Real message would be: Can't play

It's absurd to think Patriots coach Bill Belichick would sign a player for the sole reason of cutting him to send a message to his team.

That's what one team executive told National Football Post's Dan Pompei. I've known Dan a long time and respect him as a football writer, but even he has to realize that Belichick makes moves for one reason and one reason only: How well do you play?

The implication that Belichick would cut Albert Haynesworth or Chad Ochocinco or both to send a message to his players is foolish.

If Haynesworth or Ochocinco can help the team, they stay. If they can't, they go.

When Randy Moss was helping the Patriots, he stayed. When he wasn't, he went. His attitude problems weren't a big deal when he was stretching the field. When he stopped doing so, he was sent packing.

Belichick is beyond using gimmicks to send messages to his players. He's earned far more respect than that.

So if either of the veteran players is let go, it's not for anything other than football reasons.

Belichick, like all the other coaches in the league, would play an ax-murderer as long that man showed up, worked and contributed -- and stayed out of jail.

Last time I checked, Ochocinco and Haynesworth weren't one of those.

Real message would be: Can't play

The fact that they were penalized proves there was something illegal going on.  Do you deny this?  You can if you were in the film room and have new evidence to present to the league.  Please do so!
I agree that videotaping was illegal.

But you carried on and still failed to adress the specific question I asked.

Real message would be: Can't play

Putting an asterik next to the Pats is the dumbest arguement i've ever seen.

Real message would be: Can't play

DynastyofDeception...I mean the Patsies fan that is all over this thread whining and crying while calling other people stating fact children needs to grow up and man up a bit. It is not slander to state the Patriots, and specifically Bill Belichik were caught cheating. It happened. They were found to have cheated for 7 seasons. The seasons in which they enjoyed their most success. This is documented fact. It is the reality. No amount of whining and crying, sniveling and moaning will ever change it. They will be forever the team that cheated. Grow up. You aren't on the team. You aren't part of the team. You are just a child throwing a tantrum because people remember the truth. There has never been a Patriots dynasty. Only a period of cheating. Fact.

Show me where it says the Pats "cheated for 7 seasons.".  You fools have no clue as to what you are spouting off.

That season, the commish sent out a letter to all franchises warning them about illegally video taping.  Every team does it.  Pats (specifically Beli), thought he was sneaky enough and that his ex-portege wouldn't rat on him.  he was wrong and paid a severe price.

Get over it.

@JetSteve- Leave it to Prisco to bring a Jets fan and a Patriots fan to agreement on one topic, their disgust in agreeing with him!  By the way, scratch Jimmy Johnson off of your list as he admitted to stealing signals in the same way the Pats did during his time in Dallas, just saying.

Dynasty:  So saying things like the Patriots cheated and had some kind of unfair advantage that propelled them to victory and their wins meant nothing ... is a completely incorrect and uncalled for insult.

It's either true or false.  The fact that they were penalized proves there was something illegal going on.  Do you deny this?  You can if you were in the film room and have new evidence to present to the league.  Please do so!

If this were an NCAA situation, the Patriots would be "giving back wins" like Ohio State, which is the most stupid re-writing of history immaginable.  I'm not suggesting this by any means.

This is professional sports and there is too much on the line from an NFL integrity perspective to make a bigger example of the Patriots.  They couldn't have been penalized any further... just like baseball can't penalize the juicers or teams of juicers.  There's too much league integrity to lose.  What this means is that the Patriots are left forever with an unofficial asterisk on their record.  Accept it.  It's that simple.

The records remain the same, like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa.  But everyone knows better... the Patriots *won the Super Bowls they did in the early 2000s... they *earned them.

And, when you want to sling at Steelers fans, make sure you use, "but the Patriots *own you!".  You'll be more accurate and you'll earn respect from other fans in the league.

It *happened.

Real message would be: Can't play

I understand your point about New England not being he only team. The situation is that they got caught or made it obvious and made fans question their wins.
I think we all seem to be missing the point here.

NFL coaching staffs are loaded with life long football heads that understand each and every nuance of the game (and a hell of alot more than 99.9% of the people commenting here).

A member of the Patriots coaching staff can watch the Jets sideline, look at the signals and see what kind of defensive play they run. Pretty damn easy for someone with that kind of knowledge.

Videotape just makes it easier.

It's not the question if other teams did it too and NE is the one that got caught.

THEY EITHER ALL DO IT CAUSE IT'S USEFUL OR HARDLY ANYBODY DOES BECAUSE IT ISN'T!

And if it is useful, you'd better believe that EVERYBODY DOES IT AND DOES SO TO THIS DAY!

So saying things like the Patriots cheated and had some kind of unfair advantage that propelled them to victory and their wins meant nothing ... is a completely incorrect and uncalled for insult.

Anybody that says these things simply doesn't know what they're talking about.

REALLY?!?!?!?!.....It has nothing to do with the fact that ownership brought in a coach that honestly....sucks....He changed the defensive scheme,And wanted a guy that was brought on for one thing to "change" his game!.....The great coaches bring guys on for what they bring to the field,Not to say "I'm the boss you do what I say"....Haynesworth is wrong in the way he carried him self but......He owes NOTHING to the fans...I would hate the coach before the players....to compare him the way you are....you washington fans are little b!tches...And don't deserve a team....Just my oppinion

Here is what everybody outside of New England fails to consider or admit.

Stealing signals with videotape is illegal. There are other ways to steal signals without videotape. So either everybody does it cause it's useful or no one really does cause it isn't. THAT is a fact.

The only rule they broke is the fact that they used videotape. So in your words ...
"This is documented fact. It is the reality. No amount of whining and crying, sniveling and moaning will ever change it.
Is that too deep for you dude? Do you have the brain capacity to consider that? Oh wait ... you're a Chargers fan. Yeah, the Patriots kept your paper champion team out of the Super Bowl more than once. Your bitter rant now makes sense!

Again, if ANYBODY has a reasonable comment on what I said about videotape versus other methods, I would love to hear it.

Patriots Filming other teams

I understand your point about New England not being he only team. The situation is that they got caught or made it obvious and made fans question their wins. The same thing happened to the NCAA when USC was discovered for it's wrong doings. I am sure other college football teams where providing luxury for their players.

Real message would be: Can't play

WOW... What a way to start a Monday... Agreeing with Prisco... Boy it's going to be a long week...

A though folks... Would anyone be surprised if the GM was associated with the Colts just to stur up the pot... Just saying...

One last thing... Don't you think BB has enough control over the Patriots organization that he doesn't need to do this... I mean really... I would think that he made much more of a statement by cutting Ty Warren, a guy that they drafted and was coming off an injury, just after the training camps started.  Just goes to show... If you can help the team, you'll stay. If you can't, you go... Just that cut and dry...
