Vick coming back?

Here's what I'm hearing on the Michael Vick situation: The word, according to one source, is that Vick will be given permission to sign with an NFL team in the next week or so, but he will not be re-instated before then.

That means he'll likely be twisting in the wind.

The problem with that scenario is that teams will be reluctant to sign him to a contract with the length of any supsension by the league still undetermined. That would be another cruel blow to Vick's playing status.

Vick is expected to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the next week or so to discuss his re-instatement after his sentence for his role in a dog-fighting ring ended Monday.

Goodell will likely announce then that Vick can sign with any team, but there pending suspension is to be determined. That would allow Vick to take part in training camp and the preseason if a team signs him.

That would be a big if, with the potential of a half-season suspension, which is why some will say that scenario isn't exactly fair to Vick.

He could opt to play in the UFL, but the word is he wants to exhaust all NFL possibilities first. The UFL is willing to pay him a substantial salary to play in the league, according to a source, probably more than he'd make in the NFL.

At any rate, the Vick situation might become messier before it clears up.

FAIR??

That would be a big if, with the potential of a half-game suspension, which is why some will say that scenario isn't exactly fair to Vick.

Half-game suspension??

Anyways the point is he has had a pattern of misconduct in his NFL career, capped by financing the fighting / GAMBLING ring.  Top it off by bald face lying to the owner of the team AND the COMMISSIONER OF THE NFL. So what is not fair about his "indefinite" suspension status?

You do realize that involvement in gambling, as a player in the NFL can lead to suspension for life right?

"The National Football League prohibits any association with gamblers or with gambling activities. Such involvement may result in severe penalties, including "a suspension from the NFL for life,"

Too bad life isnt fair Vick.  Too goddamn bad.  I can tell you one thing, if I had 100 million contract i sure as hell wouldnt be droppin chump change on stupid dog fights....(chump change to a person with a 100 million contract that is)

He should be suspended indefinitely, which means, well, until there is a good reason to change it.....remember most criminals go to prison and come out better criminals....vick is no different.  his pattern of behavior during his entire NFL career was selfish, egotistical, idiotic, and criminal...

Vick coming back?

Vick served his time.  End of story, if the NFL wants to take him back he should be let in.  By your philosophy, you  better hope you never get accused of a crime and falsely or rightly imprisoned.  Then the world should never let you do anything again?  Thats BS.  If thats the philosophy, then lets take all criminals out and just shoot them in the head.

Vick coming back?

Michael Vick has no "rights"to return to the NFL. As a convicdted felon most of his rights have been taken away from him by the Federal Judiciary System. Vick was convicted of racketeering and financing an ongoing interstate criminal enterprise. This wasn't jaywalking or mere stealing, this was flaunting the law Capone Style. The NFL owes this individual nothing. All of Vicks peoblems are self-inflicted. A clear message needs to be sent to the players that there are lines that cant be crosser. Commiting felonies of this magnitude should be grounds for a lifetime ban. Find you a job Mr. Vick but where you cant poison the brains of youth.

Vick coming back?

Anyone else realize it will take a while for Vick to get in shape? Not to mention he missed some prime years.  He will get the chance to work out; but does anyone think he has a legitimate shot to ever be in the league as a starter again?

Vick coming back?

That is so right.....
Roger Goodell needs to make that decision in the next 3-5 days.  I am so against what Mike Vick was apart of BUT... He did the time and served his sentence.  There are People int he NFL that have done worse and paid less.  I personal;ly do not like him but he DOES deserve to play in 2009.

Pwesonally I am a Huge Giant fan, and I  would love to see him in New York.  He would add such a wrinkle to our offense and he has to be on good behavior.....

Good Like Mike and see you in the NFL...

Vick coming back?

Roger Goodell's deliberation is actually WORSE for Michael Vick than just banning him for the year. In essence, he is keeping Vick from signing a contract with the UFL.

I can't blame Vick for wanting to return to the NFL. Despite what this article suggests, I have a hard time believing he would make anywhere near as much in the UFL. If he still has 50% of the athleticism he had prior to all this, he is worth more than the average NFL salary.

Granted, Vick would instantly replace J.P. Losman as the face of the UFL. But his ability and history of success would no doubt make him an intriguing option for an NFL team in search of a Seneca Wallace/Michael Robinson-type athlete. With a little professional conditioning, he will return quickly to his dominant form.

Vick coming back?

Roger Goodell needs to pull the trigger on this one way or another.  He's gonna take the heat from both sides of the issue as well, so get it done and over with.  No team will touch him until they're clear of any further action the league may or may not take with Vick.  All the excuses of waiting for his legal issues to pass are gone and now it's on Goodell to make his decision.  Quit Favre'n around and lets move on!!

Vick coming back?

If Vick is suspended then Stallworth better get 3 times what he does that's all I have to say.  If he gets 8 games, then Stallworth should get 24...  Vick served his time and lost more money then Stallworth will ever make in his life...

And yes, I have a dog. He's outside playing around right now. What Vick did was disgusting. But murderers and rapists get paroled and get to work,, they help them find jobs. To stop Vick from playing would be a crime in itself.

Vick coming back?

I agree when this all went down I thought he should never play in any pro league again, but after the last two years Im ready as an NFL fan to see him back in the league, and yeah I would root for him and hope that he does good. What he did was unacceptable and he paid his debt to society for it and now he should be quickly reinstated to play. Like you said Donte Stallworth killed someone and got 24 days for it and if Vick gets suspended by Goddell and its shorter or the same length as Stallworths then Roger just lost my respect I hope that Goddell uses his common sense and lets Vick play this season for whatever team that is willing to sign him and I really hope the fans remember that he is working hard with the American Humaines society and has been forgiven by the president of the AMS and not to just boo him for the rest of his days or years in the NFL.

Vick coming back?

He did his time based on his criminal conviction and should get a chance to play again after he serves the suspension the league gives him. Its a privalage to play pro sports , not a right. He will get his chance soon and thats good for him and lets hope he learned a lesson....many don't and end up in prison for much longer. Godell is looking out for the sport since thats his job !!! Vick should get a penalty from the league just like any league would do ! Criminal acts by players is killing the league not the commish !! Get it right !
