Russell the reason he failed

Posted on: May 6, 2010 5:54 pm

Pick the way JaMarcus Russell celebrated being released by the Oakland Raiders:

--With two double-cheeseburgers and fries.

---With two large pizzas.

---By rolling in his $39 million that he stole from the team.

---All of the above.

Russell was released by the Raiders Thursday, cementing him for now as the biggest draft bust in NFL history. The Raiders picked him first overall in the 2007 draft with the idea he would be a franchise player.

He was: Fast-food franchise all-star.

Russell didn't put the work in, which is why he failed. It's that simple. If Russell worked, kept his body in shape, studied film, he'd still be in the league. He'd be starting for the Raiders.

But he didn't care. And it showed.

Now he's out of work.

I talked to Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher last week and asked him about Russell's lack of work ethic. He was astounded, saying he never saw any of that when he was the offensive coordinator at LSU when Russell played there.

Russell can turn things around. He can get in shape. He can make himself a starter again.
If he doesn't, he will go down as the biggest bust ever, just ahead of Ryan Leaf.

If that happens, he can blame his mouth.

Better yet, what he put into it.

Russell the reason he failed

I totally agree....Until he has epic blowups and drug charges Russell is nowhere near the bust Ryan Leaf was.

Russell the reason he failed

Just a case of too much, too soon for someone that ended up not being able to handle it. Ryan Leaf will always be the bigger bust.

Russell the reason he failed

The over-under for Russel getting busted for smoking/possesion of weed is got to be 6 months.  If anyone ever heard one of his interviews they would think he was high when he gave them.  Don't be suprised when all of this is revealed.

Russell the reason he failed

Also, wasn't Leaf taken ahead of Peyton Manning? If so, that makes Leaf a even bigger disappointment.

Russell the reason he failed

Wow...  I didn't even realize all of the picks and players the Chargers gave up for Leaf.  When you factor in all of that and the way he just destroyed the Chargers locker room and franchise for that matter for years.  He sent us spiraling downward until John  Butler took over and drafted LT and Drew Brees...

Russel is indeed #1 draft bust ever as of now.

If Jamarcus Russel's carreer ends as it is now and he doesn't play for another team, he has to be considered the worse NFL draft pick of all time. And I say that because Ryan Leaf was not picked ahead of Peyton Manning. Thank god. If he were, he would have been the worse pick ever. FOREVER. But he wasn't. He was the #2 pick. Russel was picked ahead of many players at other positions who will probably end their carreers as hall of famers. Take your pick. #2 Calvin Johnson is everything anyone would want in a go-to receiver. #3 Joe Thomas is one of the best Left Tackles in the league. #7 Adrian Peterson is Eric Dickerson revisited. #11 Patrick Willis is the best Middle Linebacker in the game, like Ray Lewis was but without the baggage. #14 Darelle Revis is the best corner in the game now, plays like Ty Law in his prime. Man, many late first rounders in 2007 became pro bowlers like OT Joe Staley, FS Brandon Merriweather and LB Jon Beason. The Russel pick stinks and the fact that he failed because he didn't even care to work hard to try to reward the Raiders for making such an investment makes him as bad as Leaf. He didn't watch film at all, didn't take care of his body, was the last to arrive and the first to leave in practices when he should have taken a "lead by example" role. He was the team's QB, now at 300 pounds he's closer to a DT. Rams fans want him to gain another 40 pounds to sign him to help the team plug the middle of the D line. Than again, Russel never wanted to play hard, I can't see him bullrushing guards or centers. Monumental bust, and since he went #1 overall in such a good draft, he has to be the biggest draft bust ever.

Russell the reason he failed

This one is simple math.

$39 million dollars
3 years
7 wins
300 pounds at every training camp.

Without a doubt, he took the title from Leaf. Russell was more pathetic.

Russell the REAL reason he failed

Knew he would be a bust while watching LSU in championship game.  As teammates from LSU were congratulating him, he wasn't acknowledging them, just thinking he was the man.  In his mind, it was all about him.  He is so stuck on himself.  He has natural talent but no brains.  He's a lazy, selfish millionaire who will be broke in 2 years anyway.  Soon he'll be surviving on 3 hots and a cot.  More tax dollars from us.
