Redskins eyeing a move back

There have been some reports that the Washington Redskins are looking to trade up to draft a quarterback.

I hear it's the exact opposite.

According to a league source, the Redskins are looking to trade down in the first round with the idea they will draft either Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder or TCU quarterback Andy Dalton.

The Redskins, who pick 10th overall, would like to get a second-round pick from a team in exchange for moving back to their spot in the first round. They could then use their two second-round picks to bolster the defense.

For a team that doesn't have a third-round pick, this scenario makes a lot more sense than trying to trade up.

The X-factor here would be if Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert were to fall to them at the 10th spot. The Redskins would likely take him there, rather than trading back.

One team that is said to be eyeing the 10th spot is the New England Patriots, who have two first-round picks and two second-round picks. The Patriots might have their eye on an edge rusher -- like Ryan Kerrigan of Purdue -- or a receiver like Julio Jones of Alabama.

No matter if they trade down or not, the Redskins have to get a quarterback in this draft. Donovan McNabb is on his way out and Rex Grossman isn't the answer and he's a free agent.

The only quarterback on the roster is John Beck. Not a chance he's the opening-day starter, which is why a trade back in th first round makes sense.

Redskins eyeing a move back

It is always entertaining to watch the fantasy league GM's weigh in on what their favorite teams will be doing in the draft or in free agency.  Especially when they cannot spell the names of the players that they are sharing their expertise on.

Being a Jake Locker fan and not thinking much of the Redskins org, I'm glad to see that no one is even considering the possibility of him going there. Plug him into a good org with a well coached team and you are going to see something.

Steelers would open to trading up for Pouncye. May not be that high, but it would be nice.

I like this way like they did few years ago with WR but they had the wrong coach to develop them. Now I know Shanahan and he can groom up anybody from first to seventh round. Shanahan should with Locker in the second and trade down their first round for more help.

Hopefully, this is a smokescreen and the team likes Kaepernick or T.J.Yates, the Tarheel Sr.QB. Of all of the QB prospects Yates is being severely overlooked, but the guy can play. Nice live, arm, heady, poised, experienced and with good size at a "big" 6'3 (6'3 5/8). Yates had good movement in the pocket and can throw any type of pass. The Tarheel program was hurt by the Miami club mess and while Robert Quinn & to a lesser extent GregLittle have been able to raise their profiles again, Yates hasn't been able to. What you really like about him watching games is that it can be chaos around him and he doesn't flinch. He plays with that Favre-like headiness-willing to flip, underhand, shovel, fling, drop-kick or head-butt the ball to get it in a receiver's hands.

Bottom line, IMHO, someone is going to get a steal in the draft with him.

The Skins should draft a QB with each one of their picks, maybe one of them will pan out. They did this with receivers a few years ago, and...ok, none panned out, but still...

It would be a good move to trade dowm, but man, I wish they "reportedly" had their eyes on Colin Kaepernick or T.J. Yates as QB prospects. I think Yates is going to suprise some people some day.

no QB from the state of Florida will ever work in NFL.  WHAT?

Tell me something about this subject. Name one QB from any college in Florida has last a decade as a starter from 1998 to now? Only Daunte Culpepper does the best out of that Floridan QB class.

I would not say Ponder will stink in NFL. I just have notice that QB coming out of college in state of Florida sucks in NFL since 2000. Grossman has been a main stay back up. Culpepper had a quite good and short career.
