Stiff suspension for Ben

Posted on: April 21, 2010 1:09 pm

Ben Roethlisberger's suspension for four-to-six games is about right. But you have to wonder how the league will sell this one to the NFL Players Association.

After all, he hasn't been charged with anything, except being stupid.

There were no formal charges in either case of alleged sexual misconduct against Roethlisberger. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is free by the laws of the land, even if he isn't by the rules of the NFL.

For that reason, I thought the league would allow the Steelers to handle the suspension of their quarterback.

As it is, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is ready to slap the suspension on Roethlisberger for violating the league's conduct code.

I understand it. But at the core, other than stupidity, why is he being suspended? There wasn't even arrest. What he did is deplorable -- if true -- but who can prove it true without a court case.

Essentially he is being suspended for drinking with girls in a bar. If that's the case, most of the NFL should sit out four games.

The suspension is bad news for Steelers fans. They will have to play a quarter of the season, unless the suspension is reduced, without their two-time winning Super Bowl quarterback.

The winner in this is Byron Leftwich.

The Steelers traded a seventh-round pick to Tampa Bay Tuesday to get Leftwich, who was the backup to Roethlisberger for the 2008 season.

He knows the offense. The players in the locker room like him. He will be fine.
As for Roethlisberger, here's hoping losing a quarter of his pay and hurting his teammates helps change him.

I doubt it will.

Let's Suspend Prisco For Bad Math

Prisco, 6 games is not a quarter of the season.  A quarter is 25%.  6/16 is 37.5%.  Not even that close really.

And don't try to say that you meant 4 games as the quarter of a season, because you even said "it will be a quarter unless it is reduced."  4 games IS the reduced version, so it can't be reduced anymore after 4.  It's 6, unless he is on tremendous behavior, THEN it may be reduced to 4.

The Steelers are lucky that their schedule is not ridiculously tough.  I think they can go 3-3 without Ben during that stretch.

Stiff suspension for Ben

I totally agree, Goodell just opened Pandora's box to this happening more and more especially come playoff time.  Good job Goodell the NFL is officially a joke now.  I wonder how much money it will take to pay a woman to cry rape?  Will I get a discount if the woman already hates the player I want targeted?  Does anyone think the sports books already aren't thinking about this?  How naive.

He needs to be fired and sent over to China where his idea's of control will be fully embraced.  And for those that think this was a just suspension, you seriously need to sit down with a copy of our constitution and read it, also anything that Thomas Jefferson ever wrote couldn't hurt either.

ahhh  mike,  Ben was not charged with rape.  He did nothing wrong other then pay for drinks to 20 year olds.   geez 18 was the legal age for drinking not too long ago and Godell suspends him for it?  wow.  I think Rodger Godell should be fired. He is the biggest moron of all time.  Oh and mike you are both a l oser and an i diot.

Most of the people on these boards are l- oser i- diots.  They talk s- hit about everything, but if it happened to THEM, oh no!!!  The shoes not on their foot, so they could care less.

If Ben s- crewed their wife or daughter, that wouldn't be right.  Where's my lawyer?  If they were discriminated against and certain jobs they were not allowed to get, that's not right.  Where's my lawyer?

But if this happens to anyone else, they could care less.  When someone rapes one of your loved ones, or you're discriminated against, robbed or cheated, don't complain.  Don't say anything when it happens to you.  Anyone can do what they want in this world.  It's a free country.  But when you get the stick up YOUR a- ss, bend over and let it go in deeper...  You deserve it.

Do they have to put "keep you d- ick in your pants when in public" in these a- sshole's conrtracts?  What's this world coming too.

What came first, the cicken or the egg?

If this fool would keep his d- ick in his panrts, there's no story.  Leave Goodell alone and focus on the problem.  THE ONLY problem.  The Fool Rothlessloser who can't keep his d- ick in his pants and gets charged with rape every year.  Loser.  He's the fool and you losers blame Goodel.  Maybe Ben will trap one of your daughters in a bar bathroom.  You'll be singing a differnet tune then...

you're an idiot.  Read the US constitution???  Maybe you should run the league.  When half the guys are cracked out, raping women every week, etc. because anyone can do whatever they want, and the league goes from $50 billion value to out of business like the Big Three did, then maybe things will be better.

All he has to lookat is his contract.  His conduct is detrimental to the league.  You're not the one getting 200,000 emails, 100,000 phone calss and threats from every women's group in the WORLD!  Is this worth it because one loser can't keep his d- ick in his pants.  No.  And no one will put up with this in any sport.

Stiff suspension for Ben

He WAS NOT suspended for drinking with girls at a bar.  The alleged victim was hammered and she and her parents knew she'd be dragged thru the mud and Big Ben with his high priced lawyers would come out looking like a champ, or a pimp.  Im glad Goodell did what he did.  maybe celebs and their cop entourages will think twice when they date rape an underage comatose girl in a bathroom stall.  Make no mistake, Ben did something wrong here, no one can prove it... certainly not against a 1000 dollar an hour atty.  Just because our legal system has holes doesnt mean Goodell has to ignore the truth and neither should those thugs' captains back home in PA.
