Irving entering NBA Draft after one season

Duke freshman Kyrie Irving will enter the NBA Draft and forgo his final three years of college, coach Mike Krzyzewski announced Wednesday.

"Our whole program is overjoyed with having Kyrie here for one year and that he has the chance now to pursue a dream of being a high draft pick and a great player in the NBA,” Krzyzewski said. “We are totally supportive of Kyrie, his family and his decision. We look forward to continuing to work with him during the upcoming months leading to his entry into the NBA and afterwards while he is an NBA player.  He is a great young man, a terrific student, and a truly amazing representative for our program and for Duke.  We love him and are very happy for him and his family.”

Irving averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per game this season.

The point guard only appeared in 11 games because of an injured toe.

He's projected by some to be the No. 1 overall pick in June's NBA Draft.

Chicagos fan....The worst team has won the lottery in the NBA like once over the last 10 years. To assume the Cavs will have the # 1 pick makes very little sense. If Washington gets the # 1 pick they will take Enes Kanter, you watch.

If the predictions hold true then the Cavs have added a talented kid who played 11 games.  It depends on what he does this summer let's hope it includes plenty of multi games weekly because the Cavs will throw him out there day one.

Will be a greater day if our guys decide to come back. They actually need the seasoning. Case in point: John Henson's progress this year. He will progress as much next year physically, and should mature mentally (a la the cheese maturing commercial) to where he can handle the pro life. Otherwise, he will languish on a bench somewhere and become relevant four years from now. And I would bet his three year contract as a #3 pick next year will pay more than four years as a #9 pick.

It will be as long as Zeller, Barnes, and Henson come back.  I'm more worried about losing Barnes and Zeller because as far as I'm concerned Henson is nowhere near being ready to be a pro.  He'll sit on the bench longer than Brandon Wright has.

too bad Irving didn't stick around for another year...he and Rivers would have made up an unbelieveable backcourt, but Duke fans pretty much expected this...especially when he will most likely be the 1st or 2nd player taken in the NBA draft.....looks like the Devils will be a young, rebuilding team next year with Miles Plumlee being the only Senior on the team...they will be OK in the hands of the best coach in college basketball, but unfortunately the Heels will be the team to beat next year if Henson, Zeller and Barnes stay

Brama: Number one, there is an age limit, thus the flood of one and dones in the first pace. Number 2, what does the scholarship have to do with anything? You realize that athletic scholarships are actually for one year with the school having the option to renew it each year if they choose to do so, right? If the school isn't required to guarantee 4 years of scholarship, why should student athletes have to guarantee they'll stick around for four years?
