Boldin not a true No. 1

The Baltimore Ravens badly wanted a No. 1 receiver. Trading for Anquan Boldin might seem like the answer, but I beg to differ.

Boldin is not a No. 1 receiver. He doesn't run well enough. The Ravens, desperate to get a threat for young quarterback Joe Flacco, traded a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for Boldin and a fifth-round pick.

The Cardinals were willing to part with Boldin in part because they tired of his ways, and the team personnel department thinks Early Doucet is ready to take over as the third receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston. They also didn't think Boldin ran by anybody.

Boldin is a tough-guy receiver. He will break tackles after the catch, but if a team plays up on him in press coverage he has trouble getting past them.

The Ravens also gave Boldin a three-year contract extension, which should finally appease Boldin, who has constantly griped about his contract in Arizona the past couple of years.

Trading and paying is always risky. It's even more so with a receiver I don't think is a true No. 1.

Boldin not a true No. 1

Hey Pete,
I guess they'll let anyone with a keyboard run a blog page way to "write" yet another post that clearly articulates how little you know about football. We've went to the playoffs and won games the last two years with nothing close to the skill at WR we have now and for what amounts to a 3rd round pick, how's that risky. Boldin's a stud and without question the most talented receiver we've acquired since....well, ever. I'll circle back after Boldin makes the pro bowl that is unless CBS wises up and realizes your a hack

Boldin not a true No. 1

Are you kidding me?  Prisco's analysis is weak.  The Cards are stacked at WR, and Boldin did not like playing 2nd fiddle to Fitzgerald.  The Ravens gave up little to get a stud WR.  And he has been a stud each and every year he played.  The stats do not back up Prisco, and certainly the inspired play of Boldin is different than Prisco would have one believe.  If you liked Pro-Bowler Hines Ward's career, you have to think even more highly of Boldin.  Larry Fitzgerald he is not, and who is, but there are not many WRs in the league who are better.  And all of that adds up to the fact that he is a #1.

Boldin not a true No. 1

The Ravens did not overpay for Boldin at all, they paid him market value and actually to only have to give 10 mil guaraunteed is pretty reasonable. Boldin is a number one, he was before Fitzgerald and his numbers are incredible. Everyone knows Brandon Marshall is a better player with more upside then Boldin at this point, it is a fact, but the Ravens arent even allowed to sign him right now. None of our FA have been signed so our hands were tied. Now we can go corner or DE in the draft and round out the roster. I have no idea how you (as a Steeler fan) can say this is beneficial in any way to your team. What makes you more nervous? Boldin, Stallworth, and Mason or Mason, Clayton, and Wshington? I think you would be making a pretty rediculous statement if you said the 2nd option. Watch this video... and stop hating, see you in Pitt next year when your fans sell their tickets (lower level, row 1) to me, again...

Boldin not a true No. 1

Prisco off the mark again! Ravens get a veteran tough guy receiver which helps Flaco and Heap.

Boldin not a true No. 1

Really....well maybe not but maybe so, only time will tell. Although I was curious to look at the Boldin bandwagon when as a low draft pick he explode for over 200 yards in his first game. Boldin reached 1000 yards in two seasons in which he missed significant time due to injury, and yet he's not good enough to be a number 1. Ha; let's see, broken jaw and came back to play after 3 games. I wonder what stick man Fitzgerald would have done in the same situation. I like Fitz, he is a great receiver but stop judging another player based on the fact that a new receiver became the darling of the offense. Yes Boldin gets hurt a lot , but he puts it all out for his team, contract blah, blah there would not be a problem if the management would not have promised him a new deal. Even Arizona management admits that he is a stellar leader in the locker room??????? but he is a prima donna for wanting management to backup their promises. A lot of great receivers’ never had blazing speed but that quality called football speed, and Boldin has that in spades or he would not have been able to catch so many balls or get yards after the catch either. When all's said and done this year will come and go and Boldin will either have a great season or a bad one and the only impact from this story will be that Prisco gets to keep his job by putting out a marshmallow story and let people like me post to fill in the substance making his boss think he is a "thought" provoking journalist. Your welcome Pete, remember me at YOUR HOF induction.

Does Prisco even follow football

Boldin is the fastest ever to 500 catches and was the fifth fastest ever to 7,000 receiving yards.  He isn't the deep threat of Fitzgerald, but was a probowler in 2008 and still got 1000 yards hurt last year.  He is a top 20 wideout, maybe even top 15 or 10, how is that not a number 1 wideout.  If he thinks they overpaid he can say that but not to call a guy who has made the probowl 2 of the last 4 years a number 1 wideout is just stupid.

Boldin not a true No. 1

Being a diehard Bengal fan ,  i hate seeing Bolden going to Baltimore ,hope Prisco is right ,but i fear Bolden is just what Flacco and The Ravens need to reach the next level.

Boldin not a true No. 1

Boldin had 101 catches, 1377 yards and 7 tds in his rookie year, before Fitzgerald was there, before ANYONE was there!  He was the only option on the team and he was unstoppable.

But he's not a #1.  STUPID!
