Sean Miller is expected to meet with Maryland officials later today and, formally or informally, be offered the opportunity to succeed Gary Williams as the Terrapins' basketball coach, a source has told CBSSports.com. The source added that any report suggesting Miller has already accepted the Maryland job is "premature."

Miller just finished his second season at Arizona by winning the Pac-10 and taking the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. He's losing Derrick Williams from that roster but would still have a team talented enough to be ranked in the preseason Top 25 if he stayed at Arizona. Still, the Maryland job is too good to ignore -- especially for a Pittsburgh native and former ACC assistant whose family reportedly wouldn't mind returning East. So that's why Miller agreed to meet with Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson, and it's why most believe he's leaning toward accepting the job before the end of the weekend barring an unexpected development. In that case, Arizona would be looking for its fifth coach in sixth years and the usual candidates -- among them Memphis' Josh Pastner, an Arizona graduate -- would probably at least be approached in some form.

Williams retired from Maryland after 22 seasons last Thursday.

I would be surprised if Miller bolts Arizona for Maryland.  He has recruited a great cast for the Wildcats and it would be a shame to not follow through with his first recruiting class.  Arizona is not a stepping stone program.  Miller did play his hoops at Pitt and with family back east would probably be the only reason to consider Maryland.

Tubby Smith? Bwahahaha, what a joke. He's lucky he hasn't gotten fired yet in Minnesota. He is a lazy recruiter, and you're going to replace a coach who got tired, gave up on the rigors of recruiting for another old man who can't recruit?

Maryland will always be secondary to GU, thats like comparing Doyell to Peter King.

It's kind of hard to believe any of these rumors.  Parrish here is saying that Sean Miller is the guy while I just read a rumor that Tubby Smith may bolt Minnesota if offered the job.  To put a cap on it, there is a BIG difference between Sean Miller and Tubby Smith, yet both guys are being linked to the Maryland job.  What we can learn from that is we should just sit back and let the process play itself out.

It's called leverage Parrish.  Miller isn't going anywhere.  He has an agent telling him to see the offer, talk to AD for Maryland, and then we will go back to UA's AD and get a better deal for your assistants.  C'mon man, he's a hot name right now, and is using it to his advantage.

Not a college basketball expert, but I always thought Arizona would be good gig. PAC-10 is wide open with the opportunity for Arizona to be a perennial winner. Maybe he has roots there and they're throwing money at him, but why is the Maryland job such a great gig? Looks like a parallel move, if that. Maryland will always be behind Duke and UNC.
