Report: Maryland AD to meet with Arizona's Miller

Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson is expected to soon meet with Arizona's Sean Miller about succeeding Gary Williams as the Terrapins' basketball coach, the Washington Post reported Friday. The paper added that there is "mutual interest" between the two sides.

Miller just finished his second season at Arizona by winning the Pac-10 and taking the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. He's losing Derrick Williams from that roster but should still have a team talented enough to be ranked in the preseason Top 25, which might make it tough to leave now. Still, the Maryland job is too good to ignore -- especially for a Pittsburgh native and former ACC assistant. So Miller will listen and consider coaching at a third school in a span of four years. He was at Xavier before moving to Arizona.

Notre Dame's Mike Brey is another serious candidate for the Maryland job.

According to sources, Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon and Villanova's Jay Wright are likely uninterested.

Williams retired Thursday after 22 seasons at the school.

He led Maryland to 14 NCAA tournaments and the 2002 national championship.

Tell that to Memphis who had the #1 recruiting class and Calipari bolted for Kentucky.

You are right ... Miller does care about family except his family ties are in Pittsburgh not Tucson.

Besides ... Arizona is NOT top 10 ... especially without all world Derrick Williams who only fell in his lap when Floyd got the ax from USC.

Just telling it like it is.
<<<<<<<<<
;<<<< DISGRUNTLED UCLA FAN....hahahahahahaha

Williams may have fallen in his lap there, blue, but he was a shell of a player as a freshman and don't you think Miller and company had some say in his development?  Jeez, man, are you seriously in denial that much that you can't get a guy credit when it's due???

Btw, Miller wouldn't even leave Arizona for Pitt.  That shows you where his ties are, my friend.

Arizona is on the way to conference domination once again!  Sit back and enjoy the show, Bruin!

AZCatsrBest:
"he man has integrity and class. Something very hard to find in your area of the country!"
That has to be one of the most homer statements I've ever seen - and a pure laugh!
Guess What?  When Classy Coach Miller signs with us, we'll have at least one man with integrity and class to sit alongside our former coach who had class and integrity! lmssao

LMFAO Irony....speaking of irony  >>>NOT

Guess what, when Miller signs with you, let me know.  I'll send you a UA jersey.
Pompous easterners abound.

It's as though everyone assumed he would take this job because, well, it's on the east coast and he can recruit the hotbed of DC....big freakin deal.  He recruits that area at Arizona....oh and NY, PA, etc, too, so tell me how recruiting (in this day and age) would be better at MD????

And, not to mention this VAST western area that he has virtual control over.  Seattle, LA, AZ, as well as the pipeline in TX.  I think he's just fine with his recruiting areas, thank you very much.

Miller knows what he's got here at Arizona and he's chomping at the bit to continue this process.

Thank God he stayed because he's a classy guy and I'd hate to see him stained by this whole process.  I sure don't blame him for exploring it, though.  Who in their right mind wouldn't?

Report: Maryland AD to meet with Arizona's Miller

Sorry 'Zona fans.  We'll make it quick and painless.  He'll be signed by Monday.

Didn't even take THAT long.  Miller was signed by Sunday.  Too bad for you it was an extension to his ARIZONA contract.  Looks like all those $Millions from the Pac-12 TV contract and network plans made a bigger impression than Maryland ever could.

If Maryland were smart, they'd go after Shaka Smart.  Up and coming coach from a lower tier school taking his team to the Final Four.  But, alas, they go with Turgeon from A&M.  Expect about 24-25 wins and 10-11 losses, at-large NCAA bids, and second round exits.

Hey jogabonito....you were right.  He was signed by Monday!
HAHA to even think MD is in the class with UA right now is laughable.  I'm not saying its a bad job but Miller is top dog out west and now with a new tv rights deal, the exposure is going to be tenfold.

Put down the beer goggles and go hire an up and coming coach to help you get back to relevance.   You can't sit at the grown up table, just yet!!!

jnb5:  Again, talking about the PAST.  The future of the Pac-12 includes the nations largest TV contract with ESPN and FOX, and plans for the Pac-12 Network.  There will be PLENTY of exposure nationwide now.

AND that happened to play a role in Miller's staying put.  He knows he's part of a rising conference.

It's all over Sean Miller turned down the Maryland job and will sign a extension to Arizona so to all you Maryland fans that really tried to talk all that trash to us Arizona fans, you guys are shit out of luck. It seems like Miller just wanted to sweetened his deal with Arizona and he just did that. Really to turn down a great program like Arizona for lowly Maryland does not make sense at all and Miller know that by far.

Bear Down Arizona!!!!!!!Smile
