Will Coleman committed to Memphis on Thursday night, a source told CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-9, 265-pound power forward is a rising sophomore at Miami-Dade Community College. He was FCCAA All-Southern Conference First Team last season and won the NJCAA National Player of the Week award in January after averaging 15.3 points and 15.7 rebounds in a three-game stretch.

Coleman joins Nolan Dennis, a high school guard from Texas, as Class of 2009 products who have now announced they plan to sign with the Tigers in November. Memphis is also in with countless other high-level prospects, among them Xavier Henry, John Wall and Kenny Boynton.

In other Memphis news, there was speculation Thursday that Class of 2008 signees Angel Garcia and Matt Simpkins have been cleared by the NCAA to participate as freshmen this season. However, a source told CBSSports.com that the NCAA Clearing House hasn't yet ruled on Garcia or Simpkins, meaning John Calipari and staff are still waiting to know exactly how their 2008-09 roster will look.

You are witnessing lightning in a bottle.  It will be short lived.  Cal is crooked and will be exposed sooner or later.  A leopard doesn't change his spots.

Bluegrass, you'd better get some of that lightning in a bottle!  You guys certainly brought in a dud at UK.  He'll run out of lightning himself before long and have to survive on his own merits.

Cal is a genius in what he's managed to do with a program that was on the verge of extinction when he arrived.

2nd in the state, well really third since Vandy is probably better. God forbid they actually drug test your players or check on Cal

Clearly we are the best team in the state. That is not even an arguement. And Just because Vandy beat you all doesnt mean they would do the same to us. You all just wasted all your efforts into beating us, and when you all did, You had a horrible season let down. Like you always do. Maybe Pearl should start recruiting and coaching in order to survive in the tournament. Instead of treating Memphis like a National Championship Game. Kansas lost more regular season games than us, but does that matter? Hell Kansas St. beat them. Does that make them the second best team in Kansas? No. The tournament is were it matters. Untill the Vols learn how to compete deep into the tournament, and make it past the sweet sixteen, than maybe this would be an arguement.

Oh yea... Drug test. Hell we lost are second string point gaurd to drug tests right before the championship. Dont make it seem like we are getting away with murder. And can you believe a Vol talking about the type of players we have, with all the players they have to kick off. Its not like Pearl is recruiting angels!

Now he is a "Fast-riser, Up & comer, great prospect" and all - merely cause Memphis wants him.   There's no bias in the recruiting process, nah.  Coleman goes from nowhere to 'great get' in less than a month.  Wow.  Classic example of bias in the ratings systems.

Do you know this is so...

BECAUSE IF HE'S COMING TO MEMPHIS HE MUST BE GOOD!!!!LOL HATER

Robert Dozier was not a big-name recruit when came in, I think 83rd in his class. Now he's in compition for the Player of the Year for his senior year.

Dorsey was not a mega recruit, and He turned out to be a monster!

Rodney Carney was so slept on also coming out of Indiana, we all know how good he became

The list goes on.

My point is in order to be recruited by Cal you must be good Bias or not. He hasnt had to many duds. The country is just catching on to the trend.

By the way did you kno Who Chris Douglas Roberts was coming out of Highschool?

Guess it just goes to show:  It's Not who you know, it's who you b_low.

Prior to his committing to Mempho - you could not find this kid with GPS, even with a homing device in his pocket.  Played behind Steve Toyloy at Miami-Dade CC and was not on anyone's lists or radar.  A no-star at scout & rivals, until now.  Now he's a 3-star prospect in the new listings??

I think the team of the decade comment got a little overblown. It was just a humble opinion. My point was no team has ever won as many games in a three year period, Maybe four if they win 28 this year.  If they add a title in '09 or '10 they would make a good arguement. Considering Florida had two good years, but that was the same class, same players. If syaracuse had Carmello four years they would have won maybe four titles. If memphis had derrick rose for four years they would certainly win two titles also. U of M loses alot Players every year and when they are set to have a couple years of rebuilding instead the are still hangin around the top.  Syracuse won a title but those are a salute to the players not the program. People please remember minus one bad play, Memphis would have been consider the best team of all-time hands down. The last five years Ive seen Ohio state rise and fall, Florida, LSU, DUKE, Wisconsin, Georgetown, Louiville, Villonova, Numerous teams. Memphis has competed with them throu their great teams and lost players also, but they are still up there every year.

...Ok if not team of the decade, How about most exciting team of the decade, Maybe ever!

disliking a program = envy

Memphis has it going now as good as any programs in
America other than UNC or UCLA. Yeah, they have just
as good a program right now as Duke does, if not
better.

Sure, they take players who are not great students,
but there are only but so many great players/great students
around.

How great were the players in YOUR program in
high school academically as far as their SAT scores
and GPA of their core curriculm classes?

It's not official yet, but Wall's AAU coach was given a job at Baylor so the rumor is Wall will follow. It's the same way Memphis lured Dejuan Wagner by giving his father, Milt, a job on the staff. It's funny how these programs can offer jobs to people that can influence a kids decision on where to attend college, but its not an NCAA violation.

From what I've read, John Wall is similar to Derrick Rose. A strong guard who is one and done. It would make sense that he should attend a program like Memphis with their recent history and the way Calipari helps players reach their upmost potential. There are other schools that develop players as well that would be a good fit for a player only attending college one year: UNC, UCLA, Texas and Duke are also great options.

How many players has Baylor had drafted in the first round? Brian Skinner (22) in 1998, Terry Teagle (16) in 1982 and Vinnie Johnson (7) in 1979...The last good player out of Baylor was David Wesley and he went undrafted. If Wall selects Baylor as expected, he will only hurt his draft status in the 2010 NBA Draft because he won't have a system that can polish his skills for the NBA.
