I'm a little torn about the league's decision to have Kobe play in the All-Star game.  I understand that they really want him to play to attract and please fans, but I also understand that giving rest to his finger is pretty important for the run to the playoffs.  So, I guess he'll play for a few minutes, make a couple shots or great passes, and then sit out.  He can't jam that finger anymore or else he WILL be out for surgery.

Have a 2-2 record on the difficult road trip minus Gasol isn't bad at all.  I really like the way we ended the trip, though.  A lot of intensity and flow on both ends of the court.  We have to keep our feet on the gas, though and not be surprised by ANY sub-par teams.  Every win is of the essence!

We all know Defense wins championships.  So many people are talking about the Lakers as a Championship contender.  Well, they really need to tighten up on defense to get that far.  They have some really tough games coming up- New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Utah.  If they can win 3 out of 4 of those games, it will be a major, major statement to the league.  They will only win those games with Defense.

Interior defense really needs improvement.  Gasol, Odom, Turiaf must play the paint denying easy buckets.  When there are 3-point shooters on the court, they need to adjust, but we can't allow the lane to be so open.

The win against Phoenix was a big win.  Here are some of my thoughts on it...

When we were running the triangle it was creating very, very easy baskets using the high pick and roll.  The first quarter had probably 2/3 of our points in the paint.  We need to be more disciplined and run the offense.  It will create easy opportunities.

What I didn't like was what happened in the 4th with Kobe playing a lot of 1 on 1 ball.  What if he doesn't score at will against them?  I knew he was in a good rhythm, but he still has to remain a team player.  He has really developed in this, but at the end of the Phoenix game, I thought he took over a bit much.  Granted- we got the WIN which is all that matters.

Odom traded for Butler?  I don't know if that is such a good idea.  I know Odom is inconsistent except in rebounding- which he does a great job.  I don't know if we need another scorer in Butler coming.  When Bynum comes back, he's going to need some touches, Kobe needs touches, Gasol doesn't need as many touches because he is such a good facilitator.  So, I say we stay with our team as it is.
