Derek Anderson is not the answer

Posted on: September 1, 2010 6:22 pm

I think Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is one of the best coaches in the NFL.

I don't agree with his quarterback decision.

I told him as much last week when I saw him Nashville, for whatever that's worth, which is nothing.

Derek Anderson isn't a starting quarterback in my mind. He doesn't see the field well enough. That alone should be reason enough to start Matt Leinart. Anderson is a wild thrower. You never know where it's going. Yes, Leinart checks it down too much, but at least he knows where to go with the football.

The Cardinals are peddling Leinart around the league in a potential trade. It's not that I think Leinart is the next great thing. It's just that I think he sees the field better than Anderson, and gives the Cardinals a better chance to win.

I thought the Cardinals were an easy pick in the NFC West. They are talented and they have the best coach in Whisenhunt.

Now, I'm not so sure.

This is a quarterback league. Uncertainty at that spot has ruined many a talented team and could do the same to the Cardinals.

Derek Anderson is not the answer

I don't know much about Leinart, but I can tell you that DA is not the answer.  This guy is a classic case of "backup QB is the most popular guy on the team".  Trust me... you are better off without him.  He teases you with his rocket arm, but that is all he has.  He is not a leader.... he will throw anyone and everyone under the bus when push comes to shove.  He can throw the ball a mile, but he absolutely CANNOT hit a guys hands on a 3 yard slant.  This was the case even when he went to the pro bowl in 2007.  He will throw picks at the worst times and leave you wondering "what the heck was he thinking".  But worst of all, he will fold like a deck of cards when the pressure is on.  Just watch a clip of Browns vs. Bengals in Week 14 of 2007.  It was the most important game in a decade for the franchise and was one of the worst performances I've ever seen from a QB.  Do not be fooled by this guy.  He is a cancer and will only cause bad things for the Cardinals.

Pete ,I can agree that Anderson is not the answer in Arizona. On the other hand niether id Lienart! The pretty boy doesn't really want to play football. This is one of the problems with no rookie cap!Why should he care ,he's already has enough money from signing his rookie deal to be set for life.Pride you say?Well obviously he doesn't have any,in football anyway.

....AND YOU DON'T HAVE IT, PRISCO!!!

No kidding!  I immediately thought to myself, STFU!!  When will the media understand that just because they write about it, they are not experts or even qualified to give these idiotic opinions to an NFL Head Coach.  You (the media) have the chance to sit/talk with the big boys, that doesn't mean that you ARE in the same category as the big boys.  Give me a break... just report the news, for cryin' out loud!  !!

Derek Anderson is not the answer

Here's the bottom line if you're a Cards fan (and I am):

If derek Anderson is your starting QB then it's going be a very long, very unsuccessful season.

Good luck shopping Leinart. What team is going to trade for a QB that can't beat Anderson for a starting spot?

So if the cards are looking to dump leinart, and they have a qb in anderson whose proven that he cannot be successful in the nfl, you'd think theyd be in the market for another QB, right? Unless they have a lot of confidence in the likes of Max Hall and John Skelton of corse. But hows a trade for Troy Smith sound? He's a Raven fan favorite as a 3rd string QB, he's extremly respected by the entire team, and everybody in the organization would like to see him succeed, BUT the Ravens already have their guy in Flacco. He'd cost at most a 5th round pick, and hes proven he can be a team leader. Just tossing the idea out there...

Prisco hit the nail on the head. This is a guy that completed 2 for 17 against the Bills last year and is not a starting QB in this league. Leinart surely isn't great as said but he's the better of the two in my opinion.

"...for whatever that's worth, which is nothing."
First time I've ever agreed with Prisco on something.
