The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

The annual John-Calipari-to-the-NBA reports are officially underway.

(What took so long?)

Peter Vecsey's column in the New York Post on Friday is headlined "Kentucky coach may be on Knicks' radar." There's nothing concrete about the headline and really no substance to the report. It's mostly just speculation rooted in the speculation of a person Vecsey describes as a team executive "who knows a thing or two about a thing or two regarding goings-on behind the screens," which is a cute way of saying "I'm gonna toss this against the wall, and, at some point, we'll see if it sticks."

So will it stick?

Honestly, who knows?

What I can tell you, though, is that this is not the first time I've heard a Calipari-Knicks rumor. One was brought to me before the Final Four, for what it's worth, but it's difficult to separate fact from fiction with this stuff, especially when the Knicks are still playing with a coach still under contract. In other words, we'll have to wait and see where this goes, then see what happens next. But similar to how I stated that Calipari would've left Kentucky last year for the opportunity to coach LeBron James, I have no doubt Calipari would leave Kentucky this year for the opportunity to coach Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony (and perhaps Chris Paul) with the Knicks.

Will Calipari get that opportunity?

Again, who knows?

But the annual speculation is something UK fans will never be able to avoid.

dont forget X henry who signed with memphis and then backed out to play for kansas.  Cal isnt a NBA  coach he has no control over players or higher management.. jsut go back to his coaching the nets days.. it was a freaking nightmare for him.. plus cal has a hugh ego to up hold.. and he basically runs university and the state of kentucky.. he is God in the blue grass.. his not going anywhere.. so leave it at that

Hilarious, who even cares about these two guys?  It's like saying Calipari would move to New York because someone has a free hamburger for him.

Um...I'm pretty sure the reason people are talking about coach cal and his "legacy" here and not about other sketchy coaches is because these are comments on an article about coach cal. Go back to reading and not posting, it suits you better, clown. Also, while you can talk till you're blue in the face about how cal wasn't "convicted" of anything, the truth remains that he set both his previous programs back years because of what happened on his watch. Only a fool believes that these coaches don't micro-manage their players and assistant coaches. It is precisely why they exell at the college level but not at the pros; In the pros, they lose the control over the players. This is why it is foolhardy to think that a coach like calipari (or Williams or Calhoun, etc) don't know what is going on behind the scenes. It's a riot when blind fans like catintn come on here and tell people that they know nothing about the sport they are posting about when it is so obvious that it's the catintn's of the world whose knowledge is lacking.

Willroast you sir are an idiot!!!!! Cal has never been convicted of anything!!!! Why is nobody mentioning Roy Williams getting Kansas put on probation when he left for UNC??? Or what about Lute Olson at Arizona, Jim Calhoun at UConn-who has to serve a 3 game suspension starting next season for paying a recruit? Why dont you idiots mention those guys instead of always spewing this garbage every stinkin day? Why dont you all find a hobby or something or do a little bit of research on a subject before you attack something that you dont have a clue about!!!! I hear knitting is a nice calming hobby, try that-you sure dont have a clue about basketball!!!! And for the record, Cal is not goin anywhere but another Final 4 next season, he is not leaving with one of the greatest recruiting classes in history coming in next season. So Parrish why dont you find another tree to bark up, you dont know half as much as you think you do!!!! Cal's NOT GOIN ANYWHERE!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

Kentucky is not my number one team or even my number two, but for years I have been a fan just because I love basketball. And the saddest thing for me is that I can't in good conscious support anything with John Calipari's greasy fingers on it. I wish more Kentucky fans would support what is great about their team without trying to defend what is bad. The players are incredible, the coach is incredibly disgusting. I really hope that he doesn't leave Kentucky in shambles the way that he has every other team he has touched because neither the players nor the fans deserve that. But defending this coach is not something you have to do. He has twice been a scumbag in every possible way to his programs (and already tried to pull a fast one at Kentucky with that kid from overseas that he tried to bring in this year), and the second most important thing in the Kentucky nation's mind (after making a run for the gold) should be that John Calipari doesn't do to Kentucky what he has perfected with his last two jobs; Getting off scot free at the expense of his program.

Cal may not leave for the NBA this year, but it wont be because he doesn't want too or that he doesnt want to leave a recruiting class. First NBA job offered that he thinks is worth taking and he is GONE....

The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

I get what you're saying Dustinm about using the leverage. But Calipari has already stated this week as a matter of fact that he wasn't interested in the NBA and wasn't going anywhere. Even Dickie V. was tweeting out today that he'd spoken with Cal and he wasn't leaving. So it's probably just wishful thinking by UL fans. Tongue out
