Brunell will be back with Jets

Posted on: July 29, 2011 10:22 am

The New York Jets released backup quarterback Mark Brunell Friday -- a sign they will likely be signing Nnamdi Asomugha.

Brunell, you see, will be back, according to a source. This is a move made to feee up cap room in an effort to get Asomugha, arguably the top player on the free-agent market.

New York needs cap space to sign Asomugha, who would team with Darrelle Revis to give the Jets the best corner duo in football.

Brunell, who is considered a perfect mentor for Mark Sanchez,  is in his 19th season in the NFL.

Bart Scott nasty?  He used to be, when he stood behind Ray Lewis.

David Harris is one of the most underrated lb's in the league

Yeah, to idiots.  Real NFL fans know how good David Harris is, that's for sure.  I was praying the Jets wouldn't sign him so the Lions could go after him and shore up one of our weaknesses.  The Jets sure know he's good, they signed him to a 10 million dollar 1 year deal that's 100 percent guaranteed, not often you see fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL, this is one of them. And it's for a reason.  I guarantee you if he was a free agent today Harris would be signing a long term deal closer to 50 million dollars and probably 15 or 20 up front.  He's damn good...

The Defence will have a problem with the front 3.

Kris Jenkins - gone
Shaun Ellis - gone
Trevor Pryce - gone

That doesn't help.  Most teams will hit the Jets with the run.

The front 7 are average.

Well that changes things then.  If the Jets haven't replaced the people they lost with capable and solid players, then of course the db's won't be as good regardless of how great they are.  If a team isn't getting pressure on the qb at all and isn't able to stop the run, they aren't going to defend the pass either.  Nobody can cover forever.... Give an NFL qb 4 or 5 seconds to throw the ball and there isn't a db in the history of football that can cover consistently for that long.

That being said I'll be very surprised if the Jets haven't found capable replacements and if their front 7 is only average.  It's been a long time since the Jets didn't have an excellent front 7.... if that changed, then everything changes.

The Jets offense is middle of the pack.  Not as bad as people think and took apart several teams last year (including the Pats in the most important game between the two).  Middle of the road is all you need with a great D. A D that has been in the top 4 against the run (1st in 2009) the last 2 years.

If Nnamdi is across from Revis Island me and 6 of my closest friends would be able to play the front 7!!!!!!!!!!! David Harris is one of the most underrated lb's in the league and Bart Scott is still nasty...Jim Leonard will be back at full strength and people forget he was the heart of our defense last year until he was hurt!! This Muhammad Wilkerson is going to surprise A LOT of people!!!

WHAT GOOD IS A GREAT SECONDARY WHEN THE OFFENCE CAN'T SCORE!!!!!!!!

Listen man. I hate the Jets and I hate their coach even more, but I'm an NFL football and found what you typed ridiculous.  This would give the Jets the best secondary the league has seen in a long long time.  I've been watching football a very long time and can't remember anybody that's had a better secondary then the Jets would have with this signing.   Say what you want about scoring points but a dominating D can do wonders.  Teams have won superbowls with a dominating D with worse offenses then the Jets have.

BruWinz, I acknowledge that Hoodie is a very good coach, but I do think a large part of his "brilliance" is the luck of having Brady also that still doesn't change the fact that he is classless.  BTW, what does the last sentence of your post mean? It sounds ridiculous.

Poor Tuna. Wait, that's the same guy that was working out the details of his new Jets head coach job on the flight back from losing the superbowl with the Pats. If you honestly believe that Bellechick isn't a great coach, your knowledge of the game is lacking, friend. Stinky AIDs.

Hoodie is a home wrecker, as well as a classless sore loser, just ask Tony Dungy, Eric Mangini, Josh McDaniels, LaDanian Tomlinson etc, etc. Hoodie stiffs his mentor Parcells with a one sentence resignation letter "I resign as HC of the NYJ", nice, but god forbid that one of his assistants wants to move on, or move up, Hoodie can't take that. He's the luckiest coach alive to have Brady and should thank the JETS and Mo Lewis every day for knocking Bledsoe out and getting Brady in, otherwise New England would have seen a re-run of his Cleveland days.
