Robinson fits for Falcons

Posted on: March 5, 2010 12:57 am

The cornerback-needy Atlanta Falcons are expected to make a push to sign Houston Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson.

He is the top free-agent corner available and at 28 he is in the prime of his career.

The only problem is he's had some knee surgeries. Any team signing him would need to check him out physcially.

Robinson is from Georgia, but the need of the position and the medical will dictate whether the Falcons sign him -- not his hometown.

Robinson would help fill a major hole for the Falcons, who could then concentrate on other positions in the draft. They need corners to help against that New Orleans passing attack.

Robinson fits for Falcons

While over rated "some" might be an understatement, I'm just trying to make sure people get it out of their head that he's a top 5 or even top 10 CB. He wants to get paid like one, but someone who starts at CB for an entire season and finishes with ZERO ints should never be considered with the best. Hopefully the Falcons don't over pay too much for him. I really wish the Colts would pick him up...that way the Texans will have an easier time against them Wink

He is no where near the dominate corner he was before his injury.  He's doesn't break on the ball like he used to and he no longer has the speed to recover when he gets beat.  He's still fairly young, so maybe he can bounce back.  That being said, he'll probably still be an upgrade for the Falcons.

^  Ill give your ronbison might be overrated some, & probably will get more moey than he should, but the reality is that top tier cornerbacks are tough to come by. The market is thin & there are only 5 or so true 'shut down' corners in the league. Theres no question robinsion falls into the tier right below them. He has great cover skills, just isnt dominating at tackling. for a team like the falcons though ,slightly reaching and overpaying for an above average corner is still better than either using an average one or waiting for one to develop.

Robinson is over rated and is demanding way more money than he's worth. If the Falcons want to add a few missed tackles and at least 1 pass interference call per game then please, go ahead and sign him. He is good against the run, but that's about it.

Robinson fits for Falcons

Most mock drafts have the Falcons picking a cornerback at 19.  If they do sign Dunta Robinson and/or Bodden, I think there is a good chance they take an outside linebacker or even take the best available offensive player.  C.J. Spiller would look good in a Falcons uniform if he falls to 19.
