Rooney's Rule

Don't cross the Rooneys in Pittsburgh.

That's the message sent loud and clear by the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night when they traded receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick.

Holmes has had his share of troubles with the Steelers, the latest a club incident in which he is accused of throwing a glass at a woman's face. He is also facing a four-game suspension by the league, according to a report by Pro Football Talk.

The Steelers hate that kind of behavior, which is why Holmes was probably traded. Let's face it -- he's their best receiver. So give the Rooney family, which owns the Steelers, credit for sticking with their ideals that character matters.

But does it matter when the quarterback is the guy in trouble? We shall see. Even though reports say Ben Roethlisberger will not be charged for the recent Georgia incident involving a woman and a potential assault charge, he is guilty of stupidity for putting himself in that position. How do the Rooneys handle that one?

As for this trade, the Jets now have a second receiver to go with Braylon Edwards and they got him at a cheap price. Holmes isn't a major problem, so this could be a good deal for the Jets.

The Steelers are left with Hines Ward and Mike Wallace as starters and veterans Arnaz Battle and Antwaan Randle El as backups. Losing Holmes hurts, which is why this seems like a Rooney-mandated deal.

Rooney's Rule

Screw the Jets! You guys can have all these criminals on your team. Football is a team game and with crappy personalities like Holmes, Edwards, Cromartie you guys won't do dick this year. By the way Hines Ward is arguably our best WR and Mike Wallace's hands are 100 times better than Holmes. Good luck with this dope!

you got a 5th rounder because he is an idiot who is not only in trouble but is completely retarded... He is under contract for only 12 more games because of the suspension.. The Steelers are not going to pay him #1 WR money so he was gone anyways and everyone already knew that so better to get a 5th than nothing. After his last incident in the night club, he also tweeted about waking and baking.... I'm not sure about any of you, but if I knew I was already in trouble and everyone could follow my twitter account, I would not talk about smoking weed over twitter...... The Jets put themselves in very good position here because they have the WR's to cover for Holmes absence in Cotch and Braylon and then when Holmes returns, they can sit Cotch down in the slot and kill teams with their nasty O line, WR's and backs. If Sanchez can put it together in year 2, the Jets could be the team to beat in the AFC.

Rooney's Rule

I'm first and foremost a life long Dallas Cowboys fan... I also watch the NFL games every Sunday with a lifelong Pittsburgh Steeler fan and as a result have grown to lrespect and even somewhat the Steelers... as long as they remain in the AFC of course! No one can legitimately knock the Steelers for the they handle trouble and malcontent players as they simply get rid of 'em. I do agree that a firth round pick is a redicluously lousy pick for a player of Santonio Holmes value but that's the way Dan Rooney rolls with HIS franchise and make no mistake... it is HIS fanchise.

How they handle Ben Roethlisberger is going to be very, very interesting as the guy certainly has an abundance of talent on the field but is clearly a colossal Moron off the field!

Rooney's Rule

I can see the headlines now.......Edwards, Holmes and Cromartie indicted on gun charges, being drunk in public, throwing Champagne bottles, knocking up more women than Wilt ever slept with, lewdness and just plain stupidity.....New Dork finally has the 3 stooges on their team.........."it took some work and patience, but we pulled it off" says a brimming Rex Ryan.........this is going to bite them right in the KEISTER!

Could this mean Brandon Marshall to Pittsburgh draft day?? He stated wants to play there and is from Pittsburgh. I agree with the Holmes decision but a 5th round pick.........that's pathetic dealing from the Steelers, giving away talent like that.

Rooney's Rule

The Jets have a newly acquired sub par #1, please don't refer to Edwards and Cotchery as #1's. If Edwards has another year like last year he will be out of the league! You can't drop that many passes and expect your team to trust you enough to throw it to you.

Rooney's Rule

I'm not sure how allegedly throwing a drink at someone is "crossing the Rooney's", unless he threw a drink at a Rooney.

Everyone knows the Steelers run a squeaky clean organization with the twice accused Big Ben leading the offense and domestic violence charged James Harrison running the defense. Give me a break. The Steelers drafted Holmes in the first round knowing about whatever problems he had in Columbus.

Or it could have said "The Steelers are NOT the Bengals" If Ben continues to have issues he will be gone too. Holmes has a long line of issues that will not go away. It is about time they made this PAINFUL decision. Holmes is a ghetto punk that can't break away from his roots. Forget the past Buckeye, this is a what have you done lately game and the answer to the question is continue to glorify smoking pot and being a punk. PARTY ON HOLMES, GODDELL IS WATCHING!

Rooney's Rule

How the article should have read was; "If you're not a franchise quarterback don't cross the Rooney's, because they will trade you at the drop of a hat no matter what you have done for them in the past."
