Browns QB: Does it matter?

So the Cleveland Browns are turning to Derek Anderson at quarterback (story here ) and sitting down Brady Quinn? I bet Browns fans would like to see Eric Mangini and owner Randy Lerner sit down ... together on a plane out of town.

The Browns are horrible and sitting Quinn down for a guy who threw three interceptions last week makes no sense. It doesn't matter if Otto Graham walked in now in his prime, the Browns would still stink. Why? There are no weapons for the quarterback. Who do they throw to? Who runs it? A slow-to-the-hole Jamal Lewis? Jerome Harrison? Or rookie James Davis. No passing game means no running game either.

It's not just the quarterback. I always say a franchise passer can cure your ills. But not here. We haven't seen either of these passers look like one of those, but even if they were there are still too many issues.

It starts with Mangini. He's too uptight. He plays the mind games that players hate.

At least he made this decision known on Wednesday this time, instead of playing that stupid game he played in Week 1 where he thought he was being smart not letting his decision out for competititve reasons.

Again, does it matter?

Bring back Bernie Kosar or Brian Sipe in their primes. The Browns wouldn't be good with them either. This team isn't good. The offense is awful.

How's that decision to bring in Mangini, Lerner? Just like many thought it would be.

Not good.

Your sad attempts of trying to get people to believe in DA didn't work in the Browns Message Board and it will not work here either. Derek Anderson threw 3 INTs last week.......he's not a starting QB in the NFL. He's a career back-up.

Browns QB: Does it matter?

I think the timing of the move has more to do with who the Browns are playing.  Let's not forget that Derek Anderson had his first start against the Bengals and torched them to start that pro bowl year.  Granted the personnel is different and the Coordinator is different, but a lot of it's the same as well.

The Browns are a mess, but historically, there's been no better cure than playing the Bengals, so why not give it a shot.  Besides, they had to do something, 29 points in three games calls for some sort of change.  Personally I think that keeping two potential starting Quarterbacks is a mistake.  The Raiders cut Jeff Garcia to avoid any thoughts that he would take the job from JaMarcus Russell.  What the Raiders got for that is a definitive he is not the guy.  The Browns will be going back and forth all season and still not know if either of them is the guy or not by the end of the season.

I don't think it was too tough preparing for Quinn and Anderson at the same time.  It's not like trying to prepare for Michael Vick and Dan Marino.  Both Browns QB's are basically the same...I could prepare for their game plan:

"OK, they are going to throw some short passes, occassionally throw one down the field (maybe 2 for DA), don't worry about the running game at all, throw a few blitz packages at them, bull rush the right side of the O line, pick up our win and then call it a Sunday."

Browns QB: Does it matter?

Anderson confirmed what we already knew about him last Sunday. He can't read a defense and he can't throw a pass accurately or on time. Occasionally he may have a great game, but he has shown no growth in the countless opportunities he has had to be a starting quarterback. But, like Prisco said, it does not matter.

hey dude...Manvagini or whatever your name is....dude why name a starting QB any week?..make the opposing team prepare for all or your QB's  hell carry 5 on your roster...that will take the other team 3 weeks to prepare for ya.....I mean it worked in week 1 right?....OH?..never mind........but in real life football.....NOT naming a starting QB might work in HS..maybe a tiny bit in college....but in the NFL?...they laugh at you dude.....they have 24/7 to prepare for your team and any QB on your roster..this aint college with a limited time to practice.....come on Man!

Was this phoned in to a transcriptionist?  It looks like a telegram, not a news article.  No matter - Pete's right. Top down, this organization is totally, 100% screwed up.

You'll eat those words this Sunday, Prisco.

Derek Anderson is for real.
