The annual John-Calipari-to-the-NBA reports are officially underway.

(What took so long?)

Peter Vecsey's column in the New York Post on Friday is headlined "Kentucky coach may be on Knicks' radar." There's nothing concrete about the headline and really no substance to the report. It's mostly just speculation rooted in the speculation of a person Vecsey describes as a team executive "who knows a thing or two about a thing or two regarding goings-on behind the screens," which is a cute way of saying "I'm gonna toss this against the wall, and, at some point, we'll see if it sticks."

So will it stick?

Honestly, who knows?

What I can tell you, though, is that this is not the first time I've heard a Calipari-Knicks rumor. One was brought to me before the Final Four, for what it's worth, but it's difficult to separate fact from fiction with this stuff, especially when the Knicks are still playing with a coach still under contract. In other words, we'll have to wait and see where this goes, then see what happens next. But similar to how I stated that Calipari would've left Kentucky last year for the opportunity to coach LeBron James, I have no doubt Calipari would leave Kentucky this year for the opportunity to coach Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony (and perhaps Chris Paul) with the Knicks.

Will Calipari get that opportunity?

Again, who knows?

But the annual speculation is something UK fans will never be able to avoid.

The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

Ah hell smith let em think whatever makes em happy and let's em sleep at night....I'm tired of arguing with these idiots. But this time the rumor was started by UL fans a couple weeks ago on the card chronicle or something to that effect....wishful thinking I suppose? lol.
But Calipari isn't going anywhere. He's got his dream job. The one he wanted. When he takes that UK jacket off it'll be for retirement and for a beach somewhere to prop his feet up. Until then he's here to stay.

The only thing the NBA can offer him now is more money and he's already got enough of that. Besides Cal's not in his twenties or thirties just starting his career this ain't his first rodeo...He's been in the NBA before and knows what it's all about. The man is 52 years old i'm sure he doesn't want to deal with the NBA schedule and baby sit those egg heads.

Not when he can sit back and do what he does best and that's recruit kids that he has control over and has to play his style of basketball. Just like Pitino. He's a great college coach but not so much in the NBA. Because he's one of those on your ass in your face kind of coaches like Cal is and that don't work in the league.

I read a story a few days ago about when he was coaching for the Nets and Michael Jordan running by the Net's bench and asking those guys why they took that crap off of him and how they didn't have to put up with him....that works in college but not in the pro's. Not with guys that have the stage and it's all about them and have more of everything including money than you do....unless you're Phil Jackson or Pat Riley.....Cal would be crazy to go back to that. Plus they fired him at the Nets so there's no guarantee he wouldn't take a job and be fired in a couple of years like before....

That makes alot of sense...let's see sign a deal with the Knicks(because Pat Riley will not hire him to coach Miami forget that)for say eight million a year...that's sixteen million....well he makes four million a year at Kentucky and his contract is already out to 2015 or something like that...so that's roughly 24 million. And Barnhart wants to extend it now. So what idiot gives up UK to go to the NBA?

Oh yeah....lmao. Forgot about ricky three pumps for a second...still it'd be a stupid ass move if he did. He's found his niche` and is doing what he does best and even has the stage now that he wanted.

So, if he goes to the Knicks, does he get to take his recruits with him this time, too, like he did when leaving Memphis and going to UK? If so, I'm putting money on some Knicks games next year, barring a lockout, of course.

The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

Look, there are NBA coaches that excell in the NBA, just as there are College coaches that are excel in the NCAA. Very FEW if any excel in both. Great College coaches include Coach K, Calipari, Pitino, Donavan, amoung many others. NBA coaches who could never make it in NCAA are Riley & a whole bunch more. Pitino/Calipari have both proven then can't do both! Why did Coach K turn down the Lakers? Because he is smart! Stick with what makes you sucessful. The Money is not much different. Therefore Calipari, not being stupid, will stay ay UK as long as possible. I would think you writers could find some positive articles to write about, instead of filling space with garbage.

How true is that. Calipari, in college can attempt to buy a championship  by bringing in all those "one and done".

How did he attempt to buy a championship? By recruiting 5 star players? The same players being recruited by Coach K, Roy WIlliams, Bill Self, etc,....etc.....etc......These kids, according to the NBA, HAD to play a year of ball. And it is FACT that Coach Cal was NOT the only coach recruiting them. Do you call Coach K a One and Done coach for recruiting Irving? How about Roy Williams for all of HIS freshman that have "one and done".

Fact is, prior to last year, Coach Cal had three One and Dones EVER. Even last year, ONLY Wall and Cousins were considered One and Dones. Bledsoe had a great year, and his family needed the money. The NBA told him he would go first round....so he went....to take care of his family. Orton was the only one that went against the advice.

Long story short....get your facts straight before posting.

Coach Cal was a failure once before in the NBA...Nobody in the NBA wants that again...he is known as a great recruiter, but terrible bench coach...he won't be able to cheat or get the better players in the NBA to come to his team and that's why he failed before....Kentucky is the perfect fit for Coach Cal....he took them to their first Final Four in over 13 years and they don't really care how he does it...just like UMass and Memphis this Final Four at UK will be vacated in a few years...

Nobody in the NBA wants that again...

Obviously someone is interested, which proves your comment wrong.

but terrible bench coach

That managed to beat the #1 overall seed, and a VERY hot UNC team to earn a birth in the Final Four.....uh huh, that's REALLY terrible.

he won't be able to cheat

When has he ever cheated before? Never, and that's fact.

just like UMass and Memphis this Final Four at UK will be vacated in a few years...

There is ABSOLUTELY zero correlation between Memphis, UMass and this Final Four. The NCAA investigated and cleared Coach Cal....that's fact. The Final Fours were vacated for "illegal players". Camby accepted gifts behind Cal's back. The NCAA cleared Rose TWICE, then declared him ineligible. THIS Kentuckty Final Four WILL stand. That's FACT.

They say that ignorance is bliss......and if that is so, then almost all of the negative posters on here must be as blissful as anyone could ever be.

Cool.  So this is a "non-story" twice removed?  You actually created an "original" article out of speculation that was inspired by another article that you yourself, mock, and say was purely speculation.  And then you essentially say that this topic is nothing new?

And then!  You were able to offer so much new knowledge to the conversation that you only had to say "Who knows?"  Twice.  Plus this amazing bit of investigatie journalism:  "We'll have to see where this goes, then see what happens next."  (WOW!  Thanks Gary.)

C'mon...  Just write the article you've always wanted to write:  I Have a Man Crush On John Calipari

I love the hate!!!  I'm sure that all those below who are critical of Cal would *never* want their school to recruit Anthony Davis or Michael Gilchrist or Marques Teagues or John Wall or Demarcus Cousins or...  Well, I'm sure I'll run out of space at some point.  You recruit the best talent you possibly can.  Do people really believe that Brad Stevens wouldn't prefer to upgrade his talent?  And if you don't believe he would then you probably also believe "riddance" is spelled "ridense."
