Vick coming back?

Here's what I'm hearing on the Michael Vick situation: The word, according to one source, is that Vick will be given permission to sign with an NFL team in the next week or so, but he will not be re-instated before then.

That means he'll likely be twisting in the wind.

The problem with that scenario is that teams will be reluctant to sign him to a contract with the length of any supsension by the league still undetermined. That would be another cruel blow to Vick's playing status.

Vick is expected to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the next week or so to discuss his re-instatement after his sentence for his role in a dog-fighting ring ended Monday.

Goodell will likely announce then that Vick can sign with any team, but there pending suspension is to be determined. That would allow Vick to take part in training camp and the preseason if a team signs him.

That would be a big if, with the potential of a half-season suspension, which is why some will say that scenario isn't exactly fair to Vick.

He could opt to play in the UFL, but the word is he wants to exhaust all NFL possibilities first. The UFL is willing to pay him a substantial salary to play in the league, according to a source, probably more than he'd make in the NFL.

At any rate, the Vick situation might become messier before it clears up.

Vick coming back?

Great Post! 2 years out is penalty enough. To let him twist in the wind is wrong. If the government says that his debt has been paid, who is Goddell to overrule that? Why doesn't Goddell spend more time doing something for the NFL veterans who built the league and have no healthcare?

Vick coming back?

You are correct.  You have hit the proverbial nail on the head.  As I recall, doesn't drunken (.126?) vehicular manslaughter usually get you 25 to life?  I understand that his out-of-court settlement helped lighten his sentence, but...come on.  If there is any justice in the world, Vick will be signed immediately.  I don't care how long he has been out of the game, talent like that does not diminish quickly.

Vick coming back?

Some people might boycot whatever team he plays for, but guess what, there are more people out there that don't care about what he did.  People can gone and give up their season tickets so that people that don't have them can buy them.  The man realizes his mistakes and I really think he will be careful of who he calls his friends. He needs to be reinstated and allowed to play again.

I hope Roger Goodell doesn' decide to play God and put himself above the law.
The man has paid his dues and the law says he's free.
He should be allowed to make a living anyway he chooses.
That talk about playing in the NFL being a privilege and not a right
is baloney and won't hold up before a Court of Law.

Vick coming back?

Nah.... Daniel Snyder is still the desperate loser he's always been so he'll probably beg Vick to play for the Redskins.

Vick coming back?

I don’t know how good of a PR move it would be to hire this guy since probably 60% of the football game participants might own dogs. They would definitely have to do MAJOR damage control and he would need to speak to the public in attempt to make things better. I’m speaking for myself, but I wouldn’t want him on my team and would boo his ass if I saw him play.

Vick coming back?

Yes Michael Vick served his time but what's the rush is the Commish making a determination of when to let him back in the league? Let Vick twist in the wind for awhile and sweat. I believe he'll eventually get another shot but can never see him the same light again.

You know, on second thought... does he really belong in the NFL? I mean come on... the idiot is an animal murdering jackass. There, I said it and you know what, it feels good!!!

Vick coming back?

Vick was indefinitely suspended 2 seasons ago.  He missed all of 2007 before he even went to jail.
