RALEIGH, N.C. -- Congratulations, Kentucky Wildcats.

You will be included in the next Projecting the Field when I update late Sunday/early Monday, and let me go ahead and apologize for being among the last to come around and reward you for your turnaround. I doubted you for a while because I couldn't get past how terrible you were in November, December and early January. Then you got better. But I still doubted you because your best player (Patrick Patterson) went down with a season-ending injury. That was reasonable of me, I think. But even if you disagree it doesn't matter anymore, because the way you've responded minus Patterson has been convincing enough to ensure we are now in total agreement, that playing Tennessee tight before winning at South Carolina and beating Florida to improve to 18-11 overall and -- this is the important part -- 12-4 in the SEC is sufficient for inclusion to the NCAA tournament.

Honestly, I'm not sure how you got this thing turned around.

But make no mistake, you got this thing turned around.

So congratulations, Kentucky Wildcats.

Ashley Judd should be proud.

Doubting Kentucky can make a man look stupid

Whatever. I could care less what you think. Calling you out for being a homer was still right on target.  ...I can only laugh at you you whiner. Not only did I predict for you to win today but I also congradulated UK. Hate me all you just makes me laugh at you for being a crybaby.

You're one of the biggest fools around here.

You know what a "homer"is?  A fan that wears blinders and thinks his team is going to win when they cannot possibly.  Since we went 11 for 13 during the period I made the prediction that we would claw our way back to the top ... looks like I was more right than you were.

So you predicted we would win?  ha ha guess that makes you a bandwagoner too

Sorry I hurt your feelings (name calling starts ...) but you're a complete fool and YES you DO look STUPID

Thanks for playing.

Doubting Kentucky can make a man look stupid

First of all, I want to commend King for coming here and manning up. Yeah you talked some smack after the Vandy loss, but you also are willing to come out and eat your humble pie - unlike a lot of other sniveling miserable bittermen posters.

Second, I can't fathom that Kentucky isn't going to get an invite to the Big Dance now. The two numbers that override all are 12-4 and the tournament committee isn't going to omit a team from a power conference with a conference record this good - no matter how down the SEC might appear to be.

However, it might not be a bad think for everyone to keep carrying on like they aren't in the field yet. Basically, UK has been walking a tightrope for almost two months now - one bad loss sending them over the edge. It's worked so far so, hey, keep thinking like there's work to do boys!

All Important, All Powerful Selection Committee

The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee is composed of ten members from NCAA Division I schools.  The committee is heavily stacked with members from mid-major conferences, or members with mid-major backgrounds.  One thing to keep in mind when predicting who will be in and who will be out is the make-up of this committee.  These are the men and, yes, one woman, who will be deciding the fate of your favorite team.

Absolutely PATHETIC!!!!!!

If any mid major had their profile, there is no way they'd get in (oh wait, no mid would ever get their profile because Kentucky's of the world never play at their gym, so UK wouldn't even have their 2 "name" wins to speak of)...Sure they went 12-4 in the SEC, doesn't that sa more of how awful the SEC is this year? Gardner Webb, San Dieego, Houston, UAB, and a 40 point loss to Vandy away, a losing road/nuetral record...Just absolute garbage, they should need to at least win 1 in the SEC's...

Like or not, Ky still remains on the bubble. The selection committee will be looking very closely at the SEC 2nd round tourn game of Ky vs Ole Miss, assuming the Rebels defeat Georgia on Thurs.  A Ky win on Friday will get them in without a doubt, with 4 teams selected from the SEC (Tenn, Vandy, Miss St, Ky).

The bubble is bursting already for some teams with VCU losing in their conference tournament.  Is VCU in?  An argument can be made for them, and the selection committee as gone out of its way to include mid majors in the dance. Be it right or wrong, that has been recent history.

RPI, strength of schedule are definite strong factors, as well as performance in a team's last 10 games.  With that in mind Ky would seem to have the decided edge.  However, the selection committee's decisions are not always predictable.  As Larry would say it's time for the Cats to "gitter done" in the conference tournament and win that Friday game to remove any doubt. As long as they continue to control the ball, limit turnovers and hit their shots they should be able to accomplish that easily.

Doubting Kentucky can make a man look stupid

As much as I view Bradley and Crawford as saviors this year, I think they might have a hard time doing much in the NBA (Bradley has a better chance than Crawford).  Of course I said the same thing about Bogans and look where that got me.  Anyways, with everything considered, I think Kentucky is a team that, if nothing else, at least gives itself a chance to win every time out with its "new" four corners-like strategy.  I think they could win a first round tourney game.

correction: kentucky didn't beat up on just the bottom feeders, Kentucky holds wins over Tennessee, Vandy, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

For all those that say UK is on the bubble, there are looney bins with rooms still open. Kentucky has 12 wins in the SEC, SORRY to burst YOUR little bubble of hope that UK won't make it. It speaks volumes when a team like UK has a bad year, people want to write them off. Kentucky's bubble CAN'T burst, because they aren't on it. No team in the history of the NCAA tourney has ever been left out with 12 wins, sorry guys.

It has nothing to do with the name on the jersey. It has to do with being one of top 65 teams in the nation. Like a fellow UK fan said, Kentucky was't just this team that was terrible and got better. They started the season ranked, and injuries + new coach didn't help things. Two weeks ago UK was getting votes to be ranked, that we before a home victory over Ole miss and a tough 3 point road loss to UT. Last week they were still getting votes, and the polls come out in a couple of hours and don't be surprised if UK pops up on there. UK is a legit team, Crawford and Bradley are starting to show why they were the #1 recruiting class their freshman year. Don't be surprised if they go pro either.

Ky didn't beat up on bottom feeders.  It beat every team in the SEC except Miss St.  And that Miss St game should have been a win in my eyes but they let Varnado get away with like 15 fouls, 10 of them they called blocks.

I didnt know much about SU's team lsat year.  I remember how they started off bad like the cats and then pulled through in the conference play only to be denied by the NCAA.  But were the plagued with injuries early on?

And as for the comparison.  you also have to compare the field of teams this year.  I think once you get passed the top ten, this years field is weaker than last years.  When you look at all of the bubble teams, there really arent many who deserve it more than KY.  So yes, i do think UK deserves to be in.  And i'm not being a homer there, i really do think they belong.

And i think SU got robbed last year and should have been in.  But i do not think that will happen to UK this year.  Especially if they win their first SEC tourney game.
