UT AD wavers on future of Pearl

DAYTON, Ohio -- Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton publicly wavered for the first time Wednesday when asked about Bruce Pearl's future as the head coach of the Vols basketball program.

"We don’t know the answer today,” Hamilton told a Knoxville radio station. "We’ve done a lot of soul searching about the direction of our program and we’ll continue to do that and we’ll decide after we’re out of the NCAA Tournament what direction it is that we’re going to go next. We’re not going to finish our evaluation until after the season is over."

Hamilton's comments are the first real sign that Tennessee might be prepared to remove Pearl shortly after the conclusion of this season because of recruiting violations that have brought sanctions and bad publicity to the school. He had previously suggested Pearl would continue as coach even if the NCAA levies additional penalties because he didn't view Pearl's transgressions as firable offenses, but clearly things have changed. Asked if Pearl is bothered by the fact that he's working without a contract, Hamilton said, "I’m sure he is.  Absolutely.  But he had a chance to have had a contract back in November and December and we just never got to the finish line. Now we’ve got to the point where we don’t feel like we can do that."

Tennessee plays Michigan in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.

UT AD wavers on future of Pearl

What changed over the past couple weeks to prompt this?  The guy lied to the university and the NCAA and he didn't lose his job.  Is it just because they are not a top seed that his job is finally in jeopardy?  Pearl and Hamilton both need to go.

UT AD wavers on future of Pearl

Nearly all fans of TN are ready for Hamilton to go.. As a TN fan, myself, I would rather see Hamilton go then anyone.. It is long overdue for a new AD and I totally agree that his PR needs a new job because this should have been answered with "no comment" at this time..  He has blown it too many times and needs to go..

UT AD wavers on future of Pearl

All you folks all over the country can say what you want. But I live 5 minutes from UT. I bleed Orange. My kids bleed Orange. This Bruce Pearl thing hurts worst than Lane Kiffin. WAY WORSE. We all love Pearl. He is an ambasador. He has done wonders and raised the bar tremendously for UT.

Mike Hamiliton committed a worse sin this week by publically undermining his own team. He said" When we exit the tournament" and publicaaly undermining the coach of these kids. Jay Bilas just said it right on National TV. Is this guy an idiot? Who is coaching the AD on public relations?

If Pearl goes, then Hamiliton goes. Until Hamilton is gone, I will not sit in Neyland or Thompson Boling. Condredge Holloway is my pick for next TN AD.

You can lie, cheat, and even break rules and if I feel you are truly sorry or just made a mistake, I can live with it. But to undercut your own program at a critical time and hang 15 young men out on a limb like Hamilton did, speaks volumes. Unforgivable. Get rid of him.

And, I would take Pearl back in a second. Even if we had to wait a year. Just like I would my brother, my son, or my father. Family is Family. But traitors are traitors. More harm was done this week to the program than any other event in the last 4 years. Counting Fulmer's dumping.

UT AD wavers on future of Pearl

Bruce Pearl still hasn't paid for the middle of night phone call he taped when he called Deon Thomas years ago!!!!!  And he's still cheating!  Time for the NCAA to stop enabling him.

LOL, I remember when Bruce Pearl was given this job and I was on here railing about how much of a cheater the guy was and how eventually it would catch up to him.  Much the same way I talk about Calipari now.  All the Tennessee fans were going nuts saying how great he was and how he didn't cheat.   HMMMMMM!  It looks like I was right on that one.  I wonder how long before Calipari's indiscretions catch up with him.

The timing of Hamilton's comments are curious.  Why come out with this 2 days before their NCAA tournament game? This is a case of CYA by this spineless AD.

Pearl is going to be let go, but Hamilton should get the axe as well.  He is responsiblble for hiring the worst coach in Tennssee football history, Lane Kiffin.  That's enough to fire him as well. Good riddance.

Wow, you are delusional.  Many Universities make small violations and they self report.  Pearl has made huge violations, and repeated them days after he got caught the first time.

You rationalizing and making excuses is rediculous, and makes you your team and your state look bad.

He's a gonner,.  Should have been gone several yrs ago.   At least I won't have to watch him try to sneak around our coaches to try to chat up our recruits like he did at Allen Fieldhouse several yrs ago.  I saw him, no doubt about it.  He acts like a scumbag IMHO.
