Willis agrees to extension

Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers is arguably the best middle/inside linebacker in the NFL.

He's now also one of the richest.

Willis agreed to a five-year, $50-million contract extension Tuesday. Willis had two years left on his deal.

Willis went to the Pro Bowl in two of his first three seasons, making him one of the bright young stars of the game.

With Ray Lewis getting up in the years, Willis has taken over the title of the best inside/middle linebacker in the league.

Willis agrees to extension

As I commented earlier on Goldpanther4 post, you could have a case for two (or three) MLB in the NFL that are competing for the top spot, and for me those are J. Beason and D. Ryans, and you have to include Ray Lewis. You also have players like Urlacher CHI, Farrior PIT, B. Ruud TB, Crowder MIA and other young LB's in the NFL, but those players are not playing in the same level as the first three I mentioned in my opinion.  The incredible thing is that Willis, Beason and Ryans are only starting their NFL careers and already playing at this level; the sky is the limit for this kids!

As a Texans fan, I'd like to get your opinion of how you think D'Meco Ryans stacks up with P.Willis and J.Beason.  At the very least, with Beast Cushing, the Texans can probably boast best 4-3 LB corp in the league.  All that said, I was clammoring for us to take Willis over Okoye when we drafted at 10.  I guess the brass in charge didn't want to tie up that much cash at LB and have to move D'Meco back to SAM.

Learn how to spell first. And it's Ray Lewis, not Levin. Otherwise, nice email.

Next Up

The 2007 NFL draft has the possibility to yield two of the best linebackers of all-time when it's all said and done.  Jon Beason and Patrick Willis are by far the two best young inside linebackers in football today.  The two of them have fought it out for Pro Bowl spots and All-Pro spots since being drafted.  They both wear #52 and embody what Ray Lewis has brought to the middle.  It will surely be interesting to watch these two young guys battle it out for years to come.  The first time they played each other Beason's team won.  Willis gets a rematch this year and it should be fun to watch.

Willis is WORTH IT

For one of the few times in years, I actually agree with Prisco on this blog entry. Patrick Willis is the best ILB playing today and Ray Lewis is likely a solid #2 still after all of the seasons under his belt. Willis deserved this contract and should be a monster in the middle for SF and will rack up numbers providing he states healthy.

GOLDPANTHER -No offense, but if you really believe there are a dozen MLB's in the NFL better than Patrick Willis, then you are not watching the same game as the rest of is.  Either you're a young kid who's in denial, or you have no clue what you're talking about.  Patrick Willis is THE best MLB in the NFL right now.  It's not even a contest.  And, Ray Lewis, as good as he is, had his best seasons years ago.  Age has caught up to him.

Smart move by the 49ers locking this guy up.  Great MLB's are hard to come by.

"aside from Ray Lewin, I could name a dozen who are better or at least as good.

But alas, I won't because I don't have the time.  Nor do I care to debate the issue."

So why bother to post ?   Thats merely my question.

And I don't care about your opinion.

He's worth every pennie and is showing no signs of slowing down. Good for #52 - good for the 49ers.

Hey Goldpussycat, get your facts straight kid, Willis is the best MLB in the game by a long run.  You could name two MLB who could challenge him, but there is no one close right now son.  Good luck finding them!
