Mike Vick? Really?

Posted on: September 21, 2010 6:07 pm

Mike Vick is the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why?

Is Andy Reid really giving up on Kevin Kolb that quickly? Vick has played well in his two appearances, but you don't trade away Donovan McNabb with the idea of making Kolb your long-term solution and then give up on it after one half of football.

You know what you have in Vick: A wonderfully athletic player that can do amazing things with his feet but is limited with his ability to be a quality passer.

Vick has never been a good passer. This is a passing league -- more even than when he was the starter in Atlanta.

Kolb suffered a concussion in the opening loss to the Green Bay Packers. Vick came in and played well and then played well in a start last week at Detroit. But the Lions aren't good on defense. Then again, neither are the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Eagles opponent this week.

Teams will say they hate preparing for Vick because of his improvisational skills. But talking to coaches over the years, that is offset by the fact that he doesn't throw it as well.

I guess the Eagles decided in a half that Kolb isn't their answer.

Somewhere Donovan McNabb has to be chuckling.

The Eagles have really botched their quarterback situation.

Get ready, Philly. The Single Wing is your new offense.

Mike Vick!! (Removed ? and add !!) OLine

Michael Vick is going to be exciting. and he'll do it with an offensive line that can't block and guard against 5 grandmas let alone NFL defenses.
Reasons:— The team doesn't respond to Kevin. They respond to Michael.— Andy realizes that he'll be the next train out of Philly if he let's Kevin play and get murdered behind that offense— Michael puts arses into the seats.— Michael v McNabb will cause the NFL to change to Flex Time in two weeks.— Michael inside of a real offensive system like Philly will make him into a far better Quarterback than anyone would have ever imagined.— When teams try to groom players to take over like Kevin has been groomed to, those teams learn that great QBs beat their competition and win the job. They don't get handed the job.

Mike Vick? Really?

Thank you for pointing out the obvious. Kolb must be suffering from lingering effects from the concussion. In other sports concussions have really caused players to be out for extended periods of time. The Wild's Brett Burns and Pierre Marc-Bouchard both missed entire years because of concussions. Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins has been out since July 7. And since I'm still regional here, the University of North Dakota's captain on their hockey team last year got a concussion against St. Cloud State and missed the entire season. I think Kolb is the starter in the long run. I think Andy Reid is doing what he's supposed to be doing, keeping players from furthering any damage done by concussions and Kevin Kolb is still dealing with the aftermath. The league seems very two faced on this concussion issue, encouraging teams to put their players out on the field as soon as possible, regardless of health, but yet will turn around to say, "Oh we don't want players hurt, we're doing extensive studies on concussions and are exploring rules to prevent it." Anyway, the Vick starting is good for Vick, it'll get him some suitors this offseason that want to take a flier. If the Vikes don't get McNabb in the offseason, maybe they can install the triple option with Peterson, Vick, and Gerhart, or perhaps they could steal the pistol from Nevada. (Had to throw in a homer comment there). For some reason I see Buffalo being the team that relentlessly pursues Vick this offseason.

Mike Vick? Really?

This guy who wrote this must not have watched the pre season, and obviously doesn't realize Kevin Kolb was just a guinea pig, do you really think we traded McNabb becaause of Kolb? thats laughable that you even believe THAT bs. 105 qb rating completing over 60% of his passes yea his is a bad passer after all isn't he?

Mike Vick? Really?

why does everyone fall in love with the qb that cant pass but can run really fast. vick had a couple of good games well less anyone remembers kolb lite up the scoreboard last season setting a record as the only qb to pass for more than 300 yards in his first two games of his career.if vick isnt the awnser at the end of the year the eagles will be another year in transition being that kolb losses all that game time experience. i guess you cant trust what the andy reid says.. i guess when vick if he should collapse the theme song in philly will be who let the dogs out. until vick is able to do this regulary and against  more quality defenses let just slow down here. truthfully all you out there just because the papers or espn tells you the guys great doesnt mean he is  ( J. RUSSELL, T. MANDRICH,B. BOSWORTH, M LIENART ,R BUSH JAKE LOCKER) FORM YOUR OWN THOUGHTS PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Mike Vick? Really?

all this talk and hype on certain things is unbelievable. vick has always been a bum when it comes down to passing it can be taught with time what cant be taught is how to run. lets be real lets not make the criminal the next joe montana just yet. he moved the team in crunch time against a weak packer defense but didnt win. then he plays the lions heck we can put 11 guys from this blog site and put points on the board against the lions. vick hasnt done anything yet he hasnt faced a good team or adversity. the idea is to get your young gun some time especially against a weaker opponenet, unlike what the panthers are doing to clausen this week. perhaps vick has matured and is better with his progressions, but until he shows that against quality lets not get carried away. this will indeed slow the growth of kolb so if vick implodes where will u be

Mike Vick? Really?

Pete, Pete, Pete you are surprising me with your major oversight. In the first game Vick threw for 175 yards in only 2 quarters of play. In the 2nd game he threw 2tds and over 280 yards - efficiently. He is the most electrifying QB in the league and by far, maximizes the Eagles' chances of winning compared to Kolb. Michael Vick will wreak havoc upon defenses as he is surrounded with better talent than what he had as an Atlanta Falcon. Mike Vick really is better than Donovan McNabb and can dwarf even elite QB's.

Mike Vick? Really?

Two wins?? I am wrong or didn't the Eagles lose to the Packers???

The Eagles have no shot of winning anything this year with or without Vick, so this is a complete waste of time. Kolb needs a chance to play without Reid putting Vick in every 2 plays for some wildcat crap.

Vick is not the future, he did nothing in 6 years in Atlanta and he will win nothing here. It's a lateral move to drop Mcnabb and use another 30 year old QB whose is a worse passer than Mcnabb.

Mike Vick? Really?

Don't feel that bad for Kolb, his getting paid real well.
Don't worry, I won't.  The guy signed a 2 year deal for over 12 million dollars, every penny of it guaranteed.  How many NFL contracts like that exist in today's NFL for PROVEN players let alone somebody that has accomplished ZERO???  He got 10 million cash up front as a signing bonus, not bad for a guy that has never been a starter in the league.

As for the morons that still talk about what Vick did to dogs, give me a break.  Like it or not, he served his time for the crime.  Two years in a federal penitentiary isn't exactly a joke.  If child molesters are allowed to get out of jail and work in their field then I think Vick should get a second shot.  And don't tell me people with felonies don't get good jobs because if you know anything at all you know that's not true. If a guy gets out of jail and has skills there are programs all over the U.S that HELP HIM find a job in his field......
