Dorsey: Anderson and Dozier returning to Memphis

Posted on: May 23, 2008 10:10 am

Antonio Anderson and Robert Dozier are keeping quiet about their future plans.

But, as always, Joey Dorsey is talking.

The former Memphis Tiger told CBSSports.com on Friday morning that though Anderson and Dozier are still technically in the NBA Draft, they are planning to withdraw and return to college for their senior years.

"They will be coming back to school," Dorsey said. "Take it from me. They're coming back."

Assuming Dorsey is correct -- and he promised he is -- John Calipari is assured of another preseason Top 15 team even with the losses of Dorsey, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Derrick Rose. A probable Memphis starting lineup will be Willie Kemp, Tyreke Evans, Anderson, Dozier and Shawn Taggart.

I think you may be back-peddling just a little there Gar. You may not of meant to sound like you were bashing Joey but that's the way it read. Do you wonder why athletes and others are "guarded" and seldom just say what they think? Because when they do, they are bashed for it by the media. The same way you are when you try to be glib and it comes off as mean spirited.

Poor Memphis, poor Calipari.  Maybe they should get some basketball players instead of athletes, basketball players hit free throws.

Oh poor Memphis.  We cant hit free throws.  Lets hope Mr. Evans can hit one, or it may not make  it to the championship.  Keep being bitter, but the CHAMPIONSHIP RESIDES IN LAWRENCE!!

Why would this give anybody a reason to bash Dorsey?

He just said to trust him, that Dozier and Anderson are coming back.

Not sure where anybody could find a "bash-Joey" moment in that. For my money, the guy is the most consistently entertaining interview a college basketball writer could get over the past four years. He's never guarded and just says what he thinks, regardless of the circumstances. As a person who talks to basketball players every day, let me say I always appreciated Joey's candor.

I wish there were more guys like Joey Dorsey to interview.

Alas, there aren't.

Dorsey: Anderson and Dozier returning to Memphis

In all honesty, did anyone really think they were going to remain in the draft?  I love these 2 guys but we all knew they weren't going to stay in.  Everyone saw what happened with D-Wash a couple of years back.  He was so certain that he would be drafted and he left only to end up in Europe.  Yes, we all know he had a son and needed to be able to take care of him.  Returning will only help Antonio in next years draft.  He needs to work on his offense.  We all see his outstanding prowess on the defensive end of the court, as well as his conditioning.  If memory serves me correctly, didn't he play the most minutes last season?  He will probably go late 1st to mid 2nd round next year.  Robert, however, has to come back with a fire lit under his butt.  His play was to sporadic this year, especially in the tourney.  He has the size and athletic potential to be awesome, if he would consistently apply himself.  He can block shots from nowhere and has a good short to mid-range jumper.  He is quick and, like Antonio, is conditioned very well.  I believe out of the two, he has the greatest potential to make a jump in next year's draft.  But, the focus now is back to next season and their UNFINISHED BUSINESS!  Time for the Tigers to TCB!   GO TIGERS GO!

Gary,

Thanks for keeping the Memphis locals informed about Tiger basketball.  We miss you around here but are proud of where you are.  I hope the Tigers get another shot at the title next year.  Let's hope all our players are eligible to enter college unlike a certain Kansas player who will remain unnamed, except he entered the NBA draft and his initials are DA....**wink wink**
