Mike Vick? Really?

Posted on: September 21, 2010 6:07 pm

Mike Vick is the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why?

Is Andy Reid really giving up on Kevin Kolb that quickly? Vick has played well in his two appearances, but you don't trade away Donovan McNabb with the idea of making Kolb your long-term solution and then give up on it after one half of football.

You know what you have in Vick: A wonderfully athletic player that can do amazing things with his feet but is limited with his ability to be a quality passer.

Vick has never been a good passer. This is a passing league -- more even than when he was the starter in Atlanta.

Kolb suffered a concussion in the opening loss to the Green Bay Packers. Vick came in and played well and then played well in a start last week at Detroit. But the Lions aren't good on defense. Then again, neither are the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Eagles opponent this week.

Teams will say they hate preparing for Vick because of his improvisational skills. But talking to coaches over the years, that is offset by the fact that he doesn't throw it as well.

I guess the Eagles decided in a half that Kolb isn't their answer.

Somewhere Donovan McNabb has to be chuckling.

The Eagles have really botched their quarterback situation.

Get ready, Philly. The Single Wing is your new offense.

Mike Vick? Really?

remember he played a Detroit  Lion defense and a Packer defense that wasnt prepared to face Michael Vick
No sir, not true at all.  The Detroit Lions were fully prepared to face Michael Vick and said they were from the beginning of the week until game time.  I listen to Detroit sports radio and listened to players talk about him all week long......  if you want to say the Lions suck and that's why he did well then fine, you buy yourself another week.  But they knew exactly who they were facing.....

Prisco

This guy is an idiot. Vick looked pretty accurate if you take out a few throws Sunday. Why would McNabb be chuckling if the Eagles and Redskins are both 1-1?

Mike Vick? Really?

Donovans not accurate and cant win the big game so you gave him up now for Vick whos completion % is worse and he cant win a big game
I can tell you're new to football so let me educate you for a second.  Michael Vick didn't play for today's Atlanta team, he played for a team that was much much worse then this team isl.  Only after Vick left before yan's rookie season did they revamp the whole offensive line and and add a probowl running back to the team.  When Vick was there the fact he clearly had a winning record, played in championship games and made 3 probowls is a miracle to say the least.

Vick's current team is 10 times better then Atlanta ever was back then.... and his stats will now improve dramatically.

Prisco you should've been one of Vick's dogs!

What part about passing 284 yards and 2 TD's isn't passing in VICK's win over the Lions.  Again I say, where's the talk about the problem with the Eagles DEFENSE?  The QB situation is masking a HUGE PROBLEM in philly, why were the Lions with Shaun Hill at the helm able to put up 32 points???  FOCUS!

Mike Vick? Really?

Pete, you sound ignorant trying to compare the Vick from 2002-2006 to the Vick of now. That's like comparing Steve Young in his first few years in TB to when he was with the Niners or Favre when he played with the Falcons compared to Green Bay.  Or even Rich Gannon when he was with the Vikings compared to the Raiders.  They're completely sets of circumstances.  The coaching staff with the Eagles is far superior to Mora/Knapp as well as the pieces he has to work with (Jackson, Celek, Maclan, Mccoy).  Last and most importantly his work ethic is completely different  (Vick would even admit that).  Being a die hard Falcons fan, I witnessed every game he started and I was hoping and begging he would use less of his God-given atheltic abilties and become more of a student of the game like Manning and Brees.  It looks like it took this life-changing event for this to happen and fortunately for the Eagles they'll reap the benefits (they deserve it since they were the only team to take a chance on him).  How ironic would it be for Mcnabb to see guy who leads the Eagles to the promised land is the one he asked the organization to sign.

As a Falcons fan I'm not surprised by this.  We're a cursed franchise who've seen super talents escape us and have success elsewhere. (Favre, Deion Sanders).

Mike Vick? Really?

Good for Mike Vick he earned it. McNabb chuckles oh really he was here for 11years more then enough. He is not going to win anything in Washington so good riddance.

Mike Vick? Really?

Prisco you dumb f***. You literally base your opinion off stereo types? Im a Patriots fan, a team with a conventional pocket passers, but if you don't have that then you go with what's best, which in this case is Vick. Do you really think a pocket QB is the whole team? You probably think Peyton Manning is more beneficial to the Colts himself than the rest of the team would be without him. Put Manning on the Bills and Trent Edwards on the Colts and I bet the Colts still have a better year. One guy does not outnumber 50 others combined, you dumb shit.

Mike Vick? Really?

Perhaps you wrote this article without actually watching the games, but Vick was being a quality passer. As a life long Falcons fan I can say he's showing off passing skills now that he never had with us. He's sticking to his arm in the pocket and running as a back up plan. Basically, he's becoming more like McNabb.

It's quite clear and I mean very clear your "personal" feelings towards Vick cloud your ability to ever write an article about him.

Mike Vick? Really?

Kevin has not thrown a single touchdown this preseason or regular season.  He never really competed for the job either, he was announced as the franchise of the Eagles when they released Donovan McNabb.  I think the Philly fans had enough of Donovan and he had outgrown his welcome, he will do well finishing his career in Washington.  The mistake for Andy Reid was saying publicly that Kobb was the future and then moving in the direction of Vick.  Vick is clearly able to score points and move the offense, he is explosive to watch and I think he adds a dimension to there offense they didn't have, a west coast offense works well with Vick much like Steve Young did with the 49ers.   Vick is older, I think wiser, and as the season goes he may get better as a passer. I say with Vick they make the playoffs and without him they would have been a .500 ball club.  How you went about it Andy makes you look stupid but doing it tells me your not dumb.
