Hue Jackson is the right man to be coach of the Oakland Raiders.
Jackson, who has served as offensive coordinator for three NFL teams, has the right temperament for the job. He is easy-going, yet knows when to use the discipline. He also understands offensive football.
Jackson takes over as coach of a team loaded with speed. When I talked to a defensive coordinator this season about playing the Raiders, he raved about the offensive speed.
"They're like a track team," the coordinator said.
Jackson will get the most out of that speed. He is highly respected by his peers. The first thing he has to do is decide on a quarterback.
Is it Jason Campbell or someone else? If he can fix that, the Raiders could be explosive on offense with all that speed. You know that means something to Al Davis.
Players raved about Jackson's passion at times during practices. I think Jackson will help the Raiders cut down on the dumb errors they always seem to make. He decided to feature Darren McFadden on offense last season, and that seemed to work.
I was one of the idiots who picked the Raiders to make the playoffs. At times, we saw why. They have talent. If Jackson can get this team to be more disciplined -- which I think he can -- the Raiders will have success in 2011.
