Brady makes Cowboys pay

FOXBORO -- They gave him a chance.

You never give Tom Brady another chance.

For nearly four quarters, the Dallas Cowboys seemed to have Brady befuddled. Their exotic defensive looks had him looking jumpy in the pocket and forced him into two interceptions.

It was their game.

But they gave him a chance, and Brady loves getting the chance.

Trailing by three, he started at his own 20 with 2:34 left and moved the Patriots to the game-winning score with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Hernandez with 22 seconds left for a 20-16 victory.

Moral of the story: You don't give Brady chances.

The Cowboys did. They got the ball back at their own 20 with 3:36 and ran it three times.

Brady made them pay for being so conservative -- just like so many others before them

Brady makes Cowboys pay

I'm thinking that Romo has been on one hell of a public opinion rollercoaster this year, that's for sure. BUT, the two games you are comparing are COMPLETELY different in nature.

When you are up 24 points in the second half, taking clock away from your opponent makes sense. With Ryan's "vaunted" defensive skills, a 27-3 lead in the second half should never fall upon the defense to secure...the game's done...so you take away the clock and you grind it out. That's what the defense would have wanted. Ask Kevin Gilbride what happens when you throw, throw, throw with a lead in the second half with a Buddy Ryan coached team. Fisticuffs...that's what. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this case so Garrett's somewhat fortunate he's the HEAD COACH and not the just the offensive coordinator...though I might've liked watching those two duke it out.

When you have a 4 pt lead with under 3 minutes to play, going conservative by going run, run, run into a defense that has been shutting your run down AND your #1 back is on the sidelines with an ankle sprain is JUST BEGGING to get stuffed and beaten by Tom Brady. Keep trying to score...cause if you do, at worst, the Patriots would come down and force overtime with a dramatic last-second touchdown. And don't forget that more time off the clock would've been eaten up by ANY scoring drive, including a field goal. It would've meant a first down or two...and that's what the Cowboys needed...not a conservative 3 and out.

The games were different, and a bit disgusting in their own right. Two winnable games just tossed away.

And yes, the Patriots defense played a role in keeping the Patriots in the game...but when it counted, with the game on the line, Tom Brady and the offense got it done. Better coaching and execution in the end allowed them to pull it out.

Brady makes Cowboys pay

I was BESIDE myself watching the Cowboys run three times and punt. When they got the ball, I said aloud to myself, "Just forget about having the lead, and try and go down the field and score." NOPE. Just like when the Jets blocked the punt to turn that game around, I could see it coming. I CALLED that blocked punt...and I'm some guy sitting on a couch watching his team play. The same couch-guy called the New England meltdown from the comfort of his soft easy chair. THAT'S what Garrett needs, I think, ,a nice comfy couch to sit and think clearly...so he can stop giving games away.

It's brutal...JAson Garrett played this game at a higher level than 99.9% of the human race YET he can't come up with anything more creative than run three and out against the Pats at home with a string of 19 straight home wins...or is it 30? Whatever. You have a playoff caliber team down in the final minutes, with a one possession lead, you DON'T go into a shell...you keep playing. IF YOUR TEAM SCORES, it's probably game over...and in this case, with Belicheck calling early timeouts (like other NFL coaches SHOULD DO when they zre trailing, but usually don't), a score would have eaten the clock and all timeouts to the point that it would have been a miracle comeback to forge even a tie.

The Chargers let the Patriots hang around, hang around, and then lost in playoff games recently. They did the same with the JEts. The Cowboys are playing from the same script, and it killed them.

As far as Tony Romo goes, the guy is still running for his life more times than not. The young offensive line has a lot of growing to do to improve that situation...and they'll be better in a year, maybe two, as they gain experience together. Right now, Romo is hurried a lot, and with the running game largely ineffective, he's gotta throw a lot. He's a quality QB and people bashing him should remember back to the previous QB's he replaced. Bledsoe couldn't avoid my grandmother's speed rush... Yes, Romo has had some miscues...but he's a competitor and belongs in the same discussion as Danny White. Tack on a Super Bowl win and he'll begin to be deserving of comparisons with Troy and Roger...though he'll need a couple of Rings to equal them.

The Cowboys CAN be a playoff team this year, but they have flaws, and a penchant for failing to put other teams away, so far. The schedule gets a bit kinder, with the Rams, Seahawks, Dolphins and Cardinals mixed in with Philly, Washington and Buffalo. They could win all of those games before the final 4 game stretch run. I don't think they will...and if they do manage to compete their way into the playoffs, I don't see a deep run THIS year with the problems they still must correct on BOTH sides of the ball.

You act as though its something new????  Up on Jets 24-10  go into a hole and Garrett makes STUPID calls.  Up 27-3 on Lions, Garrett and Romo team up to make some blunder calls.  Now again.  With a decent head coach, just decent, and a QB,  Dallas is sitting 5-0.  Like or not, Garrett sucks, Romo sucks, Anyone just watching the game would think Ryan is the head coach, thats all you see.  Wow has he been successfull.  I would suggest EVERY Dallas fan boycott and not go to the next home game,  FORCE Jones to make the moves he needs to make, and its not like he didnt have a chance, Never even entertained the thought of Bill Cowher,  you kidding me??....This team lacks heart, and losing 3 games in 5 weeks you had won, will take all the heart they have left.  I wouldnt be shocked that one more blunder, and this team doesnt win another one.  Maybe Jones will appoint his grandson the next head coach.  Who knows might be as smart as Garrett.

Very well put. It's not like NE sucks and we gave them the game. Definitely not pleased with calling 3 running plays then punting at the end. Never give Brady that last drive, he will/did make them pay. I blame that on Garrett 100%.

Brady makes Cowboys pay

Brady made 'em pay but Romo's performance (with a little help from bad play calling) kept the Pats w/in striking distance when they could have pulled away.  Romo needs a sports psychologist to help him control his emotions and see the game at a slower speed; especially after a big play. Did you see him after his big run?  His eyes were bugging out and if his arm wasn't hit, it was a sure interception. He can't handle the big moment and what you have to do as an athlete is handle it just like any other play.

Brady makes Cowboys pay

It was a good game and both teams defenses were terrific against two good offenses.  The people who are saying Dallas blew it, well I might remind you Dallas led the game for what, about five minutes by three points out of a sixty minute game.  Hard to blow something when you hardly saw yourself in front.

no argument that the defense is what gave brady a chance to win. but you can't take the credit away from brady on that last drive. he had a rough night, but he made some great reads and throws on that last drive.

Brady makes Cowboys pay

i dont think it was so much that the cowboys blew the game as much as it was the patriots making more plays in the end.  the media hates on the pats defense and every poster on here buys into it, but howd they play the last two weeks? ive been saying this for a long time that this defense is underrated, maybe now the media will hop all over it

Exactly, go for the jugular...inside the 5 toss to Bryant, either out of bounds or Bryant catches. TD wins this game not a shovel pass. Little disappointed in the calls inside the 10 today.

Brady makes Cowboys pay

Funny thing is Dallas - and Romo - were lambasted for continuing to throw against the Lions.  Then they tried running and they get lambasted again.

Brady didn't win against Dallas - the maligned Patriot defense did.  Yet the media will take anything to add another laurel on their private Brady shrines.
