Will Coleman committed to Memphis on Thursday night, a source told CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-9, 265-pound power forward is a rising sophomore at Miami-Dade Community College. He was FCCAA All-Southern Conference First Team last season and won the NJCAA National Player of the Week award in January after averaging 15.3 points and 15.7 rebounds in a three-game stretch.

Coleman joins Nolan Dennis, a high school guard from Texas, as Class of 2009 products who have now announced they plan to sign with the Tigers in November. Memphis is also in with countless other high-level prospects, among them Xavier Henry, John Wall and Kenny Boynton.

In other Memphis news, there was speculation Thursday that Class of 2008 signees Angel Garcia and Matt Simpkins have been cleared by the NCAA to participate as freshmen this season. However, a source told CBSSports.com that the NCAA Clearing House hasn't yet ruled on Garcia or Simpkins, meaning John Calipari and staff are still waiting to know exactly how their 2008-09 roster will look.

For a mid major team beating the likes of Miss St, Mich St, Texas and ULCA, Gonzaga and only losing the National title game to Kansas, I would say that was a good year. I think they had the best record in College basketball that season. Who knows what they will do next season or in 2010 but I think they are a top 10 program for sure.

You are witnessing lightning in a bottle.  It will be short lived.  Cal is crooked and will be exposed sooner or later.  A leopard doesn't change his spots.

The early 2000 teams were not terrible they just were not great! They one the NIT and made a couple of early exits out the tournament, In that case Duke has been terrible lately!

I'm still depressed that Roburt Sallie isn't coming to Nebraska due to a technicallity. Our team would probalby have made the big dance with him. Now it will be a struggle, with no proven scorers.

Memphis fans get a little bit carried away with this talk.  Memphis has had some very good teams the past few years, but the numbers are a little inflated with them playing in Conference USA.  The whole team of the decade thing is premature at best.  Memphis had teams that were terrible in the early 2000's.  There are many teams who have better records and more final fours and obviously more championships than Memphis does.  Memphis will continue to get the one and done recruits because they know they can display there talents in one of the weakest conferences in the country.

Too bad Coleman can't play this year! It's always nice if you can throw in someone who can bang and twice as nice if he can score -- both of which this kid seems to be able to do. With no Joey around to intimidate people by swatting and altering shots, we're going to get scored on more than last year. We'll have to average better than the low 80's to get back to an "elite" finish in the tournament next year. We'll be long and lean this year with lots of new faces, but I think we'll still be a top 20 team from wire to wire. We only have a couple of proven scorers, so some people are going to have to step up and show what they've got. If Pierre comes in at 280, we'll be a lot better off.
