Is Tanard Jackson really that stupid?
Jackson, a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was suspended by the NFL Wednesday for the rest of the season for violating the league's substance-abuse program. Jackson was suspended to open the 2009 season, so this will be a year suspension. He is eligible to be re-instated Sept. 11, 2011.
This is a big hit for the Bucs. Jackson is a rangy safety who is one of the better cover safeties in the NFC. He is one of the Bucs best players on defense.
To replace him, Tampa Bay has options. They could put rookie Cody Grimm into the lineup or they could re-insert Sabby Piscitelli into the lineup. He lost his starting strong safety job to Sean Jones. Both seem more like strong safeties than free safeties, which could cause problems in the coverage area.
No matter who takes over for Jackson, he won't be nearly as good as Jackson.
