Jones will help Bengals

Matt Jones to the Cincinnati Bengals is a good move -- for both.

When Chris Henry got hurt, and then died when he fell out of a truck while on injured reserve, the Bengals lost their deep threat. They couldn't stretch a field last season, and their passing game suffered. Carson Palmer had no over-the-top threats.

Jones can be that guy. That's why the Bengals signed him to a 1-year deal Friday.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars, he never put in the work that was needed to be a quality receiver. That was tough when you are making the transition from college quarterback to receiver. Despite his less-than-enthusiastic approach to the game, Jones still put up some decent numbers.

He had 65 catches for 761 yards in 2008 before his off-the-field issues led the team to release him. Jones served a three-game suspension, and was not signed by a team last season.

Jones has the tools to help the Cincinnati offense. If he is focused, I think this is a good signing. Jones isn't a bad kid. He was just irresponsible as a young player. He didn't care.

If he cares, the Bengals will have some help for their passing game.

We are all honored by the presence of the Good-Person Triumv-irate:

Mr. No-Brain-In-Maine (AND his Band of Steroetypes),
Mr. 2-fisted bizzler (and his holy choir of should-be DUIs), and finally,
Mr. Digital Mumbo (or is that Migital Dumbo?) (Author of Only I Can Save Your Soul (Zealot Publ.)).
(HMM, Let me think about this, Mr. M., You believe people who do drugs are BAD PEOPLE, yet you worked in a rehab facility...). Could it be you USED to work there BECAUSE THE FRIGGIN' PLACE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS!!???

NOW, We will all bow at the alter of the New-Age Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Also enjoy the Cameo appearance of Mr. Not-so-sharper (joined by the "I can but you can't" singers), as he craps on us with his own perverse racism.

If you folks want to foist your self-aggrandising self-righteousness on everybody, I suggest you go into politics, and not in the world of sports, where you're obviously out of your league.

I LOVE the signing of Matt Jones to the Bengals. He appears to have adopted the necessary "shut up and play" mentality. The guy is big, fast, and smart (football-wise, anyway), and could be a perfect fit on a fine team.

Palmer has ALL the tools, Benson and Scott (seal the RB deal, boys!) look to be very strong, and the Bengals D is tough and young. With a few more pieces added to the puzzle, the Cincinnatti Bengals WILL be hard to handle.

Did you hear the one about the kid who got eight years in prison for having a joint? No, because that was before get tough on drugs.
Have a wonderful day. AND LIGHTEN UP. JEEZ

p.s. An NFL player's value is not wether he is a good person, but HOW MANY POINTS CAN HE SCORE FOR MY FANTASY TEAM!!!!!!

Racist bullshit. Every black guy who gets arrested like Marshawn Lynch is a thug and the white kid with cocaine "isn't a bad kid".  Unfrickin believable Prisco can get away with writing that.

From what I undersrtand he had more than one issue with alcohol or drugs and failed to follow thru on some his probation conditions, sounds like a meathead to me.

As desperate as the Bengals are for wide receivers Matt Jones is probably even more desperate to reestablish his NFL career. Last year proved that not many people are willing to give him a another chance. If he can't succeed in Cincy this year his NFL career is over and I'm certain that he doesn't have any off-field job lined up that will offer him anything close in pay.

Jones is a grown man, nothing in the past matters, now matters. He has another chance, it is his choice how he handles it. The rest of us will just have to wait and see.

I think Cincinatti needs to build a relapse center and halfway house near their stadium. Maybe a soup kitchen too.

man all of yall are retarded yeah he did cocaine he messed up but that doesn't make him a bad guy! i've got friends who do weed even one of my college soccer teamates do it but does that make him a bad guy?? heck no!! hes one of the coolest down to earth people you'll know and he makes straight a's in the classroom and on the field hes a hardworker! matt jones is a good guy always did good while he was my qb at arkansas i watched him for years and i have never seen someone as athletic and competitive as him. He always came out ready for games and was a beast every time he played he is my alltime favorite razorback qb. (i like mallet but i like dual threat qbs better mallet can't run everyone knows when he drops back he won't run) hes a 6"6 220 pound receiver who runs a 4.4 and if you throw the ball up he will come down with it every time i don't think their is one cb in the nfl that can outjump him! he messed up but hes still a good player and this is a huge pickup for the bengals and gives Palmer a huge athletic consistent target!

He has done a complete 180 and people will see a heck of a WR next year.LOL!  Yes, the lazy, spoiled, drug and alcohol abusing athlete has "done a complete 180."

Famous last words.  Predicting success for a guy who has never cared about teammates or even himself is pretty funny stuff.  Good luck with that.

Jones is a crapbag who has chosen to waste considerable physical skills.

And no, this country isn't "all about second chances".  But if it were, that wouldn't apply to Jones who's second chance would have come after he wouldn't practice, or maybe when he was benched for not running out plays.  Or maybe after getting caught in a car cutting cocaine with a credit card.  Or maybe after failing his drug test because he couldn't manage to golf without drinking even though he knew his livelihood depended on it.  Man, that's a lot of "second" chances.
