Rams have to take Bradford

Best pro-day workout ever.

That's what some NFL scouts were saying after Sam Bradford threw Monday. The University of Oklahoma quarterback proved that he's over his shoulder troubles and should be the No. 1 overall pick in next month's draft.

But the pro-day workout shouldn't be the reason the St. Louis Rams take him first overall.

What should be is that he's an accurate, big, strong passer who understands the passing game.

Watch his tape.

He's precision-sharp and reads the field.

If Tim Tebow could read the field half as well as Bradford does, he'd be a sure-fire first-round pick -- even in my book.

One personnel director told me Bradford is the most-accurate passer to come into the draft in the past 10 years. At the scouting combine in February, some were debating whether he should be the top pick.

I never did. There was no debate. Quarterbacks win Super Bowls. Not defensive tackles.

What Bradford did Monday was prove that his surgically repaired shoulder isn't an issue.

What he proved on the playing field is that he will be a great NFL passer. Yes, I said great.

Ryan Leaf ring a bell?

What about him? Biggest bust in the history of the Nfl. (Reggie Bust being the most overhyped) Nice comparison ekimyam
Hindsight is always 20/20.  BEFORE the draft, Leaf was touted as better than Manning by a good number of the scouts.  Which gets back to my original point...the scouts can be (and often have been) wrong...thus they could be wrong about Bradford.

Rams have to take Bradford-Not Really!

No, no they do not have to take Bradford.  Did he not have arm problems?

Not to mention that many peeps believe you biuld a team from the inside out.  Not sure there is a "franchise" QB in the draft...I say they take Suh.

Rams have to take Bradford

I have been a rams fan for a long time and this is something they need to do granted prisco is the worst at his job but he is right about the rams, i just joined the community but I've been reading stories for a while about the rams about how bad they are but rarely do i ever read about why they were bad and its injuries left and right they have the worst track record when it comes to that. Week in and week out they've had at least 25 - 30 players on the injury report with at least half of them being starters... ok maybe 75% and they still fought hard even though their record doesn't justifiy that. Now think about this they had several game in which they lost by 10 or less points, 4 in which was by 7 or less, and 3 that were by a field goal or less ex.. Washington 7-9, Jacksonville 20-23, New Orleans 23-28, Houston 13-16, and thats because their offense sucks failing to put up any points hell their best game was against New Orleans. If they had a healthy team and I mean offense and a QB who isn't scared half the time they would've been a .500 team but I think Spags and BD know what they are doing by signing key players for depth just in case they catch the bug again next year Feeley ( I always hated this guy ) Robbins and Dockery and Fraley. Watching their games the rams need somebody that is confident in throwing the ball and Sam fits that bill read about yesterday with him yea Suh is a can't miss guy but they need a qb sjax 39 can't do it by himself and looking at their games if they had a offense that actually stay on the field most of the time instead of going 3 and out 50% of the time their defense would actually look good. They drafted linemen for the last 3 yrs and signed some key players they need to take a different route and go qb the offensive line is intact LT Barron LG J.Bell C. Brown RG Greco RT Smith with alot of potiental and their Defense is decent compared to others teams LE Long DT Carriker DT Robbins DT Ryan DT Scott RE J.Hall, V.Adeyanju, Ah You, They  probably can draft a player that can start on the right side in later rounds but QB is something they need look who is on the Roster Bulger, Null, Reilly, Feeley a bunch of no names and players that suck. GET BRADFORD HE IS OUR BEST CHANCE OF GOING AT LEAST 8-8 hell the way the divison looks we might do better than that

The Rams need alot of help no question. I personally think that if they do get Sam Bradford they need to sign T.O and attempt to get Dez Bryant if he slips far enough. This will help take some of the pressure of the offensive line. Then they work on getting o lineman in the later rounds. This will help make the team a competitor. They need to do something drastic and in an uncapped season they need to make some serious pickups to have a chance.

The Colts were terrible before they drafted manning, Saints were terrible before Brees.  Falcons were terrible before Ryan.  The rest of the team can develop over time, grab a franchise quarterback when you can and let him grow.  I dont agree with the theory that you should only take a QB when the rest of your team is good.  You get a quality passer when you can.

Prisco, everyone knows you jock quarterbacks. It is seriously tiring. Never mind the fact that 7 of the last 10 Super Bowl champions finished in the top 10 in defense or that 4 finished #1. The only three that did not finish in the top 10 were the Colts (who came up short for years with the best QB in the game until they vastly improved their defense), the Giants (who clearly won their Super Bowl based on the strength of their hot defense), and the Saints (who were mediocre the previous season and got to be Super Bowl caliber largely because they upgraded their defense and d coordinator). It is not groundbreaking to suggest that QB is an important position, it obviously is, but you can drop the nonsense about defense not winning championships.

If QBs win championships why is a 9 time Pro Bowler and multiple MVP just 1-1 in the Super Bowl in an 11 year career? Why did Manning not even make it to the Super Bowl in his best season? Why did Brady and his record setting offense lose the Super Bowl to a vastly inferior offensive squad? I could go on.

Hate to defend Prisco...but he's right on this one. The NFL is a QB's league at this point. St. Louis passed on multiple "QB's of the future" and have been hurting because of it. In your own arguement you state "the Pats may not have won the SB with a different QB"...and you're right. Philadelphia is a perfect example for you also. Not only did their defense NOT win the SuperBowl against New England, but also it was McNabb alone who lost it for them. Multiple INTs in a SuperBowl = LOSS. The Rams, like so many teams, need a lot of work but QB is the most important to one to fill...especially when a player like Bradford is there for the picking.

I agree with you 110%.  The rams are bad.  They do need a qb, but they also need A LOT of other help.  I say trade the number one pick.  If they could get one of the teams with 2 first round picks to trade that and a player that would be there best choice.  They need help at all positions.  They need to max out the number of picks they can get and pick up the best player on the board for each of their picks cause lets face it they SUCK.

Look at what the Dolphins did after they went 1-15.  They didn't take the "sexy" pick.  They went with Jake Long to build a much hurting o-line.  Then they picked up other safe picks that would help them along the way.  They took Chad Henne in the second round and I know he will be better than Bradford.  And with some luck with Tom Brady getting hurt they beat out the jets, bills, and patriots and won the east.

Take a look at what the Dolphins did.  It works.  And if you don't believe me look at the Lions and Raiders

Rams have to take Bradford

The Rams have used high picks on defensive "studs" the past two years, and the team itself has only regressed throughout this time period. Time for a change. They need a fresh start at the QB position.
