Raiders get right man

Hue Jackson is the right man to be coach of the Oakland Raiders.

Jackson, who has served as offensive coordinator for three NFL teams, has the right temperament for the job. He is easy-going, yet knows when to use the discipline. He also understands offensive football.

Jackson takes over as coach of a team loaded with speed. When I talked to a defensive coordinator this season about playing the Raiders, he raved about the offensive speed.

"They're like a track team," the coordinator said.

Jackson will get the most out of that speed. He is highly respected by his peers. The first thing he has to do is decide on a quarterback.

Is it Jason Campbell or someone else? If he can fix that, the Raiders could be explosive on offense with all that speed. You know that means something to Al Davis.

Players raved about Jackson's passion at times during practices. I think Jackson will help the Raiders cut down on the dumb errors they always seem to make. He decided to feature Darren McFadden on offense last season, and that seemed to work.

I was one of the idiots who picked the Raiders to make the playoffs. At times, we saw why. They have talent. If Jackson can get this team to be more disciplined -- which I think he can -- the Raiders will have success in 2011.

It Doesn't Matter Who the Raiders Hire!!!

It really doesn't matter who the Raiders hire.  Al Davis will only interfere with the coach's running of the team, even though the coach's azz is on the line if they don't win.  Al Davis will only continue to cheat the coach out of salary that he agreed to pay, making the coach angry and only go thru the motions.  Either Al Davis should coach his own team, his own way, or he should remove himself from the management of the team.  Better yet, the NFL should force Davis to sell the franchise and let a SANE and INTELLIGENT owner restore them to the once proud Oakland Raiders of old.  Oh for the days of Daryl Lamonica, George Blanda, Fred Biletnikoff, Kenny Stabler, Cliff Branch, Marcus Allen, Ray Guy etc.

With all due respect...I am one who thinks "easy going" in the NFL is somewhat of a liability. I think Hue will need a little more Raheem and Rex in him than Lewis or Caldwell. But, I could be wrong.

Raiders get right man

Jackson is not the right choice for HC of the Raiders. The right guy for the job was allowed to leave (Cable). Here's why...Last I checked, Jackson was the OC for the Arizona, San Francisco, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis games-all games we lost. The play-calling in all five games plain sucked. Instead of featuring our strengths (power run game), we tried to pass the ball 40x. No adjustments at half-time in any of the games. Jackson admitted that HE benched Campbell, not Cable. True, Cable preferred Gradkowski, bit both men agreed who should start at QB. Also, for what it is worth, if the O-line was so bad (Cable's baby), why did McFadden have a break-out season? He didn't suddenly learn how to run. The reason he is going to the Pro Bowl is because the O-line opened up holes for him, that at times, you could drive a truck through. I'm not here to say that Cable was great. If Al had fired him before the season coming off of a 4-12 record, then I'm fine with that. Fire a guy after going 8-8, and having the players buy into your system and genuinely want to play for you-that is another. This is typical Al Davis. For the record, a HC, OC, DC will NEVER have full control to game plan and actually coach because Davis is a micro-manager who thinks it is still the 1970's. When a HC tells Davis to go fock himself, he gets traded for draft picks and cash or gets fired for cause. All Davis had to do, was retain Cable for mone more season. Allow John Marshall to actually blitz, and replace Routt,Huff, Johnson (The Kingsford Triplets since they always get burned). Resign Aso, maybe sign Champ in FA, and get some of our rookie DB's in the fold. On Offense, obviously resign Miller, Bush, and pick-up some WR help (Ocho) as well as clear out the right side of the O-line. With minimal effort and continuity, this team would make the playoffs next year. Jury's out on Campbell aka Captain Checkdown. Maybe with another season in the same offense, and better mastery of the playbook-he might be something. Time will tell.

Raiders get right man

Time will tell if Hue is the right choice.  I will say this thou, if Cable went 8-8 and 6-0 in the West then Hue better get at least 10-6 and the playoffs or he'll be on the hot seat.  As a matter of fact, he's on the hot seat already and have officially been named the HC yet.  Everybody knows he's got limited time to get the Raiders in the playoffs.  We don't have the last place schedule anymore so our non-AFC West competition next season will be harder than 2010.  I hope Hue gets a good 3 years at this or we'll all be back on this blog in 2 years talking about the NEXT right choice.

Raiders get right man

Ho hum. Another Raider coach under the looney with the old lady glasses and the 60's football mentality. The guy will last 2 years and be replaced by some other guy. Until Davis is gone, the Raiders will be non-factors. They're poorly run and have a lunatic at the helm.

Cable goes 8-8 and 6-0 in the division and gets canned. davis has the right to can him and not pick-up his option, though the guy did a nice job. However, Davis fined the guy $120,000 during the year. Why hasn't the NFL stepped in? They fine players for the silliest stuff and they're goign to let this go? It's a double-satandard is you ask me.

Just lose baby.

Raiders get right man

Thank heavens they got rid of that Idaho Vandal scum.  The only thing that Cable being gone will take away is black eyes from other coaches...
