Why, Eagles?

Can you picture this? Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, sitting on the sidelines watching his team close out a meaningless preseason game while being told the NFL's big news of the day?

"Donovan, we've signed Mike Vick," Andy Reid might have said.

"You did what?" McNabb had to say.

He has to be shocked like the rest of us. Why would the Eagles, a team that builds so well through the draft and makes good football decisions, bring in Vick? The Eagles agreed to a two-year deal with Vick Thursday night, ending the where-will-he-play talk for now.

My question is this: What's the point?

Is Vick being brought in as a backup? If that's why, it's fine. If it's to take snaps from McNabb, it's just dumb.

McNabb is a top-10 quarterback who led his team to the NFC Championship Game. He needs to be on the field all the time.

As for Vick, watching McNabb might be good for him.

Early in his career, McNabb was a run-around quarterback who wasn't a good passer. But as he's stopped running and started scrambling to throw instead of to run he's made huge strides as a passer.

Vick has to do the same, so watching and learning from McNabb might be a good thing for him. And the Eagles are a good organization for a troubled player from a stability standpoint. Of course, the Eagles fans are another story.

What I can't figure out is what Vick will do for the Eagles, unless holding a clipboard is a good exchange for dealing with the circus that will follow him.

Why, Eagles

They are going to probably pay him THE LEAGUE MINIMUM!!!! Why not take a chance on a 53 man roster? If it does not work they can simply cut him. Obviously the Eagles can use the wildcat or even line him up in the slot. He is a tremendous athelete! In the NFC East they need all the help they can get.........what a tough division!

Why, Eagles

Now if they can only rebuild the offensive line...

Why, Eagles

I am happy for Vick to sign with a team and I think the Eagles are a good fit for him. He can learn under Donovan McNabb, but hopefully they put him in the game in trick packages because Vick can still change the course of a game with his speed. Maybe, Kevin Kolb was not the future of the Eagles after all, but this is one of the class organizations he could have gone to with New England (my prefered choice), Pittsburgh, Indy, and Philly

As a Patriots fan, I could say Mike Vick would be a better backup than Andrew Walter. But, that is yet to be seen.

Good to see Vick in the NFL again

Why, Eagles

Pete, imagine McNabb, Vick, Westbrook, Jackson, and Maclin all on the field at the same time. Mcnabb and Vick can both run and throw. There are so many options with both of them on the field at the same time.

Why, Eagles

As a Philly guy, I am shocked! Is Kolb trade bait? is it Vicks team in the future? Is it just a value move, in hopes that Vick's stock will rise? Get your popcorn folks.

Why, Eagles

The problem is you judging eagles fan in general, Prisco....Do me a favor a buy a clue!  They are passionate fans. You can hate all you want.  You can root for your no good franchises that have no following whatsoever, act like deatbeats when their team is getting pummeled, and could care less about it.  You writers are a joke

Why, Eagles

Obviously Andy thinks that Michael Vick is still a quality athelete that posesses talent.  And you can't have enough of those types of individuals on your football team.

I see Vick not only as an option in some type of Wildcat formation, but as an option possibly at tailback in case Westbrook goes down again.  And you have to admit, he would definitely seem like a much better choice as the backup QB than Kevin Kolb or AJ Feeley.

The guy has paid his dues to society.... Federal Prision, public humiliation, bankruptcy, etc.  He deserves a second chance and I'm glad the Birds are willing to give that to him.

Just keep your distance from Juqua Parker Michael, since we know you like to smoke weed too.  Surprised

Why, Eagles

I think it is a good move. Nobody said Michael Vick will be playing quarterback people forget he was one of the best rushers in the game. The Eagles will be stacked with breakaway playmakers: Brian Westbrook, Desean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, now add Vick to the list; they are going to be the hardest offense to defend.

Why, Eagles

I see this as a charity move. Andy gave the guy an opportunity few, if any, would give him. Vick will come into camp, be the good team payer, do his community appearances, and play nice while holding the clipboard, IF he dresses. Reid is a QB developer and will work with Vick on being a pocket QB. If he keeps his nose clean, other teams will give Vick a shot after the Eagles cut him in the off season. Or earlier. It's a back-loaded 2-year deal so I see this as a one year contract.
