RALEIGH, N.C. -- Congratulations, Kentucky Wildcats.

You will be included in the next Projecting the Field when I update late Sunday/early Monday, and let me go ahead and apologize for being among the last to come around and reward you for your turnaround. I doubted you for a while because I couldn't get past how terrible you were in November, December and early January. Then you got better. But I still doubted you because your best player (Patrick Patterson) went down with a season-ending injury. That was reasonable of me, I think. But even if you disagree it doesn't matter anymore, because the way you've responded minus Patterson has been convincing enough to ensure we are now in total agreement, that playing Tennessee tight before winning at South Carolina and beating Florida to improve to 18-11 overall and -- this is the important part -- 12-4 in the SEC is sufficient for inclusion to the NCAA tournament.

Honestly, I'm not sure how you got this thing turned around.

But make no mistake, you got this thing turned around.

So congratulations, Kentucky Wildcats.

Ashley Judd should be proud.

Doubting Kentucky can make a man look stupid

What now are the scenarios that could knock Kentucky out of the "Big Dance"?Losing to Ole Miss in the second round of theSEC tournament.

I agree...Ole Miss has finally started taking care of business.  I can't figure out why everyone is so high on Kentucky and doesn't seem to give Ole Miss a chance.  If one looks at overall profile and doesn't focus only on SEC record, I don't know how Kentucky could be ahead of Ole Miss.  I bet the Rebels beat Georgia in round one and then beat Kentucky in round two of the SEC tournament.  If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of the Kentucky homers still don't think they should be in over the Rebels.

Ole Miss has been taking care of business when it counts so how do you have them stacked up now?

Doubting Kentucky can make a man look stupid

First off.  Congrats to UK.  The turn around that they made was pretty surprising and they deserve to be in the NCAA tournament.  However, last I checked they were RANKED in the top 25 at the beginning of the season.  This is not a team who was supposed to be terrible and suddenly became great.  They have talent.  Alot of injuries, but talent.

This reminds me of everyone suddenly singing Phil Fulmer's praises after they won the SEC East.  They started out bad and managed to win the division but they had the talent and the expectations to do so.  Winning when you are supposed to is what both the coaches had in common.

Cat Fans,

Yes Ky has been winning, within the conference, and yes you did defeat Vandy, at home, by 6, while being blown out on the road by 41.  Perhaps that Rupp Arena advantage should be +15 or 20.

As for the RPI improvement, it does mean that Ky is on the upswing, but they still are on the bubble & not a lock for the tournament. Ky has managed, sucessfully, to control the tempo of most of their games, excluding the Vandy loss, and as long as they continue to do that, shoot over 50% and take care of the basketball, they should continue to be successful.   However losing to either Georgia or Ole Miss, will unfortunately burst the bubble.

The ACC, Big 12, Big East & PAC-10 are the power conferences this year, without question.

No need to get personal, I have no dog in this fight.

Dek we play in the SEC, maybe someone from the PAC10 or BIG EAST would like to test the waters.

Dek,

And sometimes the man never realizes how stupid they look. Last time I checked the SEC Conference RPI was 4th. With UK having in RPI of 52, means they are fairly good. Especially, when a few weeks ago it was around 150. thats about a 98 point improvement. Seems to say that they are rather HOT.

And by the way we also defeated Vandy. A 10-12 point advantage for being at home, have not yet seen any betting odds that will give any team that much gfor playing at home (4-5 on the top end).

Just my opinion, been known to be wrong.

Go Big Blue!

Great games against UF, UT, and SC are going to give this young team the momentum they need to get into the NCAA tourney and give they youth of this team some much needed tournament experience.

Don't count your chickens, just yet.  There are conference tournaments to be played, and if some of these strong mid-major teams are upset in those tournaments, these "bubble" teams will be watching from the sidelines.

Keep an eye on the tournaments!  The bubble watch starts there.
