Some quick thoughts now that the bracket is out

Some initial (and quick) thoughts ...

  • I have no real problem with the four No. 1 seeds. It's not the way I would've done it, but it's fine.
  • Tennessee shouldn't be the fourth No. 2 seed. It still has the No. 1 RPI and No. 1 strength of schedule.
  • I hate that Illinois State did not make the field. Guess losing by 30 in your league title game is a killer.
  • Michael Beasley vs. O.J. Mayo in the first round? Excellent!
  • Eight teams from the Big East is exactly right.
  • Memphis might have to play Texas in Houston in the South Regional final. That sucks for Memphis.
  • Wisconsin should be a No. 1 or No. 2 seed. A No. 3 seed is wrong for a Big Ten regular-season and tournament champion.
  • It's a good thing for Kentucky that Dwyane Wade is out of college. You remember the last time the Wildcats got Marquette, right?
  • I don't like South Alabama vs. Butler in the first round. It seems like a clever way to eliminate a non-BCS team that could make a run.
  • Ditto for Gonzaga vs. Davidson in the first round.

Some quick thoughts now that the bracket is out

Here is another problem: UNC could play Indiana in the second round. Well we know 10-12 people who don't want UNC to win it all. I don't think any team that has been in the top ten should ever be an 8 seed. I just look at the other 8/9 seeds and I know for sure that Indiana is the best of them all. I'd rather be Kansas in the second round than UNC.

I think the UNLV Kent St. game is another way to eliminate another non-BCS school early.

I can't agree that Wisconsin should be a 1 or 2 seed.  They are not close to being one of the top eight teams in the country.  It shouldn't matter that they won a watered down conference.

Some quick thoughts now that the bracket is out

Parrish--Glad to see someone stand up for what makes the March Madness truly what it is--the presence of mid-majors and even low-majors.  I tried to watch the four letter network's bracket television show and couldn't even make it to the brackets.  Jay Bilas is an ignorant ass.  What does he and Digger and the others (Coach Knight excepted--his players are scholar athletes in the truest sense) think that we should have?  Something like a combination between the BCS and the NBA playoffs--college basetball finally becomes NBA minor leagues.  Bilas said on tv this afternoon that there are "way too many Div I teams."  So, where would you make the cutoff?  Can the A-10 be in your NCAA tournament?  How about the oldest athletic conference in the country, the MVC?  No Horizon?  How about the West Coast conference?  How about the historic Ivy League or the Patriot League?   You're God, Bilas, you decide.  There are those of us who could decide much better, however--those of us who have attended NCAA basketball colleges and games that are lower than Div I Major.  I am a grad of Drake in the MVC, Denver in the Sun Belt, and Buffalo in the MAC (Yes, grad of all three-I was in college a long time.)  I am a fan of all those leagues.  The MAC and MVC regularly place teams in the Sweet Sixteen.  Which must really upset Digger and Bilas.  Root for the non-Majors!  Go Bulldogs!

Not Cool

It seems to me that the disparity is getting worse every year.  Can it really be a coincidence when 2 non-BCS schools that have a chance to  make an impact in the tournament have to play each other in the first round when it happens that many times?

Butler-South Alabama?
Drake-Western Kentucky?
Gonzaga-Davidson?
Kent St?

I mean c'mon!  4 of those teams are automatically out without even getting a chance.  Its college basketball not college football!! BCS should have no bearing on b'ball and it has gotten worse each year.  You are knocking teams out that could easily compete with the "big boys", and they cant have that.  Instead, we see the same crap we have to have stuffed down our throats all year.  USC at a 6? Are you serious?  Oregon at a 9??? Villanova even in the tourney?!?!?  It is getting more ridiculous -- it should just be about basketball, not about money.  And we all know it is about money...............

Some quick thoughts now that the bracket is out

So...since it is so clever, who are we eliminating?  The Jags or the Bulldogs?  Really not sure I follow.  And, if one of these teams beat the other (which is probable...haha..) why can't they make a run?  And, the other 7-10 game (Gonzaga vs. Davidson) is going to make my head explode.
