Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Posted on: April 20, 2010 4:30 pm

Jason Taylor to the New York Jets?

Didn't we say he was a shell of himself two years ago when the Washington Redskins traded to get him?

Don't get caught up in the name.

Taylor isn't very good anymore.

The Taylor that was among the sack leaders earlier this decade isn't around anymore. What we have now is a player who might be able to get five or six sacks. That's it.

The Jets paid him a reported two-year deal that is essentially a one-year deal for $3.75 million. The price isn't bad, but he isn't even worth that.

What's this move say about Vernon Gholston, the linebacker the Jets drafted two years ago in the first round? He's been a flop, but the Jets have talked him up some this off-season.

If Taylor is a playing over Gholston, let's just lay it out there. Gholston would be a full-fledged bust.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Not sure whether JT is or is not washed up but a couple of questions arise:

Why were the jets the only team that spoke to Taylor? Why is the contract heavily incentive laden? Would the Dolphins let him go if he could help bolster the 25th ranked defense last year that he was a part of? We'll see. As far as Prisco being a jet hater though, in his defense, it's not very hard to hate a jet fan.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

I think it is already known that Gholston is considered a bust.  But thanks for this breaking news from Prisco.  I'd be pretty happy if Taylor gets 7 sacks again.  They didn't give up anything to get Taylor and this is an uncapped year so it's pretty much a no brainer to give this a shot.

I'm thinking Prisco is getting desparate to write something so his name gets out there.  Maybe I should just go back to ESPN.COM OR CNNSI.COM where they have REAL breaking news about the world of sports.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

The Jets have been "talking up" Vernon Gholston this off-season? Where? I am a die hard fan and I haven't seen one article, coach, player, etc. talking up Vernon Gholston

"I think it is a matter of time before we start seeing this young man really do some things for us", said Ryan
I think this young man deserves a better chance than we are giving him. We need to give him more playing time
"The attributes of why we drafted him is what gives me hope there which is really a great work ethic"
Those are all Ryan's comments above.  I'm not a Jets fan, let alone a diehard fan as you claim to be yet I can find this stuff in literally 3 minutes tops......

Before you jump down a writer's throat you should read a little and research.

The guy hasn't had a sack in 29 games?  Don't care if he's started many.... even a lousy player gets the odd sack,, 1 or 2 in a year.... c'mon.

They are high on him and they are going to play him MORE now... he's not going to be buried behind anybody.

Prisco Is 100% Correct

Everyone talks about Prisco when he's wrong, but this time he's right.  He is too old.  He doesn't have the speed or strength he once had.

5-6 sacks isn't bad for a part-timer but its not worth $4 mill.  And that's all the guy will get.

The Jets success depends on Sanchez.  If he completes 50% of his passes again with 20 ints, they're not going to win anything.  Ryan can pick up all the bustouts he wants, but Sanchez is the key.  He'll have a little better year than last year, and that won't be enough.

DID JT Wrong you somewhere?

You've been hating on this guy for YEARSSSS!!!!  YEARS.... i mean, did he deny you interviews, pick you last in kickball, sleep with your xgirlfriend? I know you are im Florida so you may have some hatred for him since he's in the area and maybe in your mind ,oversaturated with him, but the guy is a NFL Defensive player of the year, NFL Man of the year, Perennial Pro bowler, and active all time sack leader... Last i checked had 7 sacks as a strong side linebacker.

Dont be so obvious with your bias. Its not flattering to your columns.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

It's a blog. It's supposed to be opinionated. I just think the Jets are reaching on these moves they keep making. You can't gaurentee that LT, JT or Holmes (who won't play a whole season) are going to be sure fire big time players. I like the Cromartie move. That D is even scarier after that move. But, Prisco is right. That is too much money for Taylor. His best is about 3-4 years behind him. 12 sacks!!! Come on Butterball. You'd be closer if you were to predict you were gonna lose 12 pounds this year. You could use it.

Hey PP could you be any more biased?

PP is a Jet hater and a Fin Fan and his feelings are transparent.  Why CBS keeps him is a mystery.  The Jets havent given up on Gholston just yet though his time to shine is dwindling.  He may yet be a Bryan Thomas or Calvin Pace type of player that takes time to "get it" and be a serviceable pro but he will never fullfill his draft position selection.  We will see.  Funny- PP hasnt mentioned the Ted Ginn bust -that guy was traded for loose change. Or the signing of "washed up" Tory Holt by the Patriots a year after the great Joey Galloway signing.  why didnt he write that Taylor was "washed up" last year when the Dolphins re signed him a year after he wrote that he was washed up when the Redskins signed him?  How about some fair and objective reporting Pete?  My money is on Rex to make this work and get six to ten sacks from Taylor in a situational pash rushing role.

Hey, Prisco, You"re a Tool!

So you think Jason Taylor is a bad move and Vernon Gholston is a bust. I agree on Gholston, Taylor remains to be seen, but I've got to ask, do you get paid by how many people react to you, I mean, all that's missing is Nah nah na nah nah, are you just trying to get a rise out of Jets fans. I expect the jackhole behavior from some bum posting but you call yourself a professional, there's 152 words but your're not saying much.

Of course the Jets talked Gholston up, if they wanted to trade him would they talk him down? And if he is a bust, so what? Should I hang my head in shame, every team has them. There are still moves to be made and the draft this week. I suppose that any move that does no work out will be pointed out by you, unless of course you get an offer to go to some teams war room and help guide them in their picks with your laser like insight. I'm happy with most of the Jets moves, even Taylor, just for the torment it represents to Dolphin fans. Every team has it's busts, even CBS, I won't mention any names, but his initials are Pete Prisco.
