Rivera is a good hire

I love the idea that the Carolina Panthers will hire San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
He's a good coach, but he's also a really good guy. The league needs more like that, rather than the ogre coaches that we sometimes see.
Rivera will fix that Carolina defense. He's really good at that But the key will be his offensive coordinator hire. The Panthers ran an outdated offense under former coach John Fox.
They need to get with the times. It will be interesting to see who Rivera hires to lead his offense.
With Andrew Luck out of the picture, I bet the Panthers opt to take Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley with the first pick in the draft in April. Rivera would love to have a guy in the middle of his defense with those skills, and it doesn't appear another quarterback would be worth the top spot.
But until the Panthers change the culture of their offense -- and make it more wide open -- it won't matter how good they are on defense. Thats why Rivera's offensive coordinator might be as important as he is to turning the team around when he does officially become the Carolina head coach.

Rivera is a good hire

Ron Rivera is one of the top 3 defensive minded coaches in the NFL. I think any Chargers or Bears fan will tell you that. The guy is an absolute genious on that side of the ball.

Now all hes gotta do is hire Josh Mcdaniels, and that Panthers team will be extremely competitve in just 2 years.

Rivera is a good hire

if they have anywhere near the patience they had with Fox, he'll be fine.

What do you mean?  John Fox took them from 1-15 to 7-9 to the Superbowl, and he only had 1 season with less than 7 wins(and that was due to the owner cutting all of the veterans so Fox would be forced to play the rookies...something he doesn't like doing).  Patience what not the issue.  The Panther's problems will not stop because Marty Hurney is still the GM.  Panther's fans can expect more of the same offseason signings of Marcus Hudson, Ed Johnson & Wallace Wright instead of Antrel Rolle, Dwan Edwards & Brandon Marshall.  I, personally, expect another 9 years of 8-8.

HAHAHA Prisco likes the hire. You're officially screwed Carolina!!
Hey, even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.

This is a great hire by Carolina.  Rivera is a guy who has deserved his shot for years.  The Bears never should have let him go.

Rivera is a good hire

Ron Rivera is a good hire but isn't John Fox a better defensive coach???  They should have went with an offensive-minded head coach and got a good defensive coach after.  I like Rivera but you saw what happened when Singeltary was a head coach right?

Ron Rivera Needs To Hire Norv Turner as his OC!

Now, how's that irony of a headline? Norv Turner is not wanted in San Diego despite AJ Smith and Dean Spanos' reasonings. How can a coach with all those talented players not make the necessary game adjustments to win...when it counts! Two huge games - against the Raiders at home and the Bungles - were obvious headcoaching bumblings in Norv's part. I can still hear  his "What happened?! What happened?!!!" clueless spat towards Ron Rivera after that Simpson TD blast down the sideline. I understand, Ron Rivera's D should take some heat for that too but ultimately the HC is the one sitting on the hot seat.

Goodbye to Ron Rivera and here's hoping he will have success in rebuilding a decimated Carolina team back to relevancy. But I do agree with Prisco, he will need a heck of an offensive coordinator. Maybe he can evaluate Josh McDaniels too. He was really good in New England, after all, right? He just got over his head in Denver.

I disagree, the Chargers have won in years past despite Rivera.  Brees, L.T, Rivers, Gates, Norv, they ran that show.
The Panthers already had a defensive minded coach and one that took them to the Superbowl. Now the Panthers have taken another step backwards, when they should have hired an x's an o's guy to spice up that 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Rivera has 2 years before they see that he's not cut out to be a Head Coach.
