The annual Calipari-to-NBA rumors are here

The annual John-Calipari-to-the-NBA reports are officially underway.

(What took so long?)

Peter Vecsey's column in the New York Post on Friday is headlined "Kentucky coach may be on Knicks' radar." There's nothing concrete about the headline and really no substance to the report. It's mostly just speculation rooted in the speculation of a person Vecsey describes as a team executive "who knows a thing or two about a thing or two regarding goings-on behind the screens," which is a cute way of saying "I'm gonna toss this against the wall, and, at some point, we'll see if it sticks."

So will it stick?

Honestly, who knows?

What I can tell you, though, is that this is not the first time I've heard a Calipari-Knicks rumor. One was brought to me before the Final Four, for what it's worth, but it's difficult to separate fact from fiction with this stuff, especially when the Knicks are still playing with a coach still under contract. In other words, we'll have to wait and see where this goes, then see what happens next. But similar to how I stated that Calipari would've left Kentucky last year for the opportunity to coach LeBron James, I have no doubt Calipari would leave Kentucky this year for the opportunity to coach Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony (and perhaps Chris Paul) with the Knicks.

Will Calipari get that opportunity?

Again, who knows?

But the annual speculation is something UK fans will never be able to avoid.

It would be great for Cousins if he somehow could find his way to the Knicks!

How true is that. Calipari, in college can attempt to buy a championship  by bringing in all those "one and done". Of course he has failed time and time again. Good Luck NY if the rumors are true. Calipari is a over hyped coach who has done nothing with a whole lot of talent.

Good ridense. Calipari is a over hyped coach who has failed time and time again. For the past 3 years he and his program has tried to buy a championship, bringing in "one and dones" each year and has nothing to show for it. Good Luck NY if the rumors are true. College doesn't need him anyway. You can have him.....

Good ridense. Calipari is a over hyped coach who has done litterally nothing. Hell for the past 3 years he and his program has tried to buy a championship but at the end has come up short. All that talent and not much to show for it. Look out NY if the rumors are true.

Why would he go to the NBA?  Players have a salary cap there...

While I absolutely dispise the recruitment of 1 & Doners, I must admit that Calipari actually has some good rythm going.  I think his demeanor would match that of the NBA players but I think he really has found a niche at UK.  He seems to be a good fit and despite being a huge UNC fan I would like to see him stay.  I find it amazing that he remains competitive after consistently 4 players a year to the NBA.  He seems to pull in 4 more for the next year and remain competitive.  Do I believe that he promises these guys NBA sucess....IDK but I have my theories.
That being said, I do like the thought of a NCAA system where scholarships are based on 2 or 4 year terms.  Meaning if you recruit a player and give them a scholorship that the scholorship is tied up for 2 yrs minimum but potentially 4 years.  2 years would probably be best since I have no quams with 2 or 3rd year players leaving.  At the same time I aplaud ANY college player that passes up Millions to return to school.  I couldnt do it.

He basically coaches NBA players every year anyway. Most of these guys are one and doners and that's it. He might as well coach pro. I just wonder how spread out fo the one and doners will be when all of that is over.

It's a matter of time when Kentucky goes on probation just like his other teams did after he left. (Can't Wait)
