Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Jason Taylor to the New York Jets?

Didn't we say he was a shell of himself two years ago when the Washington Redskins traded to get him?

Don't get caught up in the name.

Taylor isn't very good anymore.

The Taylor that was among the sack leaders earlier this decade isn't around anymore. What we have now is a player who might be able to get five or six sacks. That's it.

The Jets paid him a reported two-year deal that is essentially a one-year deal for $3.75 million. The price isn't bad, but he isn't even worth that.

What's this move say about Vernon Gholston, the linebacker the Jets drafted two years ago in the first round? He's been a flop, but the Jets have talked him up some this off-season.

If Taylor is a playing over Gholston, let's just lay it out there. Gholston would be a full-fledged bust.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Prisco, I have read your articles for years and never made a comment but enough is enough... you are ALWAYS negative about the Jets. Are you a Pats fan?
Seems to always favor the Colts.

The fact is JT does not have to carry the Jets defense in any way but he can still improve it, making this a great signing for the Jets.
I agree the signing of LT will not hurt the Jets and can only help but this is not a great signing by any means.

By the way, Taylor was still 23rd in the league last year in sacks with 7 (9th best for linebackers behind Calvin Pace),
23rd in the league is not something to brag about.

had an interception and 3 forced fumbles
Not bad, but not great.

one which he recovered for a TD.
The TD was a product of the play

Now, he gets to play with lock down corners,
Come on...You have 1 lock down corner..Cromartie was burned several times last year..most notably by the Raiders last year. Cromartie is far from a lock down corner which is one of the reasons why he was traded.

in a more dynamic scheme that has several guys that can get to the QB. Baring injury, he should have a great year
I think your over estimating how much the Jets are going to use him this early in the year.

and the only way you could come up with the junk you write is to be biased against either the Jets or JT from sqaure one.
While I do not always see eye to eye with Prisco he has a point. JT is older and is definatly not the player he use to be. He may or may not help at all. In Prisco's opinion, what he gets paid to write about, he feels this is a none event move by the Jets and he has a very good chance at being right about that. No one knows what JT will bring to the table except that he is a year older and a year slower.

As far as Gholston is concerned, he is a bust for the Jets system but will likely be effecive as an end in a 4-3 scheme elswhere which means whith him replaced by JT ... they will move Gholston and he will still draw some interest based on his raw talent/ability.Likely be effective as an end in a 4-3 scheme...and you drew this conclusion based on what?? Not on his past performance, so what leads you to believe this. I don't think his raw talent/ablility will draw interest otherwise the Jets would not be trying to talk him up. Beside what team in their right mind will offer anything for this bum when every team knows they can get equal value in the draft or wait until he is released.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

you can have the "broom" every year we make it to the AFC Championship and you miss the playoffs.  Was it really THAT satisfying?

Of course, if another team had signed him, Prisco would say "great pick-up."  He is in fact a confirmed Jet-hater and loves to dispute every move the Jets make.  Precisely the reason I don't take seriously any of Prisco's commentary as regards the Jets.  Not worth the aggravation to get worked up over another foolish little article like this.  Taylor can play, or the Jets wouldn;t have signed him.  This Jet adminstation knows what it's doing (finally!)

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

I get it now... just read Prisco's Bio... he was born on the Island of the Strong and left (or was possibly exiled, who knows???)... got stuck going to HS in..you guessed it FLORIDA... was too small to play sports (lol) and now covers Florida sports.  The bitterness all makes sense.  I would be pissed too.

Hey Billy it would be impossible for this moron to be dumber than he looks..

Taylor is going to be hard to root for as a Jets fan but if he gets to the QB than its all good..

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Thank you Redwing.

I am not a Jets fan however, I do live in New York (Brooklyn) and while the talk might not be on a daily basis, both the radio and news papers all have quotes from the Jets about the high hopes for Gholston this year and how they like his work ethic and how he has matured. It was kinda funny that the Jets were doing this especially when the guy has been nothing short of bad on the field.

Signing JT can be any worse then what they have so why not. Beside, the Jets should be drafting a defensive player which JT might be able to help progress, unlike Gholston.
