The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

The annual John-Calipari-to-the-NBA reports are officially underway.

(What took so long?)

Peter Vecsey's column in the New York Post on Friday is headlined "Kentucky coach may be on Knicks' radar." There's nothing concrete about the headline and really no substance to the report. It's mostly just speculation rooted in the speculation of a person Vecsey describes as a team executive "who knows a thing or two about a thing or two regarding goings-on behind the screens," which is a cute way of saying "I'm gonna toss this against the wall, and, at some point, we'll see if it sticks."

So will it stick?

Honestly, who knows?

What I can tell you, though, is that this is not the first time I've heard a Calipari-Knicks rumor. One was brought to me before the Final Four, for what it's worth, but it's difficult to separate fact from fiction with this stuff, especially when the Knicks are still playing with a coach still under contract. In other words, we'll have to wait and see where this goes, then see what happens next. But similar to how I stated that Calipari would've left Kentucky last year for the opportunity to coach LeBron James, I have no doubt Calipari would leave Kentucky this year for the opportunity to coach Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony (and perhaps Chris Paul) with the Knicks.

Will Calipari get that opportunity?

Again, who knows?

But the annual speculation is something UK fans will never be able to avoid.

The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

Do you know him(Coach Cal) personally? For a man to talk about someone they dont even know personally and dog him is really immature to me.

Its funny you ask that question of Mr Parrish because he does know Calipari personally. Parrish was the beat writer for Memphis for years while Calipari was the coach at Memphis. Parrish traveled with the team and spent lots of behind the scenes time with Calipari. There is no sportswriter in the country that knows Calipari better than Parrish. If he says there is no doubt then you can BANK ON IT.

You have no doubt? You can't back that complete lack of doubt up with any real facts. The knicks haven't won anything of note for 35 years. If fans acknowledge that it's possible Cal could decide to go to the NBA at some point will the media acknowledge the fact that Cal's camp leaves the door open or even leaks word that he would be interested in an NBA job is something he would do whether he's interested or not? It's called leverage. Putting yourself in the best position to get what you want from the administration is a real reason to not squash the NBA rumors (he couldn't squash them with the media anyway, no matter what he said).

All coaches probably do things they shouldnt do...and I am sure you are not a saint. We are all human...I know everyone has an opinion...but really...grow up!! Can you coach or play ball? I doubt it. LOL..GO BIG BLUE!!

Cal cannot handle coaching at the NBA level.  A little review of what happened behind the scenes by many accounts is that when things started going bad for the Nets, Cal thought mgmt was listening in to his practices and conversations, and Rod Thorn and company were conspiring to oust him.  In addition, he didn't relate the same to the players as in college. If Cal goes back to the NBA, I predict it will be a disaster just like the HardCard going back to coach the Celts.  If he does go, I recommend he doesn't take on too many of his marginal UK players to his roster - we already saw what happened to the Celts! Ouch!  BTW, 13 years and counting BBN! Ouch!

Agreed UKfan68.....but it gets old listening to the ignorant ones post about something they have absolutely no knowledge about. All they CAN do is spread rumors and slam.....that's their only defense.

Yeah but that's what they do. It's all about jealousy, fear, and twelve year old mentalities. The ones that post that crap are either jealous since he's not at their school recruiting the top players or they're afraid of him building a team at Kentucky that their team can't beat, or their balls haven't dropped out of their stomachs yet.

Did you read the one UNC fan that's commented on this thread yet? I didn't get that out of him. Why? because he's a UNC FAN! They have a great tradition there and great coach that recruits great players that can compete with the Kentucky's, Kansas and Dukes. So why be jealous or afraid of anyone if you know that on any given night your team can beat anybody in the Country.

Cousins had yet to sign with Memphis.
Wall had yet to sign with anybody.
Bledsoe was supposedly signing with Memphis, but hadn't.
Darnell Dodson HAD signed with Memphis, played 1 year at Kentucky, then was booted from the team.

So, I assume you are talking about Darnell Dodson when you say that Coach Cal took his RECRUIT with him from Memphis to Kentucky.
Yeah but everybody knows those kids where following Calipari and had he stayed at Memphis they would have played for him there. And he was recruiting on Memphis dime.

Sound about right?

So, if he goes to the Knicks, does he get to take his recruits with him this time, too, like he did when leaving Memphis and going to UK? If so, I'm putting money on some Knicks games next year, barring a lockout, of course.
