Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Jason Taylor to the New York Jets?

Didn't we say he was a shell of himself two years ago when the Washington Redskins traded to get him?

Don't get caught up in the name.

Taylor isn't very good anymore.

The Taylor that was among the sack leaders earlier this decade isn't around anymore. What we have now is a player who might be able to get five or six sacks. That's it.

The Jets paid him a reported two-year deal that is essentially a one-year deal for $3.75 million. The price isn't bad, but he isn't even worth that.

What's this move say about Vernon Gholston, the linebacker the Jets drafted two years ago in the first round? He's been a flop, but the Jets have talked him up some this off-season.

If Taylor is a playing over Gholston, let's just lay it out there. Gholston would be a full-fledged bust.

Taylor is a trader. That money is ludacrious. After all he is joining the "ignorant" Jets. He's jockeying for Tiki's position on the Today show. If he has one more seaon with 5-10 sacks as a Dolphin, he one day goes in to their Hall-of-Fame, at least. Now the Dolphins have to say , "Hey, you we're good for us. But, our teams never won much. You decided to end your career with Buddy Jr. and the Jets." The Jets are trying to hard.

Yeah...I guess those dominant Jets have been making all those trips to the Super Bowl over the last 42 years (ZERO), it makes sense that that's the obvious place to go to get there. OR NOT.

Wait a minute Pete Prisco sucks and CBS still keeps him around just a shell of being not a has been but a never was. Prisco and Clark Judge both figured that JT would never go to the JETS.Even though I hate him I understand him wanting to get a shot at the Super Bowl which he would never get with the Fish. GO JETS.

Farmer Ted, to be washed up, you would have to have been something good before that. Prisco isn't a wannabe, but rather a neverwas. He's also an anti-Jetite.

Taylor had 7 sacks last year. He'll be used in about 15 plays a game and Ryan is banking on one of those plays being a big sack late to end a drive and close out a game.

I hate Taylor with a passion, but knowing he's going to cheese off Dolphin fans having to watch him beat their team twice this year wearing Jet green is sweet. Also how bad are they going to feel when they see their former hero winning a Super bowl with their hated enemy?

Prisco is a loser. Maybe he's a Dolphin fan.

As a lifelong Fins fan, I'm a little sad to see JT going to the Jets, but I'm not feeling we're going to miss him much. If you weren't paying attention, we got Mike Nolan in the offseason to coach the defense, so there probably wont be much in the way of "secrets" that JT will be able to give. We actually have some depth at outside linebacker (Starks, Wade, etc...) and a previous poster was right when he said that JT was out of position there. I'm sure he'll get some sacks (5 - 8) in the Jets blitz happy D, and he'll provide some depth, but I just don't think the Fins were too interested in bringing him back. We'll get Williams (DT) or McClain in the first round and move forward. Good luck in NY, JT, and I look forward to you being in the HOF (maybe) in a Dolphins helmet.....and good luck dealing with Mr. Long when we play you!

The Jets did not give up a second round pick and sign JT to a big contract. He was obtained for nothing at a very modest price. There is no way it could turn out to be a bad move.
no it isn't a bad move, but it isn't a great one. This is one of those low risk, high reward type of deals. If he plays like he did before the trade to Washington, great move, if not, he will be let go. I personally see him getting 7 sacks and that's it. Ryan's a good coach, but Taylor's lost a step, he's not washed up, but he's not a great pass rusher like he was.
Again, Gholston is not being talked up.
whoever thinks he's being talked up, needs to wake up, the Jets have gave up on him it seems and may release him and maybe a team like Carolina will sign him in a low risk/high reward type of deal.

If he doesn't play well they can bench or cut him and what have they lost? It's not like he will be taking time from the other young DEs on the team (they don't have any). He replaces Marques Douglas and upgrades the pass rush.

Again, Gholston is not being talked up. The tape is already out there. There is no way another team will bite unless he actually makes a play. Jet fans and coaches alike would love for Vernon to emerge and taking over Bryan Thomas' starting spot but the chances of that happening are slim and none. He was given ample opportunity last year and was invisible. Unless he gets a brain transplant he will be out of the NFL in two years.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

I'm sure the Jets intend to get their money's worth out of Taylor during the two weeks they game-plan for the Dolphins this year.

As for Gholston, you can read it one of two ways.  Either they are talking him up mostly to see if they can generate some trade value to unload the guy, or else they see him as manning the position much of the time... after all, it's unlikely that they plan to leave Taylor out there to take 90% of the snaps at this stage of his career.  Signing a guy in the twilight of his career away from a division rival does not imply having given up on a current player (though admittedly, Gholston hasn't done much up to now).

BLaZeD, Prisco isn't a Jet hater, He's not on the Jason Taylor fan club list. Two years ago, i was in the same situation the Jet fans were, having their team bashed for trading for Jason Taylor and it turned out to be a BAD move. He's not washed up, but he's not as good as he was.

Hey, Jets: Jason Taylor is washed up

Prisco is a jet hater don't mind him .... i hate jason taylor but we have no other defensive ends .. put him on the outside and jenkins and pouha playing defensive tackle i think it will work out... either way its another weapon other teams have to look out for ... remember bart scott, david harris, and calvin pace  play linebackers and we have two shut down corners i think he will have plenty of time to get to the quaterback ... this team has weapons all around and the jets will be drafting a pass rusher so prisco shut your mouth i think its time for you to stop writing articles
