I told you so on Taylor

Last spring, I warned Washington Redskins fans that dealing for Jason Taylor was a mistake.

They ripped me. Others in the media also praised the move.

How could I dare say that about a defensive end who could rush the passer, coming off an 11-sack season? Here's how? You don't trade for old players. That's when you get in big trouble.

Now the Redskins have released Taylor and they are out a second-round pick because of it. For that pick, they ended up with a player who gave them 3 1/2 sacks in eight starts. He was limited because of injuries.

That's what happens to 34-year-old players. They break down. They slow. You don't give up premium picks for aging players. That's what bad franchises do.

The Redskins say they are releasing him because Taylor refused a clause in his contract that would have required him to take part in the majority of their off-season workouts. That's garbage. They released him because he's not who they thought he was.

I was right. So quit ripping me.

Gotta agree with most people here about this column.  If Mr. Prisco wants to write opinion pieces, he ought to have a thicker skin about the criticism that comes with them.  I told you so columns are just in poor taste.

Besides, predicting any move that Dan Snyder makes will be a bad one is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel.  If you're going to stick it to your critics, do it when you've really gone out on a limb and been proven right.  Say, like the time you declared that a QB drafted in the 6th round would be better than everyone drafted before him.

Yup, Taylor was a bad signing.  Frankly, predicting that signing a 34 year old DE and then playing him on the opposite side from where he's played his entire pro career won't turn out well is alot like predicting the sun will rise.  More interesting is the one's that aren't obvious.  Today's example is the Haynesworth signing.  He's 27, and a dominant player at a position where the Redskins have been fatally weak for years.  He could be the next Reggie White, in which case the Redskins D becomes a dominating force that propels them to playoff contention for the next several years.  Or, he could be a complete bust (of which there are far too many examples to enumerate them all).  What's your feeling on THAT acquisition ?

LOL....yeah, spending money does it every time.  Take Randle El, Archuletta, Jason Taylor, Brand Lloyd....etc etc.  You draft quality players and build around them, the Skins have what, 4 picks this year?.....and no money to sign anyone anyway.  How many years can the Skins basically not participate in the draft and expect to win anything, Snyder is an idiot.

Thank you Pete

Where's Mel Kiper right now? The guy ripped the Jags to shreds, saying that Jason Taylor was worth a 1st round pick last year. You build for the future, that's what all good franchises do.
