Notre Dame won at home.

Massachusetts won on the road.

Here's Friday morning's edition of What You Need To Know.

Notable game from Thursday: Notre Dame remained in what is essentially a four-way tie atop the Big East standings with an 82-70 win over Pittsburgh that featured another big effort from bigman Luke Harangody. The 6-foot-8 post player made 8-of-19 shots to finish with 23 points and 12 rebounds while leading the Irish to their 35th consecutive home win.

Notable performance from Thursday: Etienne Brower made 8-of-10 shots -- including 5-of-7 3-pointers -- to finish with 26 points and eight rebounds in the Minutemen's 98-91 victoy at Rhode Island. It was a bubble-preserving win for UMass, which improved to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in the Atlantic 10. Brower has now scored in double-figures in eight consecutive outings.

Notable game event scheduled for Friday: Indiana is supposed to hold a press conference to announce a resolution to the mess formally known as Kelvin Sampson's career. Unless athletic director Rick Greenspan caves under the pressure of a possible player revolt he will announce that Sampson will be suspended or terminated before Saturday's game at Northwestern because of the alleged rules violations detailed in an NCAA report last week.

you need to know about the irish

thanks for the love Gary, you've been loving us for awhile (unlike many other writers who still don't respect a 20-5, 10-3 big east team)

huge win against a tough opponent.  only 2 more at home to complete a 2nd STRAIGHT undefeated home slate.

regarding the four way tie in the big east, i have to give the nod to uconn, mainly because of their easy schedule down the stretch.  l'ville plays both GTown and ND, Uconn plays hardly nobody down the stretch.

Kelvin, we hardly knew ye

The first shoe has dropped -- Kelvin Sampson is suspended until the end of the season.

The other shoe will fall at the end of the season, after Indiana University has all its ducks in a row and hopefully has crafted an airtight, ironclad agreement for Kelvin to take his contract, fold it into four sharp corners and stick it where the sun don't shine.

What You Need To Know

Indiana would have already fired him but they don't want to have happen to them what happened to Ohio State with Jim O'Brien...I bet they suspend him until the hearing with the NCAA and then dump him after it.

What You Need To Know

I think that Sampson should be fired. Just because the players say they will quiet doesn't mean they actually will. They risk losing their scholarship, do u think that is worth one cheating low-down coach?
