Eagles line is brutish

Don't mess with the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line.

It is nasty.

By trading for left tackle Jason Peters Friday -- the deal is pending a new contract and Peters passing a physical -- the Eagles might now be able to stake a claim as having the best line in the NFL, complete with brawlers and maulers.

With Peters in at left tackle, the Eagles can keep Todd Herremans at left guard. The right side will be made up of the Andrews brothers, Shawn at guard and Stacy at tackle, and the center is Jamaal Jackson. From tackle-to-tackle, the line will average 331 pounds. That will wear down a defense for four quarters.

Peters didn't play that well last season for the Buffalo Bills after missing training camp in a contract holdout. But he's always been one of the tackles I've liked watch play. He is nasty. When he came out of Arkansas as a tight end, I listed him as one of my annual "Better-than" players that year, players who I liked more than the scouts.

In that column I mentioned that I thought Peters could be a really good tackle. You can look it up.

I like this move by the Eagles, just like I liked the move to sign Stacy Andrews as a free agent from the Bengals. The Eagles line is now big, powerful and physical.

It is also young.

When the season starts, Jackson will be the oldest at 29. Stacy Andrews will be 28, Peters 27, Shawn Andrews and Heremans each 26.

I'll take that group right now over any other in the league for age, nastiness and talent.

Getting Peters is a great move for the Eagles. The price of a three picks. including the No. 28 pick in the first round of next week's draft, and a new contract is steep. But if Peters plays like he did a few years ago, this will be well worth it.

Eagles line is brutish

Ah the Eagles fans are salivating and I guess I would if I were them as well. This trade looks great on paper A two time pro bowl LT for a first a fourth and a sixth. That being said I liked peters great feet and quick. The down side of JP is that he is a selfish malcontent who's play has regressed. He gave up more sacks than any starting LT in the league last year and seems to be injury prone, has missed time in the last two years. I might be wrong here but I suspect once the Eagles pay him he will eat his way out of the NFL in the next few years, just seems to be this guys style. Oh yeah and to top it off he might just be the dumbest player in the league, scored a 6 on the wonderlic. I like the Eagles and hope this works out for them however I suspect Eagles fans just might rue this trade.

This is a great trade...for the Ravens.  This will officially take the Eagles out of the Boldin sweepstakes.  No way the Eagles trade a one and a 3, now, for Boldin.  The Giants have always been more interested in Braylon Edwards.  And the Ravens won't make their move until the Giants get Edwards.  So, I bet the Ravens not only get Boldin, but the price will be much cheaper after the Eagles and Giants are out of the sweepstatkes.

Eagles line is brutish

Good finally got rid of the bum. He is solid at LT but cant pass block that great. He gave up 11.5 sacks last year the most amongst all LT's in the league. Him and Dockery were undependable on the left side of the o-line. Kirk Chambers looked better than Peters when he was in. We just slide Langston Walker  over to LT, plug in Bell at RT. We can also draft a stud T in the draft to groom or put at RT until hes ready for LT. I think with Phillys pick we might look at one of the drafts premier Centers. Like some other poster said have fun watching Peters get owned by the cowboys and giants d-lines. He was a whiny baby and were happy to be rid of him!!!

Eagles line is brutish

Do you Giants fans have nothing else better to do than state your opinion about your DL line,  on a thread that started with a trade by the Eagles for an OL man?  Sounds like someone's intimidated, and a little jealous of the spotlight.  Don't worry boys, you'll get your 15 minutes of fame when the media starts hounding you about your plans for retribution after a 2nd straight exit from the playoffs at the hands of the Eagles.

Yes, the Eagles OL is 'brutish'. Unfortunately, the 'wearing down defenses' part only comes into play if you run the ball consistantly, which Andy Reid does NOT. And, it will give Donovan McNabb plenty of time to find those WR's who cant get open.

I like the move, but it is bitter sweet. We have a great OL now, but it takes us, most likely, out of the running for Anquan Boldin or Chad Ocho cinco, or whatever he calls himself this week. Unless we draft a RB like Brown from UCONN, or someone that can provide a Kevin Mack / Earnest Byner type running combo with Brian Westbrook, and Reid does a total 180 on his offensive philosophy, the brutish OL wont help us all that much in the near future.

The defense lost it's leader in Brian Dawkins, but the Birds did manage to pick up 2 under the radar safeties in Sean Jones from the Browns, and another from the Raiders whose name escapes me. If these 2 guys are as good as advertised, we may have the second coming of Andre Waters and Wes Hopkins in the secondary.

i don't know what kind of football you've been watchin but if the eagles can trade their other first round pick and a 3rd on braylon or boldin they would be a top 3 team again. those are top notch receivers and no other player that falls to them will be worth what those guys can  bring to the table. and i am no means an eagle fan but either one of them would push the eagles to where they need to be offensively and they would open the game up for westbrook and 2nd year receiver desean jackson. trust me, if they can pull the trigger on one of those guys they should fire away......

Eagles line is brutish

Unless Peters just turns into a lazy bumb, then it was a great move. No kidding the Eagles have a great line. They do have a problem though, and that problem will probably be fixed in this years draft. I hate the Eagles by the way, but I definately respect them. The problem is at RB. Westbrook is a perfect RB for a team with a average or poor line and they need a guy that can run between the tackles. Moreno would fit in well. I really do look for the Eagles to go that route.

Defense is another story. They have some great players but they have been losing some studs. They need to be able to draft and keep their players and it just doesn't seem to be happening enough.
