthought in that conference and in basketball.  The "Hog Fans" try to compare themselves to the best in the conference and Arkansas is not even close.  I pull for Alabama, because they do the right things.  They are physical, play defense, something Petrino knows anything about, and they just play the game the right way.  Alabama has more history in their pinky finger than Arkansas has in their whole body and Arkansas fans get fired up when they are not part of the conversation.  Quit crying about it and earn your way to that elite status.  Jim Rome said the funniest thing about a week ago.  He was talking about Ohio State and how they get crused by SEC schools in bowl games.  Then he goes, they won the Sugar Bowl this year but that was only Arkansas they were playing.  Perfect stating of where Arkansas ranks.  An afterthought.

The Arkansas brass got what they deserved.  They never should have fired Stan Heath.

Bring Back Nolan Richardson!

Nolan can ignite the fan base, pack the arena and win big with 40 minutes of hell, part II!  He'll be wanting big money and benefits, but he'll be worth it.
