All focus is on Oklahoma State and its cash giveaway.
Plus Providence and Stanford.
Those are the only high-profile jobs still open, though if Providence gets rejected by a third non-BCS-affiliated coach in the next week I'm going to consider dropping it from the list. Either way, there are still other positions to be filled, even if they aren't getting national headlines. One of them is in MAAC, where Marist continues to search for Matt Brady's replacement.
According to sources, the leading candidate is Pittsburgh assistant Tom Herrion.
If so, Marist would be wise to close the deal ASAP.
That is, unless it believes it can find another coach with an 80-38 record as a head coach at a higher level.
For those unfamiliar, Herrion was the coach at College of Charleston from 2002-2006. He won 25 games his first season and never won fewer than 17 in any year before being bought out of his contract following an administration change. Put another way, Marist has the opportunity to land a coach who has already been a head coach at a higher level and won at a higher level despite still being only 40 years old.
So don't be surprised if Herrion is offered the position early next week.
And if he accepts, don't be surprised when Marist continues its recent winning ways.

Tom Herrion is the leader at MaristFinally you CBS guys don't need an ESPN analyst like myself to help you out. Tom Herrion + Marist=Good Deal. Herrion will not only improve Marist, but he will bring spark and I believe that this could help them reach the tournament. |

Tom Herrion is the leader at MaristOver the last decade, the MAAC has usually been ranked ahead of the Southern Conference (by both the RPI and Sagarin). Thus I'm not sure what the "higher level" comment is supposed to mean. |
