Luck should go

Posted on: January 6, 2011 3:00 pm

Andrew Luck might be a smart student at Stanford, but when it comes to life decisions he is a fool.

What could possibly make him go back to Stanford? He will be the top pick in the April Draft if he were to come out. But Luck said Thursday he would return to Stanford for his redshirt-junior season.

He wants to get his degree.

Hey, lots of unemployed graduates have degrees that mean nothing now. Just look around.  You have a chance to make millions. Why would you risk injury to earn a few more credits toward a degree? You can always go back and get that paper.

College life is fun, but there isn't much more fun than being a millionaire, bachelor quarterback I imagine.

Jake Locker made the decision to go back to Washington for his senior season last year and it probably cost him millions.

There is no degree that can make up that money. OK, so maybe a few. Not many.

Luck has nowhere to go but down. Plus, there could be a rookie wage scale next season.

Way back in October, a high-profile agent insisted to me that Luck would stay in school. I told him was nuts.

I guess I was the nutty one.

Or is it Luck who is truly the nut here?

Luck should go

Honestly, regardless of the nfl season issue (i assure you there will be a season, no wait i'd bet any money there will be and challenge someone to bet me on this... Luck made the worst choice... as a college student i know... degrees make a difference .. however they make a difference within simply a couple of years.. things change and they change rapdliy... im i nursing major and we are learning things i guarantee nurses simply 5 years before us didin't learn... i know personally if given 1 million .. not multiple... invested properly you could live a life most could never imagine.. let alone several million.. this kid.. my age.. .made the wrong decision

Luck should go

Maybe some of you people don't read, so I will state a FACT once again...THE BRADFORD TYPE OF DEALS ARE ALREADY DEAD AND GONE! The CBA expires in March and the draft is in April. Any player coming out now will have their rookie contract negotiated by the NEW CBA. One that promises to change guaranteed money for rookies. So saying he is walking away from a guaranteed $50+ million is a complete falsehood. Stop using that argument. The structure of rookie contracts will be significantly different this year (if there is a season at all) and years to come, including next year when Luck will come out. The difference dollarwise in those contracts will be negligible. His only concern is a catastrophic career ending injury, and the likelihood of that is minimal. A ripped up knee or shoulder injury is not career ending, just look at Bradford. Any other bump in the road he can surely overcome, as he is too smart and too good not to.

Luck should go

@BIG10toPAC10: Dude, what's his degree in?  Communications?  Sure a Stanford degree sounds impressive, but is his future desk job going to get him a 50 million dollar signing bonus like a top NFL draft contract?  Hardly not.  Maybe he'll get health care if he's "luck"-y.

Bad move Luck.

Cash, cash, CASH!... and a little cash for luck (no pun intended here...). Seriously, I fail to see a value in that argument all-that-money-passing-under-his-no

se, as if dough was the only value to care about in life! And as for Jake Locker, maybe he made a blunder by staying in Washington another year like a certain Matt Leinart at USC but can he be less commited? Not sure. And about Carolina, they are clearly in reconstruction mode: John Fox is gone, so there will certainly mean another system to implement and all the growing pains going with it.  Result: do not be surprised if the Panthers end up again with the top pick coming 2012. Not to mention that the threat of a lockout in the NFL next fall is always looming. Do you think Luck wasn't aware of that?...

Luck should go

Luck is smart.  Running backs should come out as early as they can.  Quaterbacks should stay as long as they can.  That's the rule of thumb.  Not to mention no one knows for sure if there will even be a NFL next year so why put yourself through that uncertainity.  Besides Luck will be Junior next year.  That's right junior. So maybe after next year if he decides to stay or go, I could see both sides to why he should or shouldn't.  As of this year only a dummy(or should I say midget?) will say he made a bad decision in staying list year

I disagree with Prisco, which seems to be pretty much always. For almost everybody.

If he gets hurt and doesnt go pro in football. He is going to graduate from Stanford with a degree in Architectural Design. He will have NO problem getting a job that pays millions.

The Jake Locker point is well stated... and I'm glad you used Jake at the University of Washington.  UW is one of the best schools in the nation, and when Jake graduates from UW he would more than likely find a job, as would many others who graduate from good schools.  However there is one important fact the article omits.   STANFORD is an elite WORLD institution.  Their graduates ARE those who shape the world.

This very medium we are currently using (the internet) was developed by a Stanford Grad.  Some of the systems we are using to post comments was (HP) founded by Standford grads.  The credit card we used to pay for this opportunity (Capitol One) founder and CEO -- you guessed it a Stanford grad.

My point is simple, be careful to equate pedestrian colleges and their graduates with the Leland Stanford Junior University graduates...
Prisco should have known better!

Actually "firstchance1" we don't have a team in Canada. ( the Bills 'once a year' doesn't count ) And I don't think the ARGOS ( thats Torontos CFL team, for the most of you that are saying ( HUNH ?? WHO ?? ) can afford 60 Mill. now 60 thousand we could do.

Everytime you write something you prove that the American dream of unbridaled wealth is not what it cracks up to be. You are the nutty one. He will make millions (maybe less than he would but still millions) and get to enjoy another year of university life. Life is not only about money Prisco. Maybe he thought taking a pay hit to enjoy himself was a worthwhile choice or perhaps he does not want to play in Carolina? Rookie wage scale? Oh no he will make only 10 million next year! Gimme a break and get your head out of your... life is more than a money grab.
