Why do NFL teams recycle?

There are so many good football men under the publicity surface that deserve chances to lead teams.

Yet after the news Thursday that Washington Redskins executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato had resigned comes the news that he will be replaced by Bruce Allen.

What?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Allen after the 2008 season.

So let me get this straight: Allen isn't good enough to work for the Bucs, but he's good enough for the Redskins and Dan Snyder?

What the Redskins should've done is hire a young, energetic, smart personnel man to turn things around, much like the Atlanta Falcons did with Thomas Dimitroff.

Hire a football junkie, a lifer.

Here's some names: Steve Keim, Arizona Cardinals, Eric DeCosta, Baltimore Ravens, Terry McDonough, Jacksonville Jaguars and Will Lewis, Seattle Seahawks.

All those men have spent time working their way up the scouting ladder. All deserve chances to work running a team.

Recycling is good for the environment.

It's not good when it comes to running NFL teams.

What 'Skins should've done

You have got to be the dumbest person on the earth if you think Vinny is worth a penny. As far as a coach not coaching in the NFL after coaching Washington can you say Norv Turner. The same Norv Turner that has San Diego on a roll right now. Dummy!!

bring back vinny

say what you want. but Vinny was embarrassed one time like this in 07 versus the patriots. but they did that to everyone that year and they were on the road. this is just too funny and appropriate for basically one of the 5 worst franchises in the NFL and maybe sports. Allen was hired to appease the fan onslaught of disgust over the management of this team. he fits Danny's marketing plan to a T. ties to the old owner, has been to to SB's. Decent track record, but Danny gave him the title of GM. Note: we said title.

Now he is in search of the highest priced, highest profile coach out there. Reason isn't winning, he has to save face and reinstill confidence from the paying fans that he is trying to win. Shanahan is the guy that fits this. however, he is being courted by many others and money won't be an issue. everyone knows its going to take $ to hire him. Chicago is going to be a player in this. he is getting 7 mil to sit on sidelines now, not sure i would want to restart/end my career in DC. every coach that has come here has never coached in the nfl again. never..tells you something..this place is career suicide. for more go to

Allen is a PR Move

The Fan Base has a long history and Bruce Allen is the bridge to reach back into the alienated fans.
Will it work? Who knows. But rebuilding good fan will is the reason.

What 'Skins should've done

ITrust me i too am not shy about my rantings about Snyder and the way he's run this team into the ground over the yearss...just look at my screen name and that should tell you how I feel about that troll, but I have to say that I am relieved Cerrato is gone and that's not to say I think Cerrato is to completely blame for all the Redskins ills over the last 10 years but i'm sorry the guy does not know how to build a team, but most of all he's not a guy that commands respect and I think that's what you need is a GM who commands respect in addition to having the drive to be a winner.   I think they could have done a lot worse then Bruce Allen as the guy does come with some credibility and credentials and appears to be at least in his first press conference confident about building a winning organization and that's something you never saw out of Cerrato during his reign here.  So Allen may not be an up and comer but I've got to believe he's better than Cerrato. If nothing else i don't have to look at Vinny's weasel faced mug anymore.

Yes it is really really arguable...  Just b/c it boasts three above average teams doesnt make it "good".  You could have argued it in years past, but get real man.

Look at the Buccaneers now. There are 1-12 and a complete mess! Why are they a mess? Its because Bruce Allen didn't upgrade that roster with much needed youth. Tampa Bay needed to draft a quarterback for the future after the '08 season. Jon Gruden didn't want to develop a young QB. Bruce Allen gave him a contract extension through 2011. He stuck with Gruden and it helped cost him his job. Alot of veterans had to be let go from Tampa Bay. Look at that defense, its bad! Remember this, he passed up on Adrian Peterson in the draft. He drafted Gaines Adams, who the Bucs traded to Chicago, because he hasn't played up to expectations. Since he wasn't going to draft a runnningback, he could of atleast trade up for Calvin Johnson. The Bucs still need a playmaker at wideout. Fixing his the mess he made is brutal! Rich Mckay left Tampa Bay after the 2003-04 season. Bruce Allen failed to upgraded the roster because he drafted poorly. Be afraid Redskins fans. Be very afraid!

Portis has been a really good back, and he never ran behind the"hogs."  Same boat as Campell if you ask me, great talent just not enough time to get things done due to a mediocre line.

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT SKINS FANS ARE NOT SEEING FROM JASON CAMPBELL. LOOK UP HIS STATS AND IT WILL SHOW HIS PRODUCTION IS IN THE TOP TEN OF ALL MAJOR STATISTICS. HOWEVER, I KNOW WIN IS WHAT REALLY COUNT. GIVE THE MAN A O-LINE TO WORK WITH AND THEN JUDGE HIM, I FEEL IF YOU LET HIM GO IT COULD BE LIKE LETTING DREW BREES GO FROM THE CHARGERS, WE WOULD WHIS WE HAD KEPT HIM. GETTING A BRADFORD, McCOY, OR CLAUSSEN IS SAYING WE ARE REBIULDING ARE YOU FANS TRULY READY FOR THAT? McCOY NEVER LINE UNDER CENTER! BRADFORD HAS A SHOULDER INJURY  THAT IS A CAUSE OF CONCERN, AND THE GAME HE DID PLAY THIS YEAR HE NEVER SHOW UP WITH LESS TALENT. CLAUSSEN HAS THE ARM STRENGHT BUT DECISION MAKING AND LEADERSHIP IS NOT THAT GREAT. WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS FOR EVERY MANNING, THERE'S A RUSSELL, LEAF, HARRINGTON, YOUNG, ECT,ECT,ECT.

Actually, Prisco, recycling isn't good for the environment either. Did you know each ton of recycled paper produced will prevent the existence of 74 trees?
