49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Now we’ll find out if Jim Harbaugh can coach. We get to see what he can do without a quarterback.

Harbaugh agreed to become coach of the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, a team with major quarterback issues.

At the University of San Diego, Harbaugh had Josh Johnson, now a backup with Tampa Bay and clearly an elite player on the non-scholarship level.

At Stanford, Harbaugh did little until Andrew Luck became his quarterback. In San Francisco, he has nothing close to that.

That’s why I’m sure he had trouble deciding to take the job, even though he’s going to be paid $5 million a year.

Not having a quarterback is career suicide.

The 49ers will almost certainly draft a passer in the first or second round. But whoever that is will be a step down from Luck.

We’re about to find out if Jim Harbuagh is as good as advertised.

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Well now you know Pete. Harbaugh can coach. Why doubt? his father and brother were and are good coaches. He has gotton Alex Smith to believe. Being a quarterbach himself and a offense minded guy it will only help Alex. So far so good.Laughing

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Wow, talk about arrogance.  Of course Harbaugh can coach, that is why he is in such demand.  Of course, in the bizarro world that Prisco dwells in, a coach is only good if his players are untalented.  Just how many untalented players are there in the NFL?  However, before Harbaugh got there, there were many untalented players at Stanford.  However, because he is a good coach, he whipped them into shape and made them into a football team.  Do you remember the outcry when Stanford beat USC.  It was called the  greatest upset in the history of college football.  Now it looks like the just the beginning.
Prisco is an idiot.

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Ganjam I think you left off at least two of the best places for BBQ in KC.  Oklahoma Joes and Smoking Guns while I agree dont go to KC Masterpiece and to go to Jack Stack (which some same have the best sides between cheesy corn and there beans) if you want the dining experience, but I think Gates meat isnt as quite as good as some of the other places but there sauce is some of the best.  Personally if you want a sandwich I would say goe to Oklahoma Joes and for the best burnt ends or baby back ribs go to Smoking Guns (if you havent tried it I would definitely recommend).

As for Harbaugh going to the 49ers Im very excited as both a 49ers fan and a Notre Dame fan.  If he would of stayed at Stanford or gone to Michigan that would of just made things that much harder for Notre Dame and I believe he will be able to turn around the 49ers.  Even without a QB this year they were in the run for the division of course it is the weakest division in the league which is not going to change anytime soon.  They were lost many times out there and had no gameplan which he will install I could easily see them winning the division next year they have a great running back and drafted two first round lineman last year so they should be able to pound the ball next year setting up they play action pass for whoever is the QB next year.  They still have a D that is very good against the run and that will only get better.  Sure as I say they could easily win the division next year that is not saying they are anywhere near super bowl contenders because for that they will need a better QB but I could see Orton coming for a year or two and maybe drafting Mallet grooming him for a year or two and I see nothing but success for the 49ers and Harbaugh.

How does Prisco get paid to write?

As far as the QB situation, the Niners can easily trade for an Orton or someone of that ilk to stop gap til whoever we draft matures.  There is also the strong chance that we trade up and Luck only wants to play for Harbaugh and becomes a Niner.  The third possibility is that Alex actually gets a chance to be quarterback.  The guy has had a million offensive coordinators, two coaches that were totally inept and didn't know how to use his skills.  Alex has shown flashes and I still believe that if he is allowed to let loose that he can be productive.  No matter the direction we go at QB the Niners win the division next year with no Singletary pounding the guys.

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Prisco, you can't fault a guy who wants to ply his trade and throw his hat in the professional arena. The itch was there. But lets be real here. I ask you: Where was the opportunity with the "golden" quarterback available? Miami? Denver? Oakland? Carolina? No Manning, no Brady, No Big Ben. It's not like the elites needed his services just now. Not everyone has guys like these to try to win with. I love his energy and desire and believe he has what it takes to be successful on the next level. Time will tell.

Hey Pete. Don't forget to sample the ribs at LC's they are superb. Arthur Bryants and Gates might be more famous ( and lord knows I love both places), but there's nothing like a rack o' ribs from LC's while Arrowhead parking lot is rocking.

Heres some other useful tidbits while sampling BBQ in KC.

1. A Beef and a Half at Gates BBQ is the best beef brisket sandwich on the planet get one! Just shout out ' Beef and a Half Lean As...' when you walk in.
2. Arthur Bryants is as classic a BBQ joint you can go to in the country. Don't miss it.
3. LC's is the best kept BBQ secret in the whole country.
4. If you want to sit down and have the fine dining experience go to Jack Stack not KC Masterpiece (which is not true Kansas City Barbeque anyway)
5. Don't skip out on Rosedale Barbeque just because its inexpensive compared to the classic places. It's some of the best straight up no frills BBQ on the planet.

GO CHIEFS!

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

Are you sure its that impossible for Luck to join the 49ers? As far as I know the only part of the two decisions you can make that are permanant is the one that you are going for the draft, not that you want to come back next year.

49ers a challenge for Harbaugh

It is possible Jim Harbaugh knows something about operating as a QB in professional football, a thing sadly lacking during the past 5 years with the 49ers.  He brings major offensive expertise, common sense and enthusiam to an organization deficient in all of this.

Doesn't Carson Palmer want out of Cincy?

...but I think Harbaugh's goal is to win games.
