The Final Four is guaranteed one first-time coach

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Regardless of what happens in Sunday's Elite Eight games the Final Four will feature three coaches who are veterans of the event and one first-timer.

Already in are UCLA's Ben Howland (for the third time) and North Carolina's Roy Williams (for the sixth time). Joining them first will be either Memphis' John Calipari (who took UMass in 1996) and Texas' Rick Barnes (who took Texas in 2003). Then either Kansas' Bill Self or Davidson's Bob McKillop will complete the field. Neither of those have ever made the Final Four.

The Final Four is guaranteed one first-time coach

I just wanted to say that I personally like the short blog entries that give some stat that I don't want to spend time researching but the stat gives some insight how the teams might perform based on past history of the team and coach.

The Final Four is guaranteed one first-time coach

dacey,

Given that Parrish and all the other CBS lead writers are pumping out 2 articles a day during the NCAA tourney, I think it is understandable if the blog is sidelined for a bit.

You don't need a dissertation in every blog comment - the blog is there for the writer / journalist to provide their 'thoughts' on the day's events, not for you to critically analyse. Not everything in a blog needs to be relevant to you, I thought it was an interesting fact that could have an impact in the Final Four. If you want articles, then read the articles that Parrish and others put on the site. If you want to read a blog, accept that what goes on the blog is entirely up to the individual concerned and then judge it in that light

I also think it is pretty unreasonable to criticise Parrish for the standard of his blog when for the majority of the college basketball season (and offseason for that matter) he keeps his blog sharp and entertaining. More importantly, he updates it daily - when was the last time Freeman updated more than twice in a week? If you had read his blog for any substantial amount of time, you would understand that this is the case

The Final Four is guaranteed one first-time coach

Gary, could you put a little more substance into your blog?  They are turning into short snippets with no point.
A little factoid about one first-time coach going to the Final Four...what does that mean?  What is the relevance?
It needs some more work.  A four sentence blog doesnt give your readers much to work with.  Thanks.

It will be a very interesting chess match between Self and McKillop today. Timely substitutions, switch-off defense, playing to their team's strengths (and opponents' weaknesses). One thing is guaranteed: whichever of those coaches takes his team to the FF will have earned it.

73-70 KU on some late heroics IMO...
